NURSES - Moving to Australia

It's good to hear something is moving! My application was accepted as complete on 6/2/14! AHPRA didn't ask me for it, but asked uni to send confirmation of new criteria, which they did last month, but no news yet!

Scary times after how hard we've worked, and the fortune we've paid to get our PR visas!

All the best.

Hello!!!!!!

Ok so...my application was first sent and received in Dec '13, money taken Jan '14, since then I have been constantly emailing them to see where they are up to etc. firstly in Feb I was informed I needed to provide proof that the Justice of the peace whom certified my docs was an actual JoP (don't ask), so I simply had an email sent from someone who worked at the courts, they then informed me that my application had then been passed onto the next stage and had passed the certification stage...so I thought happy days, we're getting somewhere. How wrong was I...

Beginning of April was the next time I heard from them, the dreaded email requiring criteria 2,3,6 & 8

Criteria 2 - the NMC are fully aware of AHPRA's new process, simply email the verifications email (like we've done previously) and ask them for this, I attached a copy of the official AHPRA letter they want signing also.

Criteria 3 - My Uni were also fully aware so were more than happy to simply post their letter version.

Criteria 6 - I had already had an official transcript copied and certified from my degree, I also paid £100 to my Uni to have a detailed theory/practical hour breakdown produced and posted. This is not enough. They've emailed last week asking for more. I contacted Uni who have said that no one else applying through this new process has requested this info before (I attached their email to them). They did some digging around and were thankfully able to get a course specification that they had on record. This was posted.

Criteria 8 - Uni were also aware of this criteria and were able to include whatever information they had and this was posted.

(For the extra Uni bits I had to pay £35 inc. signed post)

I received an email yesterday..."it would be advisable to contact your university and clarify that if the documentation they have sent is all that they have pertaining criteria 6 (a course outline). The document they have sent is a program specification for the course, which is helpful, however a course outline usually involves a detailed outline of each subject/module in the course. If this cannot be provided then please let me know in writing and I will proceed on the information provided once criteria 3 is received from the NMC."

Since then I have emailed Uni who have said they literally cannot think of anything else that they can provide as everything on record has been sent to them. I only qualified in 2011 so everything available on record will have been sent.

i've emailed AHPRA back and just said I am completely at a loss now and have no where else to turn, everyone in the UK has been so helpful and fast trying to help my application along and it feels as if they're just asking for silly little things now. I qualified and gained a first class degree with honours in Liverpool...I have paid a bloody fortune and I am stressed up to the eyeballs too much to give up now haha! I just hope that the end is near!

if anyone has had any recent breakthroughs or good news....pleeeeeease let us know!

Hey guys, new to this but i've been reading for a long time! I'm nearly there with APHRA, i just need to get my documents notarized. Anyone from the UK; i've been quoted £125-150 to get 20 documents and a signed declaration that I have studied in English. Does this seem reasonable or are there any tricks of the trade? I've tried my local court but they charged £25 per document. :( How about magistrates, are they allowed? I have a friend who is one...

I paid about £60 for mine in Birmingham but I've heard others have paid a lot more. I believe it has to be a notary public or Justice of the peace. Good luck!

Hello All, just poste this separate but thought I may get more reply's here

I'm still training so although I'm not in a position to apply for visa, I have another year left I was wondering if anyone can give some advice on the job situation for paediatric only trained nurses?

I know there is a new children hospital being built in Brisbane, is this a new one running alongside the others so plenty of job opportunities coming up? or are the other two closing and merging into the new one so I expect more internal transfers than new openings?

I'm planning my reccie next year so have to get this right as I dont want to drag 3 children to an area for a reccie where I may not be able to gain employment in? I'm not planning on coming till I have the 12 months experience and will be on a permanent visa hopefully by then. I am also considering my elective, my heart is in Neonates but what are the job opportunities like for this for paed nurses? , am I better off getting some general ward experience which means probably changing my elective which is at my local NICU?

Lastly I've just gone through some old treads and there was a reply to someone about not getting Qld registration if only paed trained?? this is news to me and throwing me in a panic. Do queensland only recognise Adult/child trained nurses?

Thank you -

All countries assess overseas nurses on the criteria expected of their own nursing education. Up to now Australian nursing board appeared to excepte any curriculum from any school and it also seemed from most countries.

