Hi Guys,

Can anyone advise on what is the best way to obtain employer sponsership. My husband is a mental health nurse with 8 years expereince. We want to migrate on a 457 sponsered visa but don't know how to obtain this. Do we just have to make contact with the hospitals direct or should we be going through agencies?

Any help would be much appreciated.

There are plenty of recruitment agencies who will find employers willing to engage in sponsorship if you wish to go on 457. You can also look at individual states sponsorship list to go on 176 permanent visas if you apply direct to the state government. I am with an agency who have been fantastic, I won't broadcast them or name drop here, but please PM me if you want further info. They have been amazing in sourcing me work.

Thanks

Hi I am looking on travelling to Adelaide / Melbourne for 4 months this winter, I am regisered in the UK as a Learning disabilities nurse (RNLD) and I am unsure if that line of nursing is recognised in Australia - or is it covered under mental health nursing? Please help!

Also, if I was not able to take a nursing job, would I be able to find work as a care assistant for the 4months I was there?

Hey I am also a learning disability nurse, I am registered with AHPRA but under conditions I only work as a disability nurse, therefore we cant work in mental health. Disability nurse jobs are hard to come across in Aus I have managed to get sponsorship with an agency however who have promised me work in this speciallity. They are only based in Sydney though. You will find a nursing post, get in touch with community services as apposed to health care. Good luck

That's ok, I know how you feel I was stressed about the exact same thing for ages! Was so happy wen I received registration! Apparently our diploma is the same level as their degree in Aus so all is well. Try not to stress now. Just make sure you send all required documents, they had to request further info from me, think that's why mine took so long!

Just been offered a new grad position with NSW Health based at Tamworth hospital :)

Qualified 2 weeks ago and thought I would have to get experience before coming to Australia but looks like I've been really lucky

That is really encouraging although I still have 2 years till I qualify, hope I fall as lucky as you.

You must be so excited!!! Good luck with everything and keep us up to date.

Thank you

I sent my CV to professional connections, who are one of the official recruiters for NSW health

http://www.profco.com/

Any agency I looked at said you would need 1 - 2 years experience so wasn't very hopeful. But got a phone call Monday from profco saying that Tamworth was recruiting 4 MH new grads. Did the telephone interview on Wednesday morning with the hospital, which went well despite driving down to London from Scotland for an interview with the priory which was later that day lol and woke up Thursday to a txt saying that we (gf had the same interview) has been successful

Best of luck and will keep you updated :)

Wow only qualified 2 weeks and already got 2 jobs!!! How was the interview? What do they specialise in? What Visa are you going on will they sponsor you to get permanent visa? Do you stay on with them after the year?

Sorry for all the questions, I think I may either head into CAMHS or EMI not sure yet!! Would be good to keep in touch so you could perhaps give me some pointers for when it's my turn.

Thanks for replying.

Tamworth has an acute ward, older adult ward and a community mental health team. It's in a rural area. They said during the interview than I will work for 4 months in all 3 as part of the New Grad program. After that they hope to offer us a job but we will be free to apply anywhere else in Australia / NZ. I want to eventually work in Forensic's I think.

Hi guys. My names ashley from glasgow. I'm young, single and seriously thinking about making a move to oz to work. I qualified in 2009 with my degree in psychiatric nursing. I have now nearly 2 years of working with addictions and social work regarding child protection cases behind me. I have no ties to stop me however the thought is naturally daunting. I've lived in perth, western oz for a few months back in 2009 and wasn't impressed. Beautiful place of course however i am a city chic and was told by backpackers whom i met in pubs in perth then i would like Melbourne better as it is more modern and cosmopolitan. Is this the case? Would love to hear from folk. Thanks

Hi all. I was hoping someone could give me some advice. I am a qualified Mental Health Nurse. I have been away from the UK for a while now and I will be returning. However, I was looking at the NHS Scotland job site and I worked out that Nursing Assistants in mental health are only getting 2 pounds less than a registered nurse. Don't get me wrong they are absolutely worth their weight in gold. But I was thinking I don't know if the stress of being an RN is worth the 2 pounds (I'll only be part time so looking at about 40 quid a week). I love my job but have had many sleepless nights and stress caused by it. Does anyone have any advice or knowledge on it? Thanks muchly
