  1. Hi Val How scary that all your money went'missing'! Glad it was sorted and you are back on track. Happy birthday for Tuesday (might not remember then!) and I hope the champers is in the fridge ready for whatever time of day you hear that email click "VISA"......... Cheers Pam
  2. Thanks for this. I have pmd you, but forgot to ask can you give me your blog, facebook links please. I am such a saddo, I watch anything and everything to do with Oz!! Even repeats of Border Security!!!! So new photos would be good....... Cheers Pam
  3. Cheers Jane and Clive!! How is life for you now? I see your 'line' reads Living the dream. How is that dream going? Do you often have your grandchildren to care for? Spanish inquisition ended........sorry!! Enjoy your wine...... Cheers Pam
  4. Not absolutely sure, but I think you can't have a UK ISA if you live elsewhere. Only think this, as my daughter got charged huge amount by Aussie taxman when she brought the ISA money over. As I said, not absolutely sure, but worth checking before you commit to anything. Pam
  5. Thanks to both of you! Nice to think I can have all four together. Will give it a try and let you know when I'm back in December. Cheers
  6. Hi bel123321 and spenner You can probably let me know the answer to this then.......... I have two grandchildren here in UK and about to have the second Aussie delivery in October. I am going over to see the two Aussie grandchildren (and their parents!!) and want to know if I take photos here of the UK ones, can I photoshop in the Aussie grandkids???? Not sure if this makes sense or is possible? Cheers for any replies, Pam
  7. I have no excuse or reason, but I'm joining you with the glass of wine! Cheers ladies!! Actually the fact we have had the grandchildren from 7.30 this morning could have something to do with it???????????
  8. Hi MKF, That sounds so awful! Linday mentioned friends appealing against the decision and I just wondered how long that appeal might take. If you were to appeal and it take 6 months or so (I really have no idea) that would then take you to May 2013????? I hope I haven't missed something, but maybe worth a try?????????? Cheers Pam
  9. Sorry to hear about your dog, it's sooo bad when you lose them. We got Stella after we swore we would never have another dog, but daughter persuaded us otherwise. "I'll pay the insurance, I'll look after him/her when you go away etc etc" So we gave in and went to the dogs home and got 'Annie' but daughter said there was no way she would walk her calling Annie, so the name was changed to the beer.......Stella Artois! Needless to say, we pay for insurance, do the walking, pay for kennelling etc and this is 11 years later. Our Stella is a cross between a German Shepherd and a collie, wants to round everyone and everything up and doesn't take no for an answer!! She is gorgeous and we will miss her like mad when her time comes, but definitely no more
  10. Impressive!! Not happened here at home on the mac, but when I am in Aus soon it will be on the ipad, so welcome all tips!!
  11. Have to laugh at this as an option for me replying to a post. By the time I have thought how to word a reply and then actually typed it, then gone back and corrected the spelling, theres been loads more replies and my quick reply seems irrelevant or someone else has said what I was trying to say. Aaarrgghh! :arghh:
  12. Hi Marian That would be great, thank you. There seems to be so much going on at the moment, that I think I'll wake up one morning and find I'm flying that night!! I do look most days at the weather comparison and your spring is warmer than any of our summer, in fact your winter was warmer........aaarrgghh Nearer the time Ill pm you Cheers Pam
  13. Hi Fisher1, Many thanks for your replies! I have also found your blog, had a laugh reading that, so many similarities to ourselves! Did you manage to get the premium seats on your flights? We had those last year for 3 of the 4 legs and have to say we thought them absolutely worth every penny. In fact, when I go in October on my own, I have booked the premium seats. Just hope I have a 'nice' someone sitting next to me, or preferably no-one!! As I am going alone this time, I am going straight through, but on the return leg there is a break of 11 hours. I have 'wimped out' and booked a room at the Crowne Plaza (because I'm worth it?) I did 'try out' one swap site, LoveHomeSwap, and have had one offer to swap, but from Batemans Bay, a bit far south for us. Two others that I sent requests to haven't replied yet. Did you always get replies from the requests you sent? Hope Wales has dried up a bit for you! Thanks again for help with swapping. Pam
  14. Very handy for presents also - I buy family presents this end and our daughter puts the money in dollars in our Aus account. Makes a great change from I buy family presents here and she promises to give me the money when she sees me! Ha ha! I thought I was the only one that happened to! Separate question for you........which home swap sites have you used? Or have I misunderstood one of your previous replies? Anyone out there want a house near Bath for a couple of months, swapping for one in or around Sydney?
