  4. Hi we did, our daughter was home schooled for a year before going to oz, so missed year 7, she returned to school in the uk to start 9, so she had missed a lot... she soon caught up though with all she missed, The school were great in helping her to settle back in, always there to help her through.. she has achieved several awards now in different subjects and is now above average in some subjects for her year group!
  5. Thinking of you, may he rest in peace over rainbow bridge x

    Leaving Home

lived in what use to be know as a small village in Southbourne Bournemouth, known as Tuckton most of my life, up to the age of 29, then up to Southbourne, now back across the river the other side of Tuckton in Christchurch :cute:
  10. Mine was more a case of missing loved ones that had passed away, Being able to take the dogs to the river where i spent most of my childhood with my parents and sister, on anniversaries going to the crem to the garden etc and just the feeling of still being close to them.
  11. We knew within the three month period that oz was not for us, lots of reasons and it wasn't that we hated it there either, we really loved it there, but it hit home that we loved/liked it enough only for a holiday! The kids were very unhappy and in such a short space of time they changed so much and not for the better! No regrets at all in returning so soon.

    Do you waste food?

Not too bad in this house, Bread use to be the worst for waste, pay a little more on decent bread and it does last longer. certain left over dinner goes to the dogs etc, veggies don't stand a chance to go off as what isn't always eaten by us, goes to the guinea pigs or the parrots!! Also the compost bin may get some if it is lucky!!
  13. Depends on the school and which area you are returning to, You will probably have a chat with the head of the school which you can air your concerns, most have a learning department within the school to help any child who may have difficulties, our school has a really good base to help children with Dyslexia etc
  14. All bird song is lovely depending on the time of day, we have a sulpher crested too and a lesser sulpher who are quiet in the day but as dusk draws in they go off on one, just as well we live around nice neighbours lol...
  15. For me its the wildlife, being woken up by the lories every morning and the toos, Saying that though in the last year we have become members of parrot rescue, so we now have 5 avaries full of ill treated birds, including two too's also a Galah and many other parrots, so the sound of birds is never far away!!
  16. they don't like to give a calming drug for dogs to travel, as the hold they are in is warmer anyway so encourages sleep.. our dogs were fine on both trips, came home to us looking like show dogs with a gorgeous glossy coat, full bill of health.
  17. If your mind is set on something, i really don't think how many negatives you read, you will put them to the back of your mind...If like many you will read them and say to yourself, " well that happened to them, doesn't mean it will to us " etc or just cause its too hot for them it won't be for us lol

    Successes

Not sure of the answer to be honest, however in the short time we were in oz we became friends with a few of the neighbours lol, basically down to having mad kids, enjoying the bbq feasts and being able to keep up with them drinking all seemed to help..we are still in touch with them now :cute:

    Ping Pong

Hubby still says he has an itch that still needs scratching lol, ( he would be your classic ping ponger) :biglaugh: but can honestly say we wouldn't uproot the kids again,

  22. i really can't understand why so many people have been jumped on for wanting to move back to the uk, i look back to two years ago when i posted that we were returning after only a very short time in oz, and got nothing but lovely posts from members, can not think of any nasty ones at all, must have been a decent year for lovely forum members  just wish others were treated the same way!
