  1. Hi Quoll, what wouldn't be covered on Medicare under the reciprocal agreement with the UK?
  2. Hi, my mother-in-law has been waiting to see what happens with the new temporary parent visa but now she's thinking she might be better to just take the chance and come out on the visitor visa, apply for the aged parent visa 804 when she gets here and go on the bridging visa. I have a few questions I'm hoping for some help on :-) If she was to go for this option does anyone know when would she be asked to undertake a medical? Also what sorts of health issues would give her a problem in passing the medical? She has arthritis, COPD, recent hip replacement and an eye condition. What are the main issues with going down this route?
  3. Thanks, that's really helpful. Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app

  5. I know, it's a massive move for her and the uncertainty of the visa would be hard but she's feeling so lonely and unhappy right now that I think it's worth the upheaval. If she leaves it any longer she just won't be fit enough but at least once she gets here we can take care of her.
  6. Hi all, my mother-in-law has been looking at joining us in Oz and at her age (79), it looks like coming over on a visitor visa and applying for an 804 whilst here might be the best option. Can anyone tell me if she will need to do a medical before being granted a bridging visa?
  7. Yeah, I know the reciprocal isn't full cover, we were on a 457 for a few years. Is there not a $40k cost with the CPV though on top of the visa charge and won't she need a medical with that one too? When we got our medicals for our PR they weren't done until just before the visa was granted so surely with the 804 they won't do one prior to issuing the bridging visa? Also she's 79!
  8. I haven't heard of anyone on the bridging visa having an issue getting medical treatment Quoll, do you know someone this has happened to? Also it is her intention to get private health insurance so surely that would cover it? The failing of the medical is a worry though tbh. Do you know if she would be able to apply for the new 5 year temporary visa if she failed the medical for the 804?
  9. Hi Hayley, we have just started looking at this for my mother-in-law and have been told if she comes over on a holiday visa and applies for the 804 whilst she's here (she's of pension age) then she will be put on a bridging visa which will allow her to stay here until it's granted. (Which could take 30 years!) She wouldn't be able to leave the country whilst on the bridging visa but for her that won't create a problem and she will live with us so doesn't have to worry about the house purchase. (Just noticed you posted about this exact option above! :-))

  11. Thanks blossom79, ended up getting an agent to assist as it was too complicated for the tight timescale we had, got it lodged so all good
  12. Thanks I'll try that with the passport pics and wait to see what else they ask for, I'm just hoping it's straight forward, to say I'm stressed is the understatement of the year:arghh:
  13. Thanks, I've read all the information on the website and in this booklet but what concerned me is when I looked at some of the old paper application forms they asked for details of all Medicare claims since arriving in Australia and someone has told me they need dates of every country you have visited in the past 10 years, is this correct? Does anyone know if I need to submit passport pictures with it?
  14. Is there a paper application form for this visa? I am going to be submitting my application on-line this week but I can't access the portal until the nomination is lodged Mon/Tues. I want to ensure I have answers to all the questions as I am going to be against the clock for getting the application in by the 28th. Also does anyone have any tips of things that I may come up against that I won't have thought of? Any help greatly appreciated
  15. Thanks, this is ideal :-)
  16. We are currently in Perth and need to get someone to certify our birth certificates and passport - 'Certified copies' have been authorised (or stamped) as being true copies of originals, by a person or agency recognised by the law of the country in which you live. Is this those people listed on the "Oaths, Affidavits and Statutory Declarations Act 2005"? - Doctors, Dentists, Teachers etc. Although I know it does include Migration Agents. Thanks
  17. Hi Alan, can you advise me if I can lodge my RSMS 187 application before my company have lodged the nomination? They have agreed to sponsor me through the agreement stream and are currrently getting everything in place for the application. Someone at work's agent has told them you can lodge the application before the employer lodges but I have just seen this on the DIAC website - Please ensure your visa application is lodged after your employer nomination has been lodged and you select the correct stream. Failure to do so may result in an invalid visa application.
  18. We are in Perth and my daughter is doing a Law degree at Edinburgh uni. She had already started when we left for Oz therefore it was best she stayed. She is likely to study the additional 2 years needed before she is able to practice when she comes here as there is no point her doing it in the UK as she would need further study here anyway. She has looked at the universities and her first choice would be UWA, obviously if we were in a different state it would be a different choice but she wants to be close to us. What you also need to keep in mind is the additional pressure she will be under if she chooses the UK without you close at hand. She obviously wants to go to the best uni possible but if the stress of separation is too much it could present a problem. My daughters (both at Edinburgh uni) have coped amazingly given the distance but it is really tough for them and they both had a year to settle in there before we moved to Oz. The Law course is obviously not an easy one, although different uni's don't seem quite as tough as Edinburgh, which is great but very "old school". Not an easy decision to make and it very much depends on your daughter's individual needs and personality good luck :-) If she wants someone to "chat" to in the UK PM me your email address and my daughter would be happy to help. She is in her third year and a Resident Assistant looking after the new students who live in the halls. She is also heavily involved in the "law pals" and mentoring so it might be helpful x I should have added that I know the legal firms in Perth class UWA as the best WA university for a law degree when recruiting graduates. Obviously there are other criteria they take into consideration but this is worth keeping in mind.
  19. I don't think you can really compare Perth to London or Sydney, it is completely different from both of them. I love visiting both these cities, however I would not choose to live there, too big and busy for me. It is all about personal preference. We moved from Scotland to Melbourne and pretty quickly realised that it wasn't for us and after 8 months made the decision to uproot again and move to Perth. A bit stressful and costly, however this was the best decision we ever made as Perth is obviously right for us. The difficult thing is that no-one can say what is right for you, only you can. In fact most people in Melbourne thought we were crazy to move from there to here!! What I would say is that our life in Perth is completely different to the life we had in Melbourne and therefore I believe looking at another city to try before heading back to the UK is worth it. We live in the northern suburbs and it is stunning, peaceful and slow paced, (which is great for us) train journey to city is 30 minutes and the trains are frequent and clean. IT is one of the areas that there are still plenty job opportunities too. We settled and made friends quickly, as did our son, it's a happy, friendly place :-) Good luck with your decision
  20. Getting 457 sponsorship as a Recruitment Consultant is quite easy as long as you have enough experience, the vast majority of the agencies will consider it and all the bigger ones definitely do.
  21. Thanks Tink, the problem with the accommodation is that it needs to not take us too far off our route. We may have an option but it means driving from Ceduna to Norseman in one day which is further than we wanted to to (but at least its an option:biggrin:)
  22. If we fly the dog over she would need to go into kennels and we are trying to avoid that as she has only just gotten over her month in quarantine. Also by the time we cover the cost of that we would be cheaper shipping the car and all flying - which is an option. With that in mind does anyone know anyone who would transport the car at a reasonable cost, we have been quoted $1500!
