  1. Hi Yes there are lots of suburbs out of the city more popular for families. Mini satellite cities are being built all over and prices have risen lots too both in the city and outter suburbs. 4 or 5 years ago houses on my street were areound $450k upwards, now they are $800k upwards. As an example Im on acerage, just under an hour from the city and an hour from Gold Coast beaches but we only tend to go to the city or the coast for a day/ night out every now and again as everything you need day to day, week to week is much closer. Have a look on Realestate.com for a guide to property costs so you can see what you get for your money. Cal x Edited to add - what is it you do for work? That 'may' narrow down your search of areas, but dont believe all work is in the city, it isn;t.
  2. Brisbane is awesome, as is the Gold Coast... Its Australia it gets hot sometimes but you tend to find across the year you may have a dozen days that are that hot you can't do much. QLD has such a variety of places and things to see and do it really is a lovely place. Property wise i have always liked Bulimba in Brisbane and for the Gold Coast i would live Hinterland side (Canungra is a little fav of mine) not the beach side of the highway where its busy. Cal x
  3. As you have said above its for a couple of years (if it happens at all). To me that could be doable and not necessarily break your Aussie dream at all, as i would just look at it as an adventure, focus on the possitives and count down the days until i could move somewhere i preffered. Back when we moved we said we would live anywhere for a few years if it meant we could live in Aus, i probably wouldnt worry too much about it until they stipulate where you would have to go and if you have a prospective employer lined up they will know exactly where their work is so it shouldnt be difficult to find out. Also, dont be confused between rural and regional, they are very different. Cal x
  4. Im in QLD too, a couple of years ago we had to put in a pretty large insurance claim due to a fire on our property, not once did anyone from the insurance (one of the 'big ones) or assesors ask if we had changed a plug ourselves ! Cal x
  5. We used Crown Relo years ago as they dont use sub contractors on this side (no passing the book if things go wrong). They too quote to the nearest city. They told us to update them with an adress once we arrived and knew where we would be. We decided on a regional area and it cost extra , i cannot recall the exact figure but it wasnt extorinate if i remember correctly. Cal x
  6. Id probably message admin on Perthpoms letting them know and just set up a new user name.. I will flag admin on here for you anyway. Cal x
  7. Anywayyyyy out of respect to the OP, time to move on please, feel free to discuss parenting rights via PM or in another thread if you so wish. Cal x
  8. You will get Audi parts easy enough, its the cost on some European parts that can be eye watering, especially if they have to order it in from overseas (which can also turn a 24 hr job into a 4 day job). Most mechanics will be able to service it, although some do specialise in European vehicles. Its the same as anything else, you keep trying until you find one that you feel does a good job at a good price as there are some dodgy ones out there. Cal x

Same here,,, Twice and no issues either time... I think Marissa is pointing out the very worse case scenrio, which is that you 'could' be questioned meaning a delay of probably half an hour to an hour. Cal x
  10. Just a gentle reminder, this isnt CTF,, quit with the snide comments, veiled personal attacks or you will be placed on moderated.
  11. - The blue skies and lovely weather we have 95% of the time. - Being able to be roaming through forests, strolling along a beach or wandering around the city all within an hour or two from home. - My kids are now older but we loved the variety and standard of the free public parks and activites on offer. - Not sitting in traffic jams everyday (although traffic around us is building in numbers massively, so i dont think those jams will be far away, lol) Cal x
  12. I would have said the same until i read it last night - The WA State Government recognises the importance of attracting and retaining skilled migrant families in Western Australia, and in doing so is supporting these families by waiving public school fees for their children for 2023.
