  1. Have all your paperwork ready to go (or on USB). You will need copies of driving licences, passports, any paid up utility bills/ mortgage, any rental refernces you may have from prvious rentals (even holiday lets) and of course a copy of your letter of employment stating salary and / or a copy of a healthy bank account. It is good to have a covering letter explaining your new to the country hence lack of Australian rental history etc etc.. Hope this helps Cal x
  2. Absolutely disguting behaviour from certain individuals who have been around the forum long enough to the know the rules. This is the last warning about taking threads off track and bans / moderation of every single post before it appears will take place from now on . Cal x
  3. Unfortunately those figures are probably about right. If your not in any pain and dont want to get things done straight away you can try another dentist or even call around and ask what they charge for xyz that is listed above. I have found prices do vary from practice to practice. Cal x
  4. Not sure if Crown Relocations are still going as its a few years since i last shipped stuff, but i have used them twice to ship a few boxes and had no issues either time. Cal x
  5. @DrDougster may have some advice for you as they have personally gone through the process and are now here in Aus. It does sound like using your wife as the main applicant maybe the way to go to get a visa. Cal x
  6. Personally, no sorry, but as is always said on here ,it is best to listen to your agent. If they dont see or think its a problem, it probably isnt, they know best. Cal x
  7. Could it be $80k plus Super Ann ? Cal x
  8. If you want to be warm all year around have a look at SE Qld.. We are an hour south of Brisbane city, an hour inland from the Gold Coast and approx 1.5 hrs from the NSW border. Weather is great all year round, albeit with a handful of stinking hot days in summer. July and August tend to be our colder months, hubby never wears anything but shorts but i don the jeans and hoodies of an evening. Cal x
  9. Ive had a few reports about this thread can we please not presume things and think of other peoples feelings before posting away with your personal beliefs. Cal x
  10. Using Greater Brisbane as a guide, lots of areas that are listed as flood risk might just get some flash flooding that blocks low lying roads for a few hours, but not necessarily flooded enough damage to homes and property. I had a quick read for Ballarat and it say to avoid areas near Gnarr Creek ???? , so im guessing its the creek that is maybe prone to flooding. This is the council page for that area - https://www.ses.vic.gov.au/plan-and-stay-safe/flood-guides/ballarat-city-council Cal x
  11. My hubby struggles with reading and writing due to dyslexia but when learning Spanish we found the recorded lessons you do in your own time worked well , much easier to learn from than a book. We lived between the UK and Spain before deciding to move here, we haven't regreted our choice yet and have been here over 16 years now. Lots of luck with everything Cal x
  12. Reading Raul's post you are a little incorrect with your comment and sometimes you are given a chance to fix it .(only correcting this so the OP is aware and not scared to death ) Raul states - ''You do not get fined, but the application can be refused. If you are missing documents, the Department can request them, but they don't have to. If you provide incorrect information, this could be an issue if it is considered that you have provided false of misleading information.
  13. Lets not speculate please, after all its only been a few days, i am sure the OP will reply to the email, if they want too, when they have time to. Thanks
  14. Not sure what you mean by major problem if thats being paid... It's double that ($20,000) if they are between 15 and 24 yrs and currently out of work , its also up to $20,000 if the person you employ is on Jobseeker, so not just an incentive for employing someone over 50yrs, there are lots of different ones out there for eligible employers. 15. Hi Congratulations on the PR grant. I am presuming from your list you are already here in Aus, if so you may want to update Medicare on your visa status too as you should now have full cover not temp cover. Cal x

  17. JUST A REMINDER - This thread is going off track , some posts have been removed. Cal x
  18. I've got clothes i brought that ive never worn but for some stupid reason still have hanging in the wardrobe! lol.. We have been here just over 16 yrs,lol Cal x
  19. But not everyone who doesnt ship everything is a minimalist and like Ikea either, and i have come across quite a lot of familys who brought no furniture, especially back when doing relocations. I think i have bought 2 items of furniture from Ikea in the years i have been here and they have been shelves for the kids. There are lots of other options out there and not just cheap and cheerful, unless Melbourne is very restrictive compared to SEQ. Furniture from a run of the mill semi in the UK would look silly in a big detached aussie house, so having the benefit of buying what we wanted, when we wanted, from where ever we wanted sure worked for us and if i did it all over again i still wouldnt bring furniture. To me money thrown away is paying for a container or movecube and never using half of what your brought because it doesn't suit / fit.. Cal x
  20. Those few weeks over winter are a nightmare trying to dry clothes and that when i miss it. I do have an undercover clothes line so manage outside on that the majority of the time ,thats probably why i have never been bothered buying one here. Just to know i pretty much gave a new one away thinking i would never need it ever again is frustrating, lol. Cal x
  21. We came with 8 suitcases and shipped 8 boxes in a shared container, mainly hubbys tools, kids favorite toys, toiletries, kitchen ware and any sentimental items we couldnt part with. In hindsight i wish we had brought the tumble dryer too as it was quite new, but that is about it. Cal x
  22. You don't need to be a home owner to migrate, many people have made the move and never owned their own home. The big question will be if you get a visa to be able to migrate. Have you had a chat with an agent or looked into visa's? We have been in QLD 16 years now and moved with 2 small children ( 3 and 8 yrs). It can certainly be tough leaving everything you know behind but for us it was definately worth it. Qld is a great place but does cover a massive area so try to narrow down your search area a little. Good luck with everything Cal x
  23. Hi It will totally depend on what suburb you choose as to how quick you will secure a rental. A few years ago i would have said book temp accommodation for 4 to 6 weeks, now i would recommend 8 to 10 weeks to find a house, view it and put in an application. Personally i would keep the 10 weeks you have booked and although a tad more costly will be a good safety net until you secure somewhere. Securing a rental is not as bad as it was last year but can still be a bit of a nightmare. If you can be-friend an agent and get them on ''your side'' you may find they will help you a bit more, ideally you want one who will let you know what is coming up ,rather than what's already on the rental market. Do you have a job location to use a guide to where to live? Property Sales have boomed in most areas of Brisbane this last 12 to 24 months,. Near me, prices have doubled on lots of properties, people keep saying it will slow down, but these houses keep selling for what i think is silly money. Some do go to Auction , probably half if that, but the majority go up for sale with set date Open Homes were you can go and inspect them. This is by far the most common way of selling homes from my experience. Hope this helps a bit. Cal x
  24. Not just Perth as its the same for Brisbane too, we are under an hour from Brisbane CBD or Gold coast with its beaches etc , yet are in a Regional area and not classed as Brisbane at all and certainly not a suburb of either city. Its green with many acreage properties, miles apart from any built up city suburb or outer suburb . Cal x
