Well I'm glad other April applicants have CO now too!

I have our meds booked for next week, police checks sent off Friday, and Form 80's uploaded!!!! Hopefully they won't ask for more info on my work! Maybe I'll have my visa at some point in November... that would be 6 months after I applied and would make my year

Now we just need to decide when we want to go and where we want to go to! Esp as hubs has never been before! Exciting times!!!!!

Me more than anyone.....when I saw that someone had got a CO from the week after we applied I thought there's no way.........to the point that I almost thought they were lying (sorry Jayzlet ) But today is proof.

I dont for one second now think they are being selective via professions, I think its simple down to the way your application has been batched. Both Jayzlet and I are in team 2!

I think that DIAC's allocation process is an electronic version of this:

Think of a big, spinning hopper like the kind they use for raffle drawings, lotteries, BINGO, etc. They're used to mix up tickets, balls, etc.. When they move onto a new month, or maybe even week, they dump all of the applications into said hopper along with those from previous weeks. So, they've dumped April into the hopper and some Aprils are being drawn, and some February and March applicants are also in the hopper waiting to be drawn.

Of course, I hope there actually isn't a big barrel in the middle of DIAC's office. It's hopefully electronically, but it seems to be the same principle.

Hi hmsmark.

Unfortunately, I do not agree with you because I do not think that they apply a principle of a lottery when allocating someone a CO.

maybe not a lottery, but probably something more or less the same: give a team a random pile of applications from a certain timeframe, and start at the top. When your applications is on the bottom, some other team will have started on another pile from the next timeframe, before your application is picked up.

Hi bj27.

I truly appreciate your idea but I do not agree to it. I incline that DIAC does not do any actions randomly. Here are my thoughts about what we have, sure, you're free not to agree to what I'll write :

Looking through the dates people get grants and officers I concluded that DIAC does not do any actions in a random order. We saw a lot of times that applicants lodged in February and in December were allocated with a CO the same day or week, but the only thing which is similar for both is that they come from one and the same country. Other days we could see the similar cases: one lodged in February gets a grant and another one, lodged, say, in January gets a CO. In such a way, I think, that DIAC has, say, 10 teams, it is a well-known fact, and each of these teams has, say, 10 COs (10*10=100 COs, for example). I suppose that each team is subdivided into a special subgroup of officers responsible for a certain set of occupations. For example, 3 officers in team 5 process IT specialists, 2 officers process social workers (say, librarians or gardeners), 3 officers process financial specialists (accountants, auditors etc), 4 officers process special workers’ applications (miners, engineers, fitters etc). Otherwise, I cannot explain why people from one and the same country or region (but lodged in different months) are processed with different speed. I also believe that all applications have been pre-batched after the new rules had come into effect, and we all now belong to some team, and the speed we'll be processed depends upon the team we've been batched to (the teem's processing speed, of course). :jiggy:

Hi new in this forum!,

I guess they assigned applications depending on each team. There are some teams which are faster than others. That's why some people are allocated before others.

I'm having a right panic attack, worried I filled out the police check forms wrong. How long do they take to come back? Is it 10 days including the weekend?

You're entitled to your opinion. However, before becoming a teacher, I was a bureaucrat myself. In the US, not Oz, but still, there are some universal truths. The process you suggest would almost certainly be detailed in a policy manual. Because this is a government bureaucracy in an open democracy, said policy would be a matter of public record. They can't arbitrarily say: " people in jobs x, y, and z, or people from countries a, b, and c, go to the front of the line." There needs to be a rule which directs them to do so. Notice, they CAN and DO say that people with certain types of visas and sponsorships go to the front of the line. This is the prioritization of processing which we are all familiar with and the details of which are readily available.

There is a certain level of sophistication that the general public attributes to bureaucracies that just doesn't exist. Trust me, I know, I was a part of a very large bureaucracy and still work in government education. There are steadfast rules, but where there aren't..., well, sometimes they just pull a file out of the pile with no rhyme or reason.

Hi. I thought it was about time that I posted on here seeing as I have been following the form for quite some time. Me and my husband applied for a 175 in June 2011, since that date he has had a job offer and so he got a working holiday visa so he could get out there quickly. We were hoping the company would be able to sponsor him on a 457 visa but that was not the case as they did not meet the requirements. We then found out that he could apply for regional sponsorship and the company met the requirements for this. We thought this would be a quick visa but have since found out that it does not appear it will be and it looks like we will probably get the 175 before the other one!! So yes he is there and the rest of us are back in the UK and life is really hard not knowing what visa we will actually end up with or when. There are lots of other options now that he is in Oz but really we are hoping to get the 175.

We have already found out that the 175 application can be turned into the regional one and so we dont have to pay 2 lots of fees and can transfer the documents etc. We are going to be doing our medicals soon but need to speak to DIAC first, my husband is really busy at work and has struggled to find the time to be able to contact them, last time he tried to ring he was on hold for about half an hour. How do we arrange the police checks? I understand there is a form that you fill in and send, is that for each person including my children who are 1 & 2 and do you fill it in online or print form out and send in post? If so where to, I cant seem to find the info anywhere about it and how long do they last for if we do them now?

Just make sure you dont get granted your 457 after your 175 as this will supersede your 175 and then you will only have a 4 year temporary visa instead of a PR visa.

For police checks you need to visit:

Fill the form in and send it off.

Hi. Thanks for the link will take a look at that and get that and medicals sorted. We know our medicals will be referred due to a medical condition so we want to get them sorted now as I can see just to get an appoinment will take a while.

No the regional sponsor visa hasnt actually been applied for as we are still at the waiting for nomination to be accepted stage which we have been told could take 4 months! We could have a CO on the 175 in that time and be granted the visa so if and when the nomination comes back we will probably just leave it at that and not actually apply. Again we need to confirm with DIAC once we ever get a chance to speak to them, have tried to email but I doubt they will reply!

28th or 18th? Honestly dont worry! If it goes beyond the 10 working days just send them an email, thats what I did when I didnt get OH's back - they responded within a couple of hours.

Well, I've had to check it about 5 times as I didnt believe what I was reading.....my meds have finalised. I did provide 3 or 4 recent letters from my Specialist but was half expecting them wanting more. So pleased. We did send our police checks off over a week ago using the online attaching facility but haven't received any sort of acknowledgement so I'm not sure if they got there ok. Might send them again via an attachment to an email so that I can also ask if there is anything else they need

Who is going to be next for the grant then? - there's a few of us ready for grant now.
