But don't the vast majority of British pubs have those wretched money grabbing machines? Our local has a quiz machine that seems to rarely be unused and some of the punters seem to put more money in the bandit they they could possibly earn!

Were not talking a quiz machine and the odd fruit machine in the corner of a pub here, most pubs if not all have a separate room with 20plus machines in them, it's obscene. Nsw people spend more money on gambling per head than anywhere else in the world.

Have you been in an Australian pub? They have pokie rooms here........yes they do have them in British pubs but it's on another scale here!

it is very sad the large numbers of people who are addicted to these machines in Australia.

Gambling addiction is a real problem, and these machines are very addictive for some people, causing them to spend their pensions and wages the day they get them. Marriages breakdown because of them.

The state governments though are addicted to the revenue they get out of them, so they are here to stay.

Will you please stop banging on about your brilliant pool which i was swimming in defrosting from last years horrible cold winter, i am already having withdrawal symptoms about Australia as it is, with this years horrible long freezing cold winter, we are into the 7 month of crappy weather here and they are predicting another 5 months more of it, then it will be................ the start of winter again.

:laugh::cry::elvis::yes:

Having read several of your posts one question springs to mind. If the UK is that bad why dont you leave?? People like you are so annoying, whinge all day long but never do anything about it. Grow some balls man and take the plunge. Its time to stop moaning either put your money where your mouth is or shut up and remain in that ghastly mother land.

Why do you post on this thread anyway? This is supposed to be good advice for people who did have the balls to try Australia and who are now having 2nd thoughts. Youve never lived here are are supposedly heading in this direction. There are plenty of other threads on this forum for people coming to Oz, so why come on this one???

Please stop deliberately sabotaging this one.

I think he's made it clear that he's waiting for a better exchange rate and for UK property prices to pick up.

Currently Chloew they are limited to certain states.. WA is a state without pokies except the Casino.

Hopefully siamsusie, it stays that way.............

Poker machines Western Australia Colin Barnett | oneperth.com.au

We have them here, I dont like them at all Chloew... but when I do a tad of research I see they are a great revenue tax wise to the states (unsure of all the legalities etc)... but they a scourge on relationships, humanity etc. I do have a girlfriend who is very addicted, and flies to Tasmania for the sole purpose of.....

Cigarettes must now be covered.... children are refrained from drinking until 18, but children are privy to seeing the lottos on the screen in pubs etc.. Chloew.

To chris955, those pics of Nunney Castle made me realise that I miss the visible history of Europe. And I have recently discovered that my ancestors lived in Nunney in the early 1800s so look forward to exploring around there : ) Thanks for that!

No problem at all, it is a lovely place and certainly one we will be looking at. I know what you mean about the visible history.

Shall I continue? I could easily! I must say - these are MY thoughts and in no-way expect everyone to agree, but also must say - they are not to put AU down, they are what I looked forward to on return to my mother land.

I'll stop for now, I think the above is enough to bring a smile to those on the way home!

Wow so many I agree with, going back for a couple of reasons, but reading your list makes me realise how much I actually do miss!!!!

Yes I agree, it was stupid saying there aren't sandy beaches in the UK, in fact most ARE sandy.

Not sure about MOST UK beaches being sandy but having travelled all over the world (apart from Australia Ironically) the best beach I have ever been to is Skegness. Yes there are beautiful beaches in Wales (somewhere I love) but skeggy is stunning (the beach not the town).
