Guest The "legdes"
Well guys another month has gone by. For those of you still in the UK....you're another month closer to being here. It is definately worth the wait, stress and trouble so hang in there. For those who are here...there's quite a few more of us now..please come and meet, even if its just a quick hello. Time: 1st Sunday Every Month 3pm What you'll need: Bring a picnic or barbie food..there are free electric barbies available...or there's a small cafe. If its calm we'll bring our small boat so if you or the kids fancy a quick trip we should be able to oblige. Venue: Kingston Park, Adelaide - right next to the Brighton Caravan Park and Holiday Village What its like: Its right on the front, a few steps away from a sandy beach which streches all the way (miles and miles) to Glenelg, there is a car park and a kids park, a good amount of shady area too. The holiday park is small and nice. Directions: Proceed South from Glenelg along Brighton Road which eventually becomes Lonsdale Road, when you start to climb up the hill (its a very long hill) watch for the camp site sign..you get about 200m warning to turn it will direct you left down Schofield Road towards the sea. ...(if you get to Hallett Cove then you've missed the sign and you've gone too far). Keep following the signs for Kingston House and the campsite (its really well signed) until you reach the campsite/holiday village. Park up and at the opposite side of the car park to the holiday village is a grassed area right in front of the beach with a couple of benches and a park.....(NB NOT the caravan site play area which is right next to the car park). We'll put an England towel on the ground...just in case you don't hear the accents and aren't sure its us. (Would use an Ozzie one but haven't got one...yet). If you want my mob PM me. Also, meet up at my house on Monday am just for coffee and chat etc at 10am. PM me for the address if you think you can come.

TopTurner SA SS granted 6/10 Shirazeram – SA SS lodged 9/09, approved Nov 09, Keith&Ju – SA SS lodged 6/11 Some Things Some of Us have learned Since Arriving: Vaccinations Get your small kids vaccinations up to date and bring proof with you as you can claim the equivalent of a type of Child Benefit to help with child care (about 50% back which at around $50 per day is quite a lot) …but they won’t pay it if your vacs aren’t complete and they will need proof. SS and Immigration - if you don’t use the meet and greet you need to pop into 55 Currie Street (right in the middle of Adelaide) with your passport and fill in a form….even if you’ve already gone through imm, got your drivers licence, tax ref, employment and are paying tax etc etc. Only the principal applicant needs to go though so not too bad and it only takes 10 mins. CAR PARKING – display tickets on the passenger side or you’ll get a fine. We got one but rang in, faxed a copy of our parking ticket so they could see we’d paid and thankfully they waived it. Be warned apparently they take photos to support what they see. SPEED CAMERAs – watch out when you arrive especially around the airport, the limits change and you can easily get caught out…some of our friends did. CARS We wish people had told us to consider bringing our people carrier...we're pretty sure that it would have saved us thousands of dollars. Second hand cars keep there value really well over here. We are off to buy one next week so have been doing all the shopping around etc....wish we'd shipped it. - You also have to pay stamp duty and registration fees when you but a car, so keep this in mind. We too wish we had brought our people carrier. Sold ours for peanuts and worth 3 to 4 times more here TRADES : Plasterers, tilers, brickies, hairdressers etc etc(as well as the expected plumbers and sparkies) need to be licenced...in addition to TRA etc Brickies The MBA in Adlelaide CBD are really helpful re getting your licenses. MOBILES Its probably worth buying an unlocked handset from Singapore or even the UK. Our friends did and got it for about half price as a result...we wish we had too now - doh. On arrival you can only register for pay as you go for the first month, we think a good package is the one provided by "Lebara" a new company with very reasonable international charges...limited handsets though so shop in Singapore ! Totally agree - I am using my UK phone with a Telstra sim in - works fine, Yes unlocked both our phones before we came and using Telstra, they do deals depending on the amount purchased MEDICARE - you need a perm address and your passports, fill in one form for the whole family. You can use a C/O address (a friend/relative etc)We used the holiday rental address for this TAX REF Registration - can be done online PETROL - this is bizzare and I don't quite believe it..but its true. Petrol is a lot dearer on Thurs, Fri and I think Mondays and poss Tues...there are cheap petrol days through out the state..its worth asking a local...it goes up by about 15 -20p per litre ??!! We didn't find out until we'd already filled up with $84 worth - doh! If you shop in Woolworths on the end of each till receipt you will get a 4 cents off a litre if you but your petrol in a Caltex / Woolworths garage. you will also get offers for petrol on your woolies reward card. Petrol sooooo cheap!!!!! Clothes: Wish we had brought more childrens clothes in different sizes with us and adult ones come to that, not very good choice, poor quality, expensive what I have seen so far. Car Seats - wish we had brought them with us. Everyone said UK ones not legal here, so got rid of 3 nearly brand new ones. Asked for car seats for the hire car and they gave us a booster seat and a gracco type car seat, same as in UK. After looking in other peoples cars at childrens seats, a lot seem to be the same. Really don't know what to believe regarding this. Think to be legal the full car seats need a rear strap which fits to an anchor point fitted to the car. Boosters though …well they must be alright - how can they not be ??? On a good note too. we have found good prices for wine and have just bought a load of electricals from the Good Guys warehouse and feel that the price we paid was very good. Guest The "legdes"
Wow wouldn't that be good ! I for one will be saying some prayers about it . Perhaps DIAC have finally realised the error of their ways...they first did this to people in March....we were one of the few affected back then and as a result had to change to state sponsored. No regrets though...its wonderful here.

