    We're a group of women who love getting together for movies, meals and a good chat over coffee. We also get out and about to concerts, theatre and events, always more fun when there's a group going. We even have activities for kids and partners.     Plenty of friendly faces here, but Castle Hill is around 45 mins from Holsworthy. Most of the events we have each week are around the Hills District so it might be a bit of a hike for you. Just come and live in the Hills instead!

    Sydney Newcomers is for everyone - a friendly group of women and their families who love to meet regularly at movies, coffee, meals out and various events. We'd like to welcome you to our wonderful annual event for families….and this year it’s almost cold enough to be a Christmas! Dust off the tinsel, put on your silly reindeer antlers and break out the mulled wine. Join us at a lovley park in the Hills District for Christmas festivities. BYO meat for the BBQ, drinks, chairs, utensils and a plate of salad, nibbles or dessert to share. We will have a few party games and sweets for the kids.     Apparently, according to some International Survey...which I've forgotten of couse, Australia is in the top three countries where it's easiest to set up and run a business.

    What did you decide to do? Hope you found him a school place, no public school can refuse him, but that won't stop them trying. Just take it up with the Area Education Office. Plenty of dope in all schools, but I think not half as much as you'll find in UK schools.

    ...sounds like you all need to come and meet us. We're a group of mostly expats (but some Aussies) who get together to socialise, compare notes and have a bit of fun. We're mostly over in the Hills District but have members right across to St Ives. We organise regular social activities ranging from drinks, movies, nights out, book club and always enjoyable lunches. We even run our own babysitting club. PM me for more info.

    I need to open a UK bank account or offshore account in Sterling. I approached NatWest & Jersey offshore and it appears that anyone in the world is allowed to open an offshore account - except anyone with an Australian address! It's all to do with the Aust. Corp Act 2001 apparently. But, HSBC have said they can open one for me, but it pays no interest and will cost me $200 in fees to open. So how can they escape the dreaded Aus. Corp Act? Can anyone shed any light on this, I urgently need to open a Sterling account?

    Didn't know that....thanks. Will look into it. Would still prefer to have an account in the UK though or at least a Channel Isle. My a/c in the UK had to be put in the inlaws address...you have NO idea how dreadful this is!

    Was just over in UK and tried to open an a/c there (want to buy property) but they said the Oz govt won't allow Australian residents to hold a/c's in UK. I've a small joint a/c in the UK but they want a credit check done before I could open a new account and of course that means providing job info etc...impossible as we live in Oz. Is it worthwhile looking at offshore banking options...I want to keep some money in Sterling.

    A levels definitely are credited highly here. It would be easier to get a place in a high ranking uni course with A levels rather than attempt to score a high ATAR. She also then has her options open for a UK uni place also. Having said that, I prefer the NSW curriculum. As has been mentioned by a previous poster, you get to choose (on average) six subjects in Yr 11 (lower sixth) and five in Yr 12 (upper sixth). The depth isn't as great and there's an emphasis on exploration and problem solving. You can't go past the social issues and 'generally' the kids here are very friendly, more into sport, less hanging around the streets. But, as far as useful qualifications go, A levels are definitely the more valuable. Why not have her study an IB...then she can go anywhere and do anything as it's an international certificate and gaining popularity. Just get your facts right regarding international fees in both countries. The UK ones will sting you big time - just being British isn't enough!

Each month we hold a range of events ranging from simply meeting for lunch or coffee, through to theatre outings, meals out, book club, going out to the flicks, parties, events for kids...events for the blokes and we even have a cut-price Spa Day coming-up on the 17th which will be a hoot! It's a fabulous group of ladies who all are friendly and welcoming - we know what it's like to be the other side of the world starting again as we've all been there. We're not just for newcomers either...but for anyone wanting to enjoy socialising with friendly folk and trying new things. PM me for more details.
