  1. There is no definitive answer that can swing this for you mate. For me, I do have a better life now. But, yeah, I do miss my family and friends, every day, after nearly 6 years here. That's never going to go away. We moved here because most of wife's family were here. But mine are in the UK. So, we have a family scene here but not my family. But, for me and her as a couple, living here is well better. Who knows, you might like it, you might hate it. It's a trade off you have to take a chance on if you want to go for it. Good luck.
  2. Thing is, if you walk in the chippy here, the bloke buying probably earns 70k+ a year, the bloke serving probably earns 15-20 bucks an hour. If you walk in the chippy in the UK, the bloke buying probably earns 20k+ a year, the bloke serving probably earns 5 quid an hour. Let’s face facts, the chips are never going to cost the same are they? If you moved to Mars and everyone got paid 40 million zogs a year (including fried potato technicians), guess what, a bag of chips wouldn’t be 2 quid there either. And PomsOnMars would be full of people moaning about Martian rip-offs.
  3. Expensive stuff; Tyres and car maintenance. And bear in mind if you buy a great big car, the costs may rise more than exponentially. Don’t necessarily find the cost of the cars too expensive, 2nd hand one yeah, but you’ll get most of it back when you sell it anyway. Dentist. Go for check-ups but have not had some work done due to costs. Fines. Speeding etc. cost a fortune. Stuff in the petrol station. Don’t buy anything from them other than petrol. Workmen. Costs a fortune to get anyone to do anything and they’re usually incompetent. That’s if they can be arsed in the first place. Eating out food & drink is overpriced in some places, not all though. Can’t say much else bothers me.
  4. Cinema Grand Cards pay for themselves then the tickets are $12. Think I used to pay 6 or 7 quid in the Uk so its hardly a life-changer.
  5. Whatever they're going for, whether its benefit handouts or fish and chips, that's too many people by far.
  6. Yeah, they're going for the weather.

    Dog ate babies head

People should get rid of big dogs when they have babies. End of. And all dogs should be in the back yard, full stop.
  8. Same here. Last time I signed up (2 yrs ago) I thought to myself 'I'll research it a bit more next time'. Well, the 2 years is up but I just can't be arsed.
  9. Tend to agree although we had some decent pub grub there recently, places can be found. Its those abundant 8 pound pub meals that are crap.
  10. Oh yeah, sorry, Woodvale is nice.
  11. We had our 16 yr old UK nephew over recently and there's quite a difference in mindset between him and our 16 & 15 yr old nephews who have been here since they were little. I've not seen him since he was 10 but he was very cynical and too-cool-for-school with the other boys. The reason I'm replying is that, similar to your experience, he said that going to the beach was 'gay'. He constantly took the piss out of what the other kids were wearing e.g. surf stuff and thongs. He wears trackies and Adidas you see. They do stuff like indoor footy, rock-climbing, life-saving, other stuff and he wasn't interested. I think he is already a pub goer. The kids here seem to be able to be kids for longer, which is a good thing IMO. We were all a little sad when he left as he used to be a wonderful little boy but, at 16, that seems a long time ago now.
  12. Takes nothing like an hour and a half. What you driving Paul, a Robin Reliant? Takes 20 mins tops from Whitfords to ours not 40.
  13. God bless em but that's f'd up. My mate lived in Nottingham whilst at Uni, not a great place. And that was 20 years ago.
  14. I love football stories from bygone eras. The man was a giant. RIP Sir Tom.
  15. I don't know about a season pass but last time I went from Clarkson to Perth it was $4-something I think. One-way that is. If you have a season pass and top it up via DD you used to get 10% or 20% discount I think.
  16. Nice to see Dave taking an interest now some 'important' parts of the Country are affected. Other poor buggers have been underwater for about 7 weeks.
  17. Just go with your instinct, there are no right or wrong answers to be gained from here. And it doesn't sound like there is a 'winner takes all' option available to you. Invariably, whatever you do in life pisses someone off somewhere so just do what's best for you and yours.
  18. Stay safe everyone, sounds horrendous.
  19. 50 minutes? What in, the Millennium Falcon?
  20. Do people commute from Brighton to London?
  21. This summer must be the mildest Perth has had whilst we’ve lived here (6th summer). I think there were 6, 7 or more ‘heatwaves’ last year, I’d be surprised if there had been more than 1 yet this summer. Don’t get me wrong, am loving the comfortable low 30s every day although I have found it chilly a few evenings/nights. We went up to Yanchep a couple of weeks ago and it was freezing just after 6 o’clock. What does everyone else think? Not just me is it? Not getting too nesh am I?