  15. Just a quick point, some of the 380s have all business seats upstairs! If you do get economy upper deck, it is quieter, simply for the fact there are fewer people. Last time we paid extra £30 to get row 71 upstairs. It is the front row of the economy seats, by the exits and you get loads of room. The only people passing you are the stewardesses going to and from business class that is just in front of the curtain.
  16. We opened a NAB account from here (UK) and there were no problems. A couple of emails about why we wanted to open the account, but this was just because we aren't actually emigrating. When we arrived the first time after opening the account we had to go into Sydney (nearest main branch) to activate everything. All very easy, the cards arrived at our daughters house within the week.
  17. Hey Marian! Maybe it's like our winter heating bonus over here?!? Seriously, I have no idea, just wanted to say Hi! Hope you're still enjoying your lovely life out there....... Cheers Pam
  18. Lovely post MsJulz!! My daughter is in Russell Lea at the moment, but looking for a place to buy either in North Curl Curl or Collaroy. She was outbid recently on the 'perfect' house and is finding it difficult to find anything to match it now. She has a 2year old boy and baby number 2 is due in October, so your findings with the nursery places are of interest to me! I know, she did put her name down on every list where she is now, until she found a lovely lady for childcare. Occasionally her name gets to the top of the lists and she is offered places, but they don't seem to mind if you say no. I guess there is always someone to take up the places? Anyway, good luck with your new life there, maybe pass each other in November when I visit, ha ha ha. Cheers Pam
  19. Hi Val Obviously Gill knows about the Post Office card and its merits. Don't know if it's worth you looking into the Halifax Clarity card. It has been great for me every time I have travelled as the exchange rate is good and the charges are minimal, certainly the best on the market. Sorry I'm not very good with the actual wording, but its something to do with the 'loading' or lack of it that makes it so good. I know the feeling about checking the computer every morning, although I check to see whose journey is progressing!! Cheers Pam
  20. Hi Gill What a lovely post! I remember reading about your granddaughters problems and her bravery spurred me on when my granddaughter was having mri and ct scans. The fact the time has flown just shows how full your lives are out there!! Congratulations on your 'anniversary' and many thanks for posting!! Cheers Pam
  21. To John and Eirian, Good luck next week. How exciting!! Just wanted to say you'll love meeting Marian and Ian, they gave us so many 'insights' as to the whys wheres and whens. (Even though we aren't putting them to use .....YET!!!!) When you return and get to meet Mike and Sue, again lovely people and so helpful. Have a great few weeks, I'm sure you'll get everything done! If you are settled in November, I will be there for new granddaughters arrival and would love to meet for coffee if you are anywhere near? Speak nearer the time. Cheers Pam
  22. Hi Kath A few years ago I would have been able to appreciate what you are going through........sadly I don't have my Ma with me now. Can I now suggest that in 'not so many years time', you will be the 90 year old and would you want to stop your daughter doing whatever she wanted? What happens now when you visit Oz? I can remember my Mum on the top of the Heathrow airport car park (this was in the 60s before terrorism!!) waving goodbye to my brother as he left for Canada saying "I'll never forgive him!" She and my Dad went every year until my Dad passed on!.............and they both agreed what a good job he had done by moving! Would she go with you? Sorry I am rambling (can I blame the Queens jubilee celebrations????) I do feel as torn as you but for different reasons......... I have two daughters, one in Sydney, one about 100 yards away from me, both have children and my Aussie daughter is to produce another grandchild in October. Who gets me to look after their children? I feel bad leaving daughter here with her two to go to Oz to see new grandchild in November???? We are Mums, daughters, we also have to live our own lives. If you want go now GO! I am sure I will feel bad in the morning for writing this, but it is what I feel............... With you in many ways , Pam
  23. Hi Angie Unless I am being really stupid, I can't see any link................. Pam
  24. Hello Marian, I think this is the one:- [h=3]Australian migration, contributory parent visa, information and ...[/h] www.chireckles.com/cpv/tracker.php Hope all is going well. Pam
  25. Hi Val Congratulations to you too! I have done the trip before on my own, year before last for my 60th birthday and birth of my grandson. The scariest bit was buying the ticket, excitement took over after that!!! Our trip last year (both of us) I tried to convince my other half to go for the cpv, but no way, even though we met Mike and Sue and others in Dee Why and they were all so positive and happy with their decisions. Anyway, I'm doing the trip this time and again we are both going in March for our 40th wedding anniversary and obviously to see grandbaby. I just love this site and feel part of the parents group here, even though we haven't applied for the visa. I haven't given up yet though!!! I'll follow you all to the end of your journeys............ Pam
