UK Passport Renewal Photo from Australia Post - shoulders and upper body

Hi all,

Has anyone used Australia Post to take their UK passport photo? I've just uploaded the digital photo that they took of me and they obviously did it specifically for UK. However, the UK guidance says that you should have your head/shoulders/upper body showing in the photo and that it will be 'cropped later'. The photo Australia Post sent me is closer up and doesn't have my shoulders/upper body showing - it's as if they are already sending me the cropped one.

With current turnaround times of 'up to 10 weeks' I need the passport in that time so I don't want to risk a photo rejection.

Has anyone had experience with submitting a cropped photo - accepted or rejected?

Thanks, much appreciated.

Should be fine as Auspost do them all the time. I have renewed passport twice from Aus - first time was a cropped photo from the post office, second time was a mobile phone pic

The trick we found was to stand a couple of feet away from the wall, and you get less shadow. The website is pretty good and gives a good indication of how good the photo is. Turn around from the UK was only about three weeks.

Yes, when in Auspost just specify that you need passport photographs that meet UK passport requirements. That is what I did and I had no issues renewing my UK passport from Australia.

Me too.  In fact I got both my passports renewed around the same time, and I got both the British and Australian photos done at the same place,.  Then I had to be careful not to mix them up!

I had my original photo done through Australia Post but checking on line it was not rated well. Not great attempting it myself either. Ended up going to a pro in passport photos and rated perfectly under British passport guidelines. I thought time and cost to much to risk rejection and hence happy with result.

Hi. I am in the very same boat. Got one set done at Aus Post and was very cropped. So I went to another Aus Post nearby a month later after also reading head and shoulders are required and after seeing the sample photos. The 2nd AusPost said their camera settings for passport photos are all set and are specifically for Aussie passport settings. They advised they could not alter settings to show shoulders. So I went to a specialist camera shop who also do passport photos, clearly stating I needed head and shoulders for the UK. Same thing again! A very cropped photo. I expressed concern and the camera guy in shop said he'd checked requirements and that this was okay for UK. But like you it's not showing head and shoulders and I have concerns of delays and wasting money. I have no bare white wall at home and light isn't good to take one on my mobile. Just wondered how you went and whether you re-did your pic?
