I sympathize having lost my father in early 2014 which is when I felt free to apply for our visas, there was nobody else to be there for him so I wouldn't leave him, until the last few months he was very independant but lonely, I miss him but it has set us free to join our family in Oz (fingers crossed) it is one of the dilemmas of people living longer the pull between the elderly and grandchildren, not easy whatever you do. Good luck !

Immi only moved 2 days up to 16 May. Still 7 days to go until my lodgement

Hi, can't believe they have only moved 2 days! Maybe next week might be better?

The way things are going I don't think my 3 month visa is going to be long enough, I will need my 143 granted before 3rd October!

Hi Amanda

it's much better knowing that we have everything arranged up to our departure. We were both stressing out not knowing where we where we were going to live in 3 weeks time. Our daughter is thrilled to bits that we are arriving and can't wait. I'm excited and terrified at the same time. It's still a waiting game when we get there.....and still no decision on if we can stay.

The days are flying by as we have so much to do that at least it's not such a slog waiting for the Friday update!

Have you arranged your meds yet? I'm still sort of hopeful that we might get to do ours before we leave. Was that a pig flying over????

Hiya, it sounds like you've made the right decision for your circumstances - I think we all feel in some sort of limbo. Our meds are booked for next week, 25th May, so we are flying to London on Sunday and having a few days to see the sights again, it'll be the last opportunity for some time that's for sure! Hope you get some joy from immi about yours in the not too distant. But for now, there's so much going on for you, enjoy any moments of peace!

We have stopped looking at this date now, we fly out in 11 days, and what will be will be. If we keep looking for the Friday updates, and they only move a couple of days, then stress levels rise again. :-) Besides, worse case scenario is we have return tickets for 16th August lol!

I am hoping that this bulge in applications for May/June 2014 was caused by the fact that non contributory parent visas were suspended in June 2014 and then after a huge public outcry were re-instated in October 2014. If this is the case then I hope things should start moving again after June. However without having any information about the number of 143/173 visas in the queue we can only speculate and just hang on in there and hope things start to speed up. On 7 Jan IMMI were processing applications lodged up to 13 Feb 2014, 693 days behind. Today they are processing applications up to 16 May 2014, 735 days behind. So in 4 1/2 months they have "slipped" 1 1/2 months.

For those of you on the cusp of getting a CO it must be so frustrating to see such little movement. For those of us still so far away the dream seems to be receding ever backward.

I'm taking the same line as you , Wishfull, hoping that once the bulge resulting from the imminent rise in the amount of contribution required has been worked through by Immi, then the processing time will speed up again. Whatever, it's a matter totally out of our control so I'm trying not to get fixated on dates and to live my live my life here as fully as I can in the meantime. I do keep watching the entries on this forum though, so that I can continue to pick up useful tips for the future!

Congratulations to all of you who are now on or nearly on your way. Enjoy your new lives in Australia. For the others who still have a while to wait, it's may be better to not watch the kettle too much as it takes longer to boil if you watch it (as the saying goes!!)

Interesting read whilst sat here waiting.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-36299682

Very interesting. Each to their own though - Sydney wouldn't suit me any more than London which I detest (maybe that's age creeping in, haha). And I do think there will be differences in working hours, cost of housing etc in different parts of Australia, just as there are differences within the UK. So it's probably over-generalising to say housing, cars etc are more expensive than the UK. As for jobs, I won't be looking for one, but my daughter and her husband found they were in great demand by Australian employers, working no longer hours than they did in the UK. And pubs - I can do without pubs these days as I prefer socialising with friends in our homes. As to the cost of housing etc, where I'm headed it is way below the cost where I currently live. Maybe some of the returners' problems are down to not doing enough research before deciding where to settle in Australia to get the lifestyle they want at a price they can afford?

Hi I agree with your 'thoughts' ,when reading about what some people expect when they get to Australia is laughable ,wife works in uk but doesn't want to in Aussie or wants less hours wants4bed house with swimming pool(,never got in uk ) it don't matter where you live if you want something you have to work to get it,and of course it will make a difference where you decide to settle Sydney-Brisbane - Gold Coast-Perth-London- Birmingham- Devon- northeast- northwest,

My parents have now officially completed their medicals - they actually went on 22nd April, but due to some unexpected minor health issues, my Mum had to go back to her GP for some investigations. It's all good now though, and everything has been sent through to Immi. I would advise a pre-Medicals check with your GP if you have any concerns, as it might help prevent precious time delays!

Hi Moomin, do you or anyone else there know what the medicals entail and what they will not accept I assume they are looking at serious conditions? Most of us take some medication as we get older.

My parents had a urine test, blood pressure check, HIV test, chest X-Ray, and general check of medical history. They do a mini mental test too -which screens for dementia. My parents both take medication - I think that is generally OK, as understandably people tend to take medications as they get older. It was good to have information about any health concerns/investigations etc that they had done on the last 5 years too. Alan Steel posted a good summary of the test, so here it is again:http://www.gdciq.gov.cn/CJSFW/Documents/panel-doctors-instructions.pdf

Hope that helps :cute:

Hi one and all in the waiting room. I decided it is about time I popped in to say :ssign6:. We applied in December 2014 and were hoping to be on our way by Christmas this year! I don't think that's likely to happen now though:sad:

We will be moving to Melbourne when we eventually get there and I know there are a few of you also heading that way so maybe we can organise something at some point.

No doubt I will be on here with questions as and when things occur to me and also to vent steam at the Immi dates!!

Look forward to joining in with you all

Jan
