Why is Perth BORING???

Cazz

Recommended Posts

To all you folks out there who have been to, or have lived in Perth & say it is boring my question to you is WHY???? What have other states got that Perth hasn't, that you call it BORING? What would you like to have in Perth to make it LESS BORING???

We as yet have only been there for our validation trip but will be moving there as soon as we sell our house, but as far as we were concerned there's everything there you could want. So what is it YOU want??? Just curious to know. X :wideeyed:

I think some people find it rather isolated (it's low population was a big plus for us) and very laid back. Personally we love it here and don't find it boring at all, but like everything it's horses for courses and what tick one persons box doesn't for someone else.

Define 'boring' (I'm sure someone will!)

What I mean to say is...each to their own- one mans boring is anothers paradise. If it works for you and you love it there's nothing else to say! Who cares what the 'perception' of the place is...the longer it stays 'boring' the less people will come ;) and the more special it will stay.

It's a beautiful place to live and its virtues have been discussed elsewhere as have its pitfalls.

Welcome home!

Maybe we are boring, I don't really care, we thought it was fab with loads to do & yes the isolation is a bonus!!! I was just curious to know as there have been a few posts on here recently of people asking if they should move to Perth or Brisbane, & quite a few people have said Perth is boring. I just want to know why they think that & what Perth is missing that would make it exciting!!! X

I should imagine 70% of 20 somethings outgrow Perth and leave for another state or another Country, it's great for older families youngsters and early teens, but I bet when your kids reach 19+ they will start to moan it is to quiet and boring as they see all the nightlife and things going on in other places, Perth is isolated so young adults feel they have done everthing Perth has to offer and have outgrown it by their early 20s and that is why so many travel to the UK Europe etc in search of exitment and never return.

I believe its the type of people attracted to perth in the first place.

Sand, Sea, beer, retirement, 4 bed, 2 bath new build,

Spend all day in the pool drinking cold beer and suddenly wonder why the pool is changing colour.

Thats my view of expats going to perth.

You`re view and my reality are obviously two different things - thank god!

I'm trying to see how I fit into your stereotype .... but other than a 4x2 (not a new build) I can't .

Once again, not sure about the whole 'boredom' concept. You can be 'bored' in any place, if you are that sort of person. Surely there are so many things to do and see in life that boredom is up to you. When I lived in London when I was younger, I did everything, saw everything over a period of a few years and was never bored, but then there is always something to do here (Melbourne) as well, there are nightclubs, theatres with the latest shows, fantastic country drives, good pubs if you search them out, great beaches, lovely picnic spots, parks, bike riding paths, fishing spots, boating facilities, indoor sport, outdoor sport, and the list goes on. My kids are 18 and 20 and they are never bored, and they have been to London too. Once kids make friends there's plenty to do. You can have a quieter life or a busy life - it's there waiting, take your pick!

I think it depends on what you enjoy doing. If you want to spend your time at the beach or socialising with others with the odd trip to the museum/art gallery etc then Perth will not be boring for you, but if you're the type of person who needs constant, different cultural 'hits' then probably not.

We lived there for a few years when our kids were small and we loved it because our lives revolved around the home and entertaining the girls. However, by the time we left we really did feel that we'd seen it all (travelled the length of the whole west coast) and wanted something more. But that's just us; we have friends who moved at the same time as us who would never dream of living anywhere else. They love spending their weekends in the pool or reading in the backyard with an occasional foray into Perth if there's something worth seeing.

Look at how you live your life now and what you enjoy doing - it should give you some idea of whether Perth will suit you.

I was talking about young adults who have spent their iives there, If you have spent your life in isolated Perth you know every bit of grass in the place and that is why so many young people cannot take it anymore, you cannot catch a ferry to Europe or go on a stag night to Prauge Dublin ets, as I say great for families and young kids but deadly boring for late teenagers and young people in their twenties.

Do you not think it depends on the individual teenager or young adult? Not all kids and young people are the same or want the same things. Just as not every teenager or young adult in the UK will move away to Uni; go clubbing every weekend, take drugs, drink to excess, do mentally stimulating jobs and seek out every possible opportunity open to them. Lots of my friends still live 5 minutes from their parents, live essentially dull lives (though not to them) and are perfectly happy.

Perhaps boring parents who like Perth breed boring kids content to waste their lives living close to home??

Hi, Like I said earlier, it's not us that think Perth is boring & when we eventually get there, are ever likely to think that.We spent one day of our trip watching Ospreys & kestrels on the beach, looking at different bugs in the sand & trying to rescue washed up jelly fish & head them back out to sea!! We were happy as pigs in poo, easily amused ! As far as we could tell, Perth has it all, hence my question because we can't understand WHY they think that! X