Mechanical/production engineers don't though. Inland Revenue - if you have your P45 you can inform them of your departure and claim any tax rebates before you leave. Finances, pensions etc - you have 6 months to do something about pensions, shares etc before your growth in funds is taxable (FIF Tax). You can transfer some pension funds into Oz ones and so not get taxed. The Oz tax year is July to June. You have to employ an accountant to do your tax return each year. TraceyT
Hi, We booked our flights for the 27/6/10 and land on 29/6/10. Very excited!! For those who flew into Singapore Airport, you might be able to give me some advice ~ We land in Singapore at 08.00 and fly out at 23.50 on the same day. We were wanting to show the children some of the city for the day, so were going to get a day visa. Will we have to collect our luggage from the carousel, as we are leaving the airport, even though our flight is from Manchester to Adelaide, with no scheduled stopover? Thanks, Tracey xx
briggs
Hi, I am moving to Adelaide in Jan 2010 with my partner. We are on the 475 state sponsorship visa. Our plans are eventually to move to Queensland. Is this possible with the 475 Visa? Could we both stay in Adelaide on this visa for 6 months then move up to regional areas in Queensalnd? Hope i am making sense. Thank you
Guest The "legdes"
I went to the session the SA govt hold monthly for new migrants and they spoke about the requirement for state sponsored visa holders to stay in the state. They said it is a moral obligation not legal..but hey you know what, with all the changes the government are putting through I'm not sure that I personally would risk moving before I'd complied to that obligation. Guest The "legdes"
Briggs, Whats the bets you decide you like SA better than QLD ? The couple we migrated with had planned on QLD as we did but ended up here because we ended up state sponsored. They say its nicer here and are more than happy to stay. You might end up doing the same !
briggs
Yeah possibly! You never know. :-) What obligation is it? That i would have to stay in SA for 2 years, before i could move anywhere? Thank you!
Guest The "legdes"
If like us you are on a 176 SS visa ...yes you are morally obligated to stay in SA for 2 years. Its lovely here..I'm sure you'll love it too. Everyone is really friendly, the beaches are plentiful, the climate is great, the housing may be a bit more affordable (but I'm not sure its actually much different). I'd say just get here and give it a go ! We know of a couple who moved to QLD only to move back to SA...so it must have something going for it. Guest The "legdes"
Well guys another month has gone by. For those of you still in the UK....you're another month closer to being here. It is definately worth the wait, stress and trouble so hang in there. For those who are here...there's quite a few more of us now..please come and meet, even if its just a quick hello. The ledges, xshazx will definately be there and hopefully so will Paddy and Jimmy and anyone else who's already landed. Time: 1st Sunday Every Month 3pm What you'll need: Bring some nibbles, a drink or even a picnic or barbie food..there are free electric barbies available...or there's a small cafe. Venue: Kingston Park, Adelaide - right next to the Brighton Caravan Park and Holiday Village on the beach...look for an Ozzie flag by the car park near the beach. What its like: Its right on the front, a few steps away from a sandy beach which streches all the way (miles and miles) to Glenelg, there is a car park and a kids park, a good amount of shady area too. The holiday park is small and nice. Bring your dog if you like. We'll fly an Ozzie flag (it was too embarrassing with an England one)...just in case you don't hear the accents and aren't sure its us. If you want my mob PM me, I'll check for messages around 1pm tomorrow (Sunday) and if you leave you mob number I'll ring or text you.
