5 Years Once Visa Granted?

Hi guys.

My husband already has his skills assessment and we are looking to apply for the Visa in the next 12 months. I know that to validate it you have to visit within 12 months but am I right in thinking that you then have 5 years to actually move there? We are due a baby any day now so wouldn't really be in a position to actually relocate for a couple of years at least.

Thanks in advance :)

Thanks for everyone's confirmation.. I was sure that's what the deal was but just wanted to check.

And it's our choice to delay it. If we're going to be moving half way around the world we want to give the families a little bit of time with their grandchild before we whisk them away.

As above but not sure why having a baby would delay you for years.  Many people migrate with babies.

We moved with a 3 month old. With regards to spending time with the grandchild, it would be harder to take the latter away once they are older and have made attachments.

Do check how long your skills assessment is valid for if you are delaying applying for the visa and also be aware that occupations can be removed from the lists at any time.  If you're in a position to apply now then I wouldn't delay.  We've seen on the forum how people have been effected by the 457 visa changes for example.
