What's the one single thing that made you go home

If you can put it down to one (single) thing that made you decide to go home what would it be?

I not asking for a list of things you don't like about aus, just one thing that if you could have changed would have possibly made you stay.

For me it was the social life (or lack of) I crave social interaction and i prefer it on neutral ground (not peoples back gardens). I like to spontaniously think hmmmm i fancy a few beers with so snd so then in 15mins be supping a beer with them. If i could have done that in aus i might still be there today.

Sausages, supermarkets and all that nonsense don't bother me much but my social life is everything.

What about you?

You can socialise anywhere Aldo...I like other peoples houses and pubs/clubs equally. Depends what I'm out for really. I reckon your reasons for leaving were surely more complex..

Having said that am looking forward to being able to sample some of Perths nightlife/restaurants with my Mum coming to see us in a few weeks..

Your right, it was i myriad of things that i didn't like in aus but if the social thing was more to my liking i might very well have stayed and tried a bit harder.

Nice one Aldo, I like the thread idea, keep it simple - the one biggest reason. Lot better than all the fighting!

Have to agree with bunbury there Aldo. You certainly have an unresolved issue with Australia...you can't appear to let it go.

Yeah, we all have issues, but Aldo is at least entertaining. No danger of rose tinted specs with Aldo to look after us!

I'm in Australia, but for me it would have to be education. I never thought I'd be saying this as we've lived in Perth before and were really happy with the schooling the girls had there. Went back to the UK and they all thrived there too. Now in NSW and the older two in particular are 'treading water'. I always knew they'd be repeating work and came with the attitude that they should treat it as revision. Fine except that what my year 9 is doing here, my year 5 was doing in the uk and she's bored rigid to the point that she's stopped trying and her grades are slipping. I've spoken to the school and apparently it's all her fault!

I'm sorry this so long - I just don't know what to do; going back to the uk isn't an option and I'm scared to change school in case it's the same there. It's so sad watching your bright, intelligent child lose her 'spark'.

So, that would be my reason. Sorry.

Thanks for an honest post Aldo.

All the knockers, would of it been better if he left because he missed his Mum? Everyone is different and what Aldo describes is true the Aussies would rather have a BBQ in the back yard than spend all night in the pub. Each to there own i guess.

Personally I'd rather be in a backyard with mates than in a pub

I agree on the education front - children in the UK seem way ahead of where Australian children are at the same age. It took my daughter a couple of years just to catch up with her peers when we first came back, because they had covered so much more ground than she had.

For me it was the call of the land. I remember having a dream, set, of all places, in Bridlington, which I hadn't visited in over 30 years, and looking out onto the silver North Sea, then waking up and thinking "Home! I've got to get home!"

Aldo is doing a service to those still out in Aus who are confused and think it's only them that don't like Aus for what ever reason.

I call him the peoples champion.

Not gone home yet (only here 8 months) but main reason for thinking of going home is I have a feeing of panic when I think I'll be here forever

Unhappiness. Although I think Perth is a great place, and really we have a good life here, I have been deeply unhappy for the past year and I can't even explain it to myself. It's just a general sense of loss for my old life and all who were in it.