In the past few months AHPRA have brought in new criteria which no one seems to know as yet if the specialised courses that the UK nurses are educated will be acceptable as they do not compare to the general criteria of the Australian degree, so no one hss been given positive assessment since against new criteria no one has been rejected from the UK. Many EU nurses have been given negative assessments so far.

It's so frustrating isn't it!!?

I sent my application end of January 2014, received notification and payment was taken second week of Feb (just after the changes were brought in), and since then I've had several requests for further information to cover the new criteria. My University have been extremely helpful and prompt with all of this.

When I received an email from AHPRA requesting a more detailed course outline and module breakdown, my University were also unsure what more information they could provide. I emailed my caseworker and asked for an example of the information, and she forwarded someone else's transcript (not even bothered to anonymise it though, has all her personal details, DOB, grades etc..... don't think data protection exists in Aus) Anyway, I forwarded this to Uni, they sorted me one out and sent it straight off. I can send you the transcript if you think it might be helpful to show your University?

The latest communication I've had with them was to confirm that the transcript was added to my file, and that my application was forwarded on to the next assessment level. (might sound familiar as I am the fiancée of TWC who has posted previously).

So I'm not holding my breath on hearing anything soon, the only way to get info out of AHPRA is to pester, they don't volunteer anything.

All the best, we'll all get there eventually, and then all this stress will be a distant memory!!

Hi Shaun,

there's plenty of us have had requests, and sent information on the new criteria, we're waiting to hear of anyone actually getting registered, I had a response a couple of weeks after sending my docs, saying application complete, and that my application will now be considered further, that was 3 months ago tomorrow! Arghhh!

Hope all goes smoothly for you.

All the best!

The timeline in general is bordering on the ridiculous. Perhaps a group letter to the Australian Consulate in London (Alexander Downer I believe), explaining that many of you are paying out a large amount of money and five or six months later, you have no result, could help your case(s).

Hi,

I have just sent off my application for nursing registration with AHPRA, do I need to wait to be registered with them before I can start applying for jobs?

Thanks, Jo

I had my documents certified for about £25 last year at magistrates court in nottingham, and the price wasn't affected by the number of documents I had certified. I've only just sent my application, but I know others that have done the same thing and are now registered.

Hope this helps.

Same as Australian nurse applying in UK, would they have a lookin if not registered ? will have positive assessment/how long.!! far to unpredictable for employer unless you have hard to find specialised experience an employer is finding hard to employ a local.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience or knows anyone who has, of moving out as a newly qualified nurse or midwife? I have been told it is possible to start the process of registration, visas etc whilst still studying, but I don't think AHPRA will process your application untill fully qualified, but in the meantime can I be doing anything else to help speed up the process does anyone know? I'm thinking rather than do it all in one go at the end... any information or advice would be welcome!x

Hi people.

Looking for some advice on registering with AHPRA. I am looking to move to Perth however there is currently a hold on recruitment for general medical nurses there. I have been advised by WA DoH to start the application for registration though as it is lengthy. I have been told by a friend that I can't be registered on UK and Oz registers so I don't know what to do :/ Don't wanna be left high and dry! Any advice welcome.

Many thanks x

You can gather what papers are required and available to you at this time and have them duly authorised but as for applying for visas and registration with ahpra this you may need to do at the 'end' same as a local. There are plenty of uk nurses over here with both uk and AHPRA rego's "just in case"

I was in exactly the same boat oz2014. My uni provided a statement of NMC standards of education which includes medicines management and standards for registered nurses for criteria 8. They seemed to know all about it, and said that's what they had provided for other recent students and which was accepted! Mine has been sent and has been accepted also so give it a whirl! And just attach the relevant new AHPRA paperwork for them to complete for criteria 2. For criteria 6 they provided a programme specification for when I studied, they weren't totally happy with it, but uni said there's literally nothing else they can provide and AHPRA have since said what I have sent is fine and they will proceed.

Good Luck! If you need any info give us a shout or just bombard the direct contact email that is on your letter, that's what I do, they must be sick of me, but needs must!! ;)

THIS ^^^^^^^

AHPRA told us something new every time we emailed the case worker (every week or so) so it's definitely worth just asking how your application's going, I was, and still am of the impression that if you pester them enough they'll get on with it quicker. They are very good at replying within a couple of days and at the very least it puts your mind at rest!

Hi Lilmiss,

Do you now have your registration? Desperate to hear someone somewhere has got through the new process? Feels like we are all in limbo!

All the best.
