  1. Thanks Jo. A couple of Christmasses ago, my Aussie daughter sent us some JVC noise cancelling headphones and I was even pleased with those. I tend to make the journey more than my husband, but this next trip is to celebrate our 40th anniversary (so he has to come!!) and we will be doing a lot of flying. It's a 3 month trip, so we will both need headphones. I am tempted by the Bose, but they would become 'my' pair and he could have the old JVC ones.........he wouldn't have to know the price!!!!! Thanks again for everyones replies and suggestions. Cheers Pam
  2. Thanks RaT! I don't do the flight that often, but this next will be the second time in 4 months! My daughter and grandchildren are in Sydney, so the trip has to be done fairly often!! I appreciate your comments, many thanks. Cheers Pam
  3. Thanks gbuss, I'll have a look at that site. Probably the cheapest option? Cheers Pam
  4. Thanks Tink......if he's not away at the moment, can you tell me the model number or all they all much of a muchness?.......thanks in advance
  5. Anyone have any suggestions for noise reducing headphones please? Just would like anything to help me cope with the Heathrow to Singapore leg of the flight to Sydney. A flat bed in either business or First would help, but I think the headphones will be a cheaper option!!!!
  6. Fantastic Phoebe! For once, I can say I know exactly how you feel! Sarah did this to me with Harry when he too was only about 18 months old!! I think I can see your beaming smile from here, matched by ours!! In case I forget on the day, Happy Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!! Pam xx
  7. I'm pretty sure they don't deal with druggies, drunks, dead bodies and drink drivers!! My daughter does and she has to work all the shifts that are required of a police officer, early earlies, late lates, nights. Some (most?) MPs don't even turn up for all the sittings! The only thing the police and MPs have in common is the finger pointing at them saying it's all their fault, whatever it is, they can't do right for doing wrong.................. I do hope you had tongue in cheek Northshorepom.
  8. As you say, both good and bad news.......... Obviously we know nothing of anyones finances, but given your scenario and knowing how much you might be spending on getting a visa, I would find the money and get the operation done ASAP. Then you are fit and well to go see your grandchildren and family, and enjoy it! All to easy to say this, I know, but today is the day that counts! Phoebe, good luck in your decision making!! Hope that you feel somewhat 'better' now that you know the cause of the problems? Anyway my best wishes and thoughts are with you and many thanks for letting us know! We feel like family on here.............. Cheers Pam x
  9. NAB have done everything we needed for us. We live in UK but visit our daughter often and just wanted a 'local' bank. Applied online, just had to send an extra email to say why we wanted the account without actually migrating. Happily recommend them. Cheers Pam

    Do you?

Oh yes! Go for it, it really does last as long as they say and the shine is fabulous. I always have manicure and pedicure with shellac before a holiday and it always lasts the 2 or 3 weeks I'm away. (Has grown out a bit at the base, but as it isn't chipped, you can get away with it!!) Still can't get used to the instantly dry bit though. I still walk out from the nail place with my fingers spread so nothing smears, but totally unnecessary. Force of habit????
  11. Phoebe, Exactly as Kath said, Happy New Year and happy new health to you! Will be looking out for the good news to be posted on Monday (hows that for positive thinking?) Cheers Pam
  12. Happy New Year to all everywhere!! Still can't get used to the fact that it's already next year in some places, but not here:confused: My new years resolution is to not moan about the weather, as there is nothing I can do about it. So, last one of 2012.........Please please stop blo**y raining..........ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers all, Pam
  13. Sorry PontePom. Yes the UK! It's raining again now, but sideways due to the winds, so I imagine the full year record will be well set!!!
  14. It was on the news tonight that 2012 is now officially the wettest year on record EVER! Seems so bizarre that early this year we were being threatened with hosepipe bans etc At least it explains why some of us (well me!) have been such miserable b88gers this year! It's bad enough being grey haired, I can do something about that, but grey weather that you can't change.......aaarrgghh!!
  15. Happy Christmas Kate and family! And, like Pabs said, to Kate and to all the mods for all the work you do for us all year...........Thank you all! Cheers Pam Completely forgot that you guys get to Christmas before us in the wetlands!!!!!!
  16. Just seen the forecast for the next week and it gives no respite from the rain, so probably more flooding to be expected. So awful, can't imagine just how bad it must be to actually live in these places. Hope the British spirit comes into force after it stops and the big clean up begins..........
  17. A while ago now, but as far as I remember, it was just on the NAB site and I had to 'back up' the application with comments about going for lots of holidays, but not having any visa other than an evisitor. Sorry can't be more specific, sure someone will be along soon with more help for you.
  18. Thanks for keeping us updated Phoebe! So glad for your hubbies results. We'll all celebrate when yours come through good too! (That doesn't sound like good English, sorry!) Two appointments will be finished with by Christmas, so have a brilliant time, like you say, everything is going in the right direction! :xmas24::biggrin::xmas15: Not as clever as you with the smilies, but you get the gist!!!!!! Cheers Pam x
  19. Enjoy!! Jetlag doesn't apply on the way out there......ha ha:wink: Sure does when you come back though, especially with gale force winds blowing at 4.30am!!:arghh: Have a brilliant time Cheers Pam
  20. Well, my three weeks with grandson and new granddaughter are nearly finished, all too soon! I have one full day left and am being taken to CafeSydney for lunch by my daughter and to the Casino in the evening by my son in law....brave man! I have checked in for my flights back on Thursday but already cannot wait until March when I come back with John. Some serious work to be done on him in the meantime lol!! Many thanks to Marian and John and Eirian for their hospitality, hope you enjoyed 'Coldplay' Marian! Will see you again soon Sydney, maybe next time to North Curl Curl, I fell in love with the place! Anyone want to swap for a while?... To all here already....cheers you lucky people! To the rest of us with feet on or near the ladder, keep the faith, all will be right in the end........ Cheers Pam
  21. I am actually here in Sydney at the moment on a visit and have to agree that there has to be (and generally is) a bit of give and take from agents. If ever I get to the position of applying, then I shall certainly be asking Alan Collett for a quote. Reason being that my son in law googled for an answer to a tax question and Alans company came up. SIL called up and was given a good 20 minutes of advice for nothing. He now has every intention of using Alan as he was so helpful!
  22. I so agree that it's great to have something to look forward to when you are leaving! John and I are coming back in March for 3 months and it's making the thought of my leaving here in less than two weeks bearable. I think I might actually be able to do what has been suggested here and apply for a 103 and just stretch the timings wherever possible. As has been said, then if circumstances change, at least part of the waiting has been done. My change of circumstances would be my other daughter and her family emigrating too, not on the cards at the moment. How did the house swap go this time? I might well follow that path for next year and take your previous suggestion to offer one less bedroom and use that to store "stuff" Good luck in whichever path you choose.
  23. Oh Phoebe! I can't help I'm afraid with whether this will stop you continuing your dream, but just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear of yet another health scare for you. The good old NHS does seem to pull its finger in these situations, so hopefully you'll (other half ) get a good result and pretty quick. I'm sure someone will come along with some help soon, just wanted to say 'thinking of you' Cheers Pam
  24. It's no easier second time round is it? It will get easier the closer to Perth you get!!! Glad you had such a brilliant trip and Thank you for keeping us up to date with it all. Have a great journey home xx
  25. NAB were quick with me too, but quick to ask why I wanted the account:laugh: They did the deal really quickly after that, impressive I thought! Now you need the rate to rise again to make it worth moving money in................
