  1. Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone has advice or maybe experience of this before.. I was in Australia in 2005/06 on a working holiday visa, seeing as I was driving under a provisional license at the time i decided to sit my driving test while in Australia, which I subsequently passed! Everything was good until the end of my trip, while on a road trip around Australia before I headed home I managed to pick up 2 speeding fines and some toll charges! (which I didn't know about these until the end of my trip when I got a call from the house where I used to live). Seeing as I was heading home in a couple of weeks anyway I decided to take my chances and not pay the fines. The problem is that now I'm looking to go back to Australia under a 176 visa and I'm worried that these unpaid fines/charges could come back to bite me when I get to Australia or worse still prevent me from being granted a visa. Does anyone know if this is a possibility or have experience of anything similar? Thanks in advance, Johnny.

    Unpaid Speeding Fines

My Dad got a speeding fine sent home after a trip to Oz in 2003. Rightly or wrongly, thinking he would never go back he didn't pay it. 8 years on we are emigrating and he will be visiting us, can anyone tell me what the repercussions of this unpaid fine might be? Will he have a problem getting a tourist visa or be pulled up on entering Oz? thanks for any info!
  3. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced similar or can shed any light on this for me. I'm pretty peeved right now. I rented a red spot car from brisbane airport on my reccie for 7 days. On collection I was told all cars were fitted with an automatic e tag for deduction tolls, I could pay a daily toll fee for a 7 days of hire (I think it was about $60). OR I could not pay the fee, the e tag would still beep and deduct and I would incurr a charge of $15 for each toll use from redspot. As I knew I'd only be using the gateway highway twice, to and from the airport, I opted for the $15 option as at $30 it was cheaper. Today I've received 2 letters from redspot, one for each toll use. They received toll warning letters from the government and are deducting a total of $44 from my credit card for administration of sending me the letter and have passed my details onto the authorities. So presumably in a few days time I'll get some toll fines from QLD government too. I'm really not happy, I've sent them an email to try and clarify. I can only assume their e-tag wasn't working or else I was told a load of rubbish by their airport collection desk rep. Help? :frown:
  4. About 13 years ago I got stopped by the Police and given a speeding ticket. The copper said as I am holiday and leaving the country in a few weeks not to bother paying it. Can't remember if he said, 'that's if your not going to return". Anyway I didn't pay the fine lol! Now I'm worried it will affect my visa application and our holiday to Oz after Christmas, does anyone know? Also I got hitched in the mean time and took his surname.:biglaugh: Will they not let me in or arrest me on landing ? :policeman:

    Unpaid speeding & parking fines

Hi, we will be applying for student visas in Oz in 2010. Now we have started reading all the info on the websites etc my other half has confessed to the fact that he has an unpaid speeding ticket and an unpaid parking fine from a previous trip to Oz in 2007! Obviously he is happy to pay the outstanding fines and I have the original documents he was served. Before he contacts the relevant organisations to confess and pay the fines I just wondered whether anyone had any idea whether this would adversely affect us when making our visa applications? Many thanks for any help you can give.
  6. I used a connection company when i moved into my unit a couple of months ago and one of the things they were mean't to arrange was my wireless broadband. I was supposed to have the wireless modem delivered to me which i had to be home to sign for, well i sat in and waited that day and it never arrived. Stupidly i didn't bother chasing it up and just arranged my internet with another company, then one month later i get a bill of $35 for one months internet, i phone and explain that i never signed up for the deal in the end but they said the contract was activated and i was locked in for 24 months even though i'd never signed anything. Stupidly again i then hung the phone up. Now another month later i get another bill for $100.74 which is two months plus late fee charges, plus aload of if you don't pay in 7 days the account will be suspended and another $35 will be added to the bill..... the letter was dated 21 december.. opps (need to check my mail more regually). So what are my options? the connection company signed me up for it but i nver personally signed anything apart from a verbal contract with the connection company over the phone, will phone them monday and see if i can beat any records for being put on hold. Should i just pay the bill, can i be held to a contract that was setup for me by someone else? Thanks for any advice.
