  1. Not pronouncing your "r's" in words properly for a start. I have tried to knock the r out of my words, but I just sound stupid.
  2. I am from Scotland but have lived in SE England for 26 years now and I still have english people telling me they can't understand what I am saying, even though I no longer talk in my native tongue. I have never tried to keep my accent & I suppose I could have tried harder to adopt an english drawl but I always thought I sounded stupid. I cant see me talking any differently when we move to Oz but I know my hubby will. He too is one of those mimics, I call him the chameleon as he takes on the accent of whoever he is with lol
  3. How can your fiancé be classed as a dependent if he works himself?
  4. Finally got the form finished late last night after several hours of going through 2 passports and old dive logs (why cant Egyptian immigration use same numbers as us, couldn't make head nor tail of their dates). Was feeling somewhat satisfied till hubby burst my bubble - "with all these trips we look like a couple of drug smugglers". Hope the CO doesn't think so!!
  5. Everyone over 16 as you have to fill in your individual education & employment history. I think you are mad doing it before being asked lol
  6. Haha you're right I know, it isn't an exam but at times it sure feels like it. Have read through it all now & have completed it all apart from hols and education. I am so glad that I am a closet hoarder and keep stupid things like old passports. Oh well back to google for school addresses lol
  7. Its at times like this that I wish my parents had stayed married to each other, I was an only child and had no children of my own and only ever had 1 job my entire life and never went on holiday, then this whole form would be a piece of cake
  8. GGS, now you have me worried, haven't seen anywhere that I have to include supporting docs????
  9. Hubby and I have been instructed to fill in Form 80; an 18 page document on your life from day dot. :arghh: Spent 2hrs on it tonight & got pages 1 to 5 almost finished. To be honest I am struggling with how much info to give them. For example, list every country you've visited in the last 10 years, reason for visit & dates to and from. So if I go on hol to the same 2 destinations every year, do I have to list each visit individually for the last 10 years??? With the employment, I somehow managed to remember all my jobs and found the addresses but the dates to and from are a bit iffy to say the least. Haven't looked at the rest yet cos I am extremely traumatised and don't want to put myself off from having another bash tomorrow lol How have others got through this and can you give us any advice please......
  10. Hi all, Hubby (Steve, 49) and I (Jackie, 46) are waiting on our business visa 188 and then we are heading to sunny Perth. Had intended to leave as soon as the visa was granted but forgot about the dog & now can't get away until mid Aug lol. Not yet sure if we will buy a business or start from scratch, just desperate for our mid life crisis adventure to begin!!
  11. Which visa are you waiting on & what is the average wait time for it? We submitted our 188 visa in Oct 14 & the first thing we both do on waking up is check the email. Don't know why though cos we've been told our wait time is approx. 9mths so looking at July at least. This emigration lark is not for the faint hearted lol
  12. , Angelou, I feel your frustration lol We submitted our 188 visa appl in Oct 14 and were asked within 2-3 days to submit more info along with meds & PC's, which we did by 14/11/14. Since then absolutely nothing!! Initially we thought we were gonna have our visa quite quickly & wanted to get out in June, but our new provisional date is Aug because we are having to wait the mandatory 7mths for the dog (after rabies jab). But with the new timescale of 9 months we could be looking at July before a grant & so are in complete limbo & really unsure of what to do & when lol. Keep me posted if you hear anything & I will do the same. Good Luck
  13. what about the poor buggers that will move into your current address & suddenly find themselves uncreditworthy????
  14. being stuck in limbo while waiting for a COs ' decision!
  15. sorry I cant help with your questions but just wanted to add that I am bringing my dog with us in Aug. He is a 6yr old Yorkie and is treated like a baby in our house (only daughter has fled the nest) Have read lots of horror stories too & I am worried sick about how he will cope, BUT, its only for 10 days. To be honest I don't let myself think about what he will go through as I know I have to have him with me and this is the only way!
  16. We were in same boat as you, OH requested a police check feb last year before we instructed agent. Came back clear so we went ahead with application & then got another one done end of Oct when instructed to by Immi.
  17. Those prices are cheaper than London, I am not so worried now. We are off to Perth for our reccie tomorrow & think I may be taking too much spending money lol
  18. Many thanks for that, would only be subject to WET (which I think is funny) which would put about £11 on each bottle. We buy wholesale at a really good rate and this extra would still be cheaper than shop prices.
  19. Would like to send a case of champagne to our friends in Perth. Does anyone know if this would be subject to Import Tax on arrival and if so how much? Many Thanks, Jackie
  20. I used Moneycorp to transfer our initial funds, no fees because I'm a member of this and Perthpoms.
  21. we've not long opened an account with Commonwealth Bank, did it all online. Just have to go in to nominated branch, when we get to Oz, with our passport & welcome letters and we'll get our debit cards. Have transferred a small amount (just to check that it deposited) & so far it all looks ok (fingers crossed)!!
  22. If you have been running a successful business for years, have you considered the business visa? We are going through this at the moment & the amount of financial information we have to provide is horrendous but if its the only way....
  23. Got to correct you on that because I spoke to a man who knows a man who knows a man that's seen Nessie!
  24. Hi Rachel, I was very moved by your post and have great admiration for how you are attempting to deal with this. I don't want to put a spanner in the works but one thought that jumped out at me was this, your husband would not let your son leave Aus initially even though he knew you could not stay - what if your son decides after a period of time that he has made a mistake & wants to come back to mum in the UK, will he be allowed? I wish both you and your son all the very best xxx
  25. Pumpkin that is the visa that we are going for and yes you are right, it is only a temp visa for 4 years with set criteria having to be met before PR will be considered. Nothing in life is guaranteed I know, but if you can start up & maintain a successful business in the UK for x years then you should have enough confidence in yourself to do it again elsewhere imo. Unless of course it was too stressful or not successful enough that you want to do it again lol.
