Hi Iron Chef ours is Toyota Avensis 2l td aircon 2004 54 plate, £2,300 can't find similar in your red book sorry, thanks

Ugh this is a tricky one - realistically it's only going to break even in terms of price (assuming it would be worth $10K here). The Avensis wasn't sold here (aside from the Verso) but being TD is a big tick in it's favour. I'd do some research on what other European diesel models are available here for around the $10K mark before considering bringing it over.

I'm a little surprised at those figures, as it's currently spitting out Category C for me. I'm guessing that the spec on the ST3 may well be a good deal higher than the XR-5 turbo, so make sure you're comparing apples to apples before you decide to leave it behind.

Being a 1.4 will probably make it worth closer to $20K here, which puts it as a Category B. Low mileage will help its cause.

Motorhomes are always a safe bet, category A, especially if that 2.5 is a diesel.

Category C, the costs to bring it over put it just above what it would be worth here, although yours has very low mileage. If you were planning to keep it for a long time, it may still be worth doing.

Hi Iron Chef

I'm not sure if you can advise me but here goes!

I am thinking of taking our 01 v/w L35 camper van to Oz with us. It's a German import, left hand drive. It's worth about 24,000 euro here but because it's not a common model it's hard to get an exact valuation. I think campervans are expensive in Oz so I thought it might be worth our while taking it! ( not going to be able to sell it here due to current economic climate)

I have no idea how I'd get an Australian valuation doubt they even have such a model out there!

Any help would b great

Realistically it's probably a category B, but because of the turbo conversion I'd advise you to bring it - it would be a $10K conversion if you had to get one done here, which changes the equation a fair bit. Sounds like a bit of fun, that car!

It drops into category B, but bear in mind I'm basing resale on the plain-Jane diesel models sold here - we never got the S-line in a diesel, so it may hold more appeal.

Hi i have a 1978 LHD VW westfalia, rust free cali import, 2000cc, approx £15k

we are thinking of bringing it, but expect it to be in the personal preference bracket.

This is more of a 'how long is a piece of string' question, as it's a little hard to put a value on it. I'm presuming it holds sentimental value either way :) . It would probably not give you a windfall money wise, but it would certainly be an interesting addition to Aussie roads.

It will put you a couple of thousand in front if you bring it. Worth doing if you want to keep it for a while.

BMW 330Ci Convertible

M3 Wheels

Harmon Kardon speakers

Alpine dvd/cd player

Air con

106k Miles

UK Value £4k

AU Value $24k

Based on those figures, that's well into category A.

Ok first things first - it would need to be converted to RHD, which will be a right pain in the bum. Bearing in mind that may set you back the best part of $10K alone, I would say it's probably best not to try it unless you REALLY love it.

Edit - just read the Euro value. Sell it there.

Thankyou, yes, it is sentimental, but also on our last 2 moves around uk, it has been a good conversation starter, and we have made friends in the VW community through it.

Do they require much converting? and can i keep it as a left hooker?

Even at GBP22K it's not worth bringing it over sorry. They are relatively cheap here, and a new model has just come out which would push the resale price of yours down further.

Break-even in a best case scenario. Only bring it if you love it.

It can stay left hook - if it couldn't I wouldn't have suggested bringing it!

Welcome!

Those prices are similar to the Golf listed just before. The big problem for you is the 1.2 litre engine, which is smaller than what we got in our models. Look if you're planning on holding on to it for a while, then bring it over. But don't rely on it being a money spinner.