  13. This is the same link i posted above ,it does list the varying visa categorys so was hoping it was helpful. Is it just free for 2023? or in just free in general for this type of visa? Cal x
  14. Hi I think there is a fee to pay on a 491 visa but i could have been directed wrong by Google and im far from an expert, haha! Have a read through these 2 links that are specific to WA and it should help or at least give you a contact you can email to check. https://www.education.wa.edu.au/web/policies/-/enrolment-framework-for-students-with-a-visa-in-public-schools https://www.tafeinternational.wa.edu.au/wa-government-schools/school-fees-charges Cal x Edited to Add - If you are moving over this year i have just found this - The WA State Government recognises the importance of attracting and retaining skilled migrant families in Western Australia, and in doing so is supporting these families by waiving public school fees for their children for 2023.
  15. It is in the rules and we have banned before over it, but, we can only deal with them if we are made aware of them, we cannot access your PMs. Rule No 17 - Abuse of the Private Message system will not be tolerated under any circumstances. This includes sending unsolicited commercial mail via the PM system and sending abusive messages via the PM system. It is also strictly forbidden to reproduce/publicise contents of Private Messages on the open forum without the explicit permission of the sender. Cal x
  16. Rules may have changed in the last few years or could be different for each State, but we didnt have to hand ours in, i dont personally know anyone who has. My advice would be dont hand it unless asked for it. Cal x
  17. Facebook Marketplace is great for second hand items and that covers just about any area. JB Hi Fi sell white goods pretty cheap as do the Good Guys, if you are buying a few things you can always haggle the price down alittle too or ask for something else to be included (kettle, or iron etc). The shops also always seem to have a sale of some type too so worthn looking out for those. We brought no furniture or white goods over with us, we bought what we needed when we needed it and to fit the house. (bigger than norm Fridge Freezer , corner lounge rather than a 3 piece suite etc). Cal x
  18. We sent some stuff in a shared container with Crown Relocations , we actually did it twice as i had another few boxes sent a few months after we arrived BUT that was all a fair few years ago now. They were fantastic though and we had no issues or any breakages. Cal x
  19. I hope not, we have people (families) living in tents and even in their cars in way too many areas due to a rental and property demand. They are building like crazy, prices on rentals and buying have pretty much doubled in the last 5 or 6 years, many families just cannot afford the costs now. Houses are now being rented out by rooms rather than the whole house and agents are still asking upwards of $200 pr week for each room.. It is crazy. Cal x
  20. Lots of people over here seem to do Family Day Care from home. The amount of children you can have at one time ,i believe can vary depending on if you have young children too. This link is for QLD but explains the varying types of daycare available, so it may help you a bit. - https://www.qld.gov.au/families/babies/childcare This links to the same site but explains what qulaifications, certs etc you need (again this is for QLD) - https://www.qld.gov.au/education/earlychildhood/working Cal x
  21. Im not sure which State you are looking at moving too but you will probably need a White Card too in that line of work. This place does them for QLD and i think WA and Tas - https://bluedogtraining.com.au/courses/white-cards you cant apply until you are actually here though. Cal x
  22. Hi See if this info helps - https://www.saferight.com.au/nationally-accredited-crane-ticket-qualification-updated-in-line-with-2022-whs-regulations/ If you cant find the info on the website maybe give them a call or drop them an email to see if they can help. Cal x
  23. We used Crown Relocations twice to send stuff over here from the UK. We liked them as its Crown here too so no sub contractors should anything go wrong, thankfully they were excellent both times and i wouldnt hesitate to use them again. Cal x
  24. We normally have a few visits to Gladstone each year, it ist a bad place, people seem nice and friendly and there seems to be lots for kids to do too. We personally prefer to stay in Tannum Sands or Boyne Island as hubby likes the easy access to the beach ,both are a very reasonable communte into Gladstone and well worth looking at if you would be working in Gladstone. Cal x
  25. To be fair Google does say they use Swift for International transfers, not sure if Wise know as i am 99% sure i read on THEIR site they do Virgin transfers UK to Aus??????? You can make international payments with SWIFT from Virgin Money and SWIFT transfer can be instructed at any store. Fees apply. Payments are given specific value dates i.e. same-day, next day or “spot” value which is typically 2 business days ahead.
