Anyone "Bored" With the Aussie lifestyle

Looking forwards to those thoughts...we've also had trouble making friends..and we've been here 24 years! We're pretty good at selling ourselves, hold parties, dinner do's etc - the Aussies come, enjoy themselves and never think of inviting us back! We have made friends with Aussies but it's been hard work and they're defintely not the bog standard article.

bet you didn't do them more than once, trust me it gets better, then you will enjoy Australia more, look to the future not the past,I google Uk many times and look at all the lovely buildings, and the road i used to live on,go and look at the reals estate that was in your area, look at your UK postcode properties, then look around and then you will not feel as homesick, think you will enjoy looking ,at the same time be more than pleased you were granted a visa,so many get refused,at least you can go back, they cant even give it a go

hey what about the more than beautiful buildings OZ has and the buzz of the city of Melbourne

ps glad i settled didn't think i would, cried forever when i got here, had to go back for several months, was laughing when i was allowed back

Maybe it is just Sydney....over 24 years we have had COUNTLESS parties and dinners. Always the same. We loved it here for the first 6 years, then got caught-up in bringing up the kids, now look to when the kids have left home then retirement and I just see RSL clubs and bowling here for me. BORING!

we were lucky and made several good caring friends, but do you know at the end of the day you have to be happy on your own, find and do things you enjoy,on the road you enjoy the company of some really down to earth people,as long as you go in the parks like the big 4 or top tourist sites, then head along to the Irish Pubs,RSL is ok for dinner haha

I'm constantly amazed at the number of folk who put their boredom down to lack of friends or socialising. I'm glad I like my own company...........I can keep me amused for hours :biglaugh:.............I'm alone on home duties, have only one friend who's a 90 minute drive away, and yet I've never been bored in the 15 yrs that I've been here.

Came across this tonight and loved it, my mum always used to say 'BORING PEOPLE GET BORED!' and it is soo true. you have to get out and make your life, it doesnt just happen. I am under no illusion that it'll be hard work to make lifelong friends when we get out there but I will go all out to do so! People that are too lazy to get out and mkae friends and a life for themselves deserve to be bored.

Just my opinion like ;)

....or, people that don't get bored have very low expectations of life.

There's filling your time, and then there's filling your time learning, helping, doing, creating, listening, appreciating...etc, etc. I think that's why we're bored here in Sydney. We're 'busy' seeing people, working, doing chores & having bbq's but we'd rather be listening to small groups of musicians, visiting beautiful buildings, revelling in history or walking across heather-clad moors.

We found it a problem initially because we dont have kids and most our age do so we loose out on the schoolrun/sports/activities etc. the best thing I ever did was join the SES unit locally, it took a while but social life is improving all the time now.

Lack of culture, a sense of history and places to visit that don't involve a 6 hour drive, a campsite and a surfboard can make life in Perth pretty boring!

If you live for the outdoors you'll love it. If you enjoy mental stimulation, then your brain might start to suffer.... :)

Whether or not you are `bored` , all depends what you are looking for and want out of life doesnt it?

I have been here not far off 5 years and I cant say I have been bored! You dont have to have everything to have a good life!!!!!!!!!!

you get bored anywhere, if you live next to the best beach in the world you will never probably go on it after the honeymoon period is over, as the post above says.....it is up to you how bored you get.

I am totally bored with myself and not afraid to admit it. and i am bored of spending every free minute with my children as I can't get a babysitter to go anywhere without them! it was a novelty at first, doing the barbie thing and taking the kids with you, but now I want to have more adult conversation. I have made quite a few friends here but its as someone else said - every one is so spread out (I can only talk for Perth), taxis are hard to come by so we tend to just meet up in parks with the kids in school holidays. how i long for a night on the lash with the girls - a good old fashioned pub crawl!

Just a matter of opinion I suppose. Personally alcohol and BBQ's aren't really the sort of mental stimulation we enjoy, but for some I appreciate that this laid back lifestyle is what they are looking for. And you don't have to be a boring person to get bored. On the contrary, some people simply want different things out of life and a more challenging environment than WA. I don't know why everyone gets so defensive over the word boring - Perth's nickname is 'Dullsville' for heavens sake! Like I said, if you're into the outdoorsy life it's a great place to live, no one's knocking the place, it's just personal opinion.

BTW, this post is on the 'Moving back to the UK' forum!

different things bore different people. I used to work with blokes in aus that would hyperventilate when the next issue of Ralf was due out, I once had to stay awake during a heated debate over whether style side or tray back utes where the best.....

That's got to be one of the most stupid (and bitchy) statements I have read on here in a long time. So you are saying that nowhere in the world is dull then!

Fiona,

Opinions can change when you've been here a few years; believe me.

I've been here nearly ten years and nothwithstanding Perth's good features (yes there are some) it can never be labelled a vibrant, exciting or diverse city.In my opinion it deserves it's nick name.
