Hey Sue,

If your 186 PR visa has been granted, then yes, you can leave your job and look for something else. For the visa application you had to have the intention of working in the position for two years, but there is nothing stopping you from leaving if circumstances change.

All the best!!

hey Dear

thank you so much for the reply , yes i got 186PR 5 month ago 。so it means i can leave or my boss changed it wont affect my PR right ?

I would suggest you check with your Migration Agent.

My 457 expired in January 2017 - since then I have been transitioned onto BVA and now I am on BVB until mid-september to travel.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the late update - we had our CO assigned on July 26th. CO requested for a few additional documents (A couple of declaration forms, letter from employer confirming that the job promotion doesn't change the job role significantly etc.). The best part is, I followed @jess6 's advice and applied for our new AFP couple days before the CO was assigned as the old ones had expired and guess what? CO did ask for it and we had it ready to go (best feeling ever! Ha Ha).

So, anyway, fingers crossed and waiting for a positive outcome now.

Guys who've received your PR recently-  how long did it take for the CO to give an outcome?

Thanks,

Sansha

Ahoy there guys & gals,

Just a super quick one, and would really appreciate the help. My partner and I applied for 186 DE in April this year, and I'm actually on a 457 visa which doesn't expire until June of 2018....now my partner has to go back to Spain tomorrow for an emergency. Are we technically still on that 457 with no travel limitations? or are we on a bridging visa A the moment we submit our application? Tried calling the department and I got an unsure 'yeah...should be fine' which didn't give me too much confidence!!

Again, really grateful for any reply!

I'm an April 2017 applicant too....technically, they should start looking at them in the next month if they are to keep their current rate up.....BUT, and its a big but, they are so unpredictable, that honestly, with their timeframes in mind, I've put my own approval window from September 2017, to March 2018......and hoping really for an answer before christmas, as I had to submit a 'change of circumstances form' which I suspect will knock our application being opened back a while (case officer will look at the pile of applications and do the easier ones first to keep up the numbers, but that is just a personal opinion, no basis in fact).

The wait is a real killer, even if you enjoy your job and hope to be in it for 20 years!

Hey @Melanie GW - Welcome and congrats on lodging your PR sponsorship! Sounds like your 457 journey was pretty smooth and now you have PR in your sight which is amazing and doesn't always happen for a lot of 457 holders. It took us 3 x 457's and 5 years before we could apply for PR due to redundancies but we go there and its an amazing feeling!

We got ours last year and were prepared for a long wait 6-9 months which they were saying but for some reason it took 3 months and 2 days from submission to approval - I have no idea why, maybe luck was on our side OR they picked up the wrong file - All i know is that feeling of PR granted is the best!

Stay strong!!!!!

Congrats on your PR that is great!

It's great that yours only took just over 3 months, and we have some friends who put their application in 2 weeks before ours and got it after about 9 -10 weeks! think that is why we are all so frustrated with immigration because there doesn't seem to be any sense in the way they carry out the applications - some get it quite quickly whilst others have to wait.

Oh well just have to be patient!

Welcome to the waiting game. We all need to keep each other’s spirits up. I've been waiting since Dec 2016. Not as long as others. But the waiting is really starting to get to me. I've become addicted to this forum and my Immi account. Made the mistake of starting from the first page and found on page 17 some people getting granted within 11 weeks! Happy for them but I’m now bordering on the line of being bitter :( Poor me syndrome! Hate that. Anyway, best of luck with yours and keep us updated. I see some from March are approved so you never know you could be one of the lucky groups and have it granted real soon. Best of luck.

No it's not 'poor me syndrome', it's just so hard having to wait and it is rubbish!

I'm sure yours is on its way soon

Good luck

Congrats on submitting and good luck :)

Personally not coping well anymore with that wait to be frank especially since mid-January 2017 when I got transitioned through bridging visa.

It's rubbish, isn't it! I feel glad that I'm not alone in this waiting game, but at the same time, I feel a bit cheesed off that we all have to wait for such a long time, especially for the applications that were put in several months ago.

Good luck!

No haven't received any email yet. Just says status  'received'  on immi-account. We used an agent to submit our application.

Good luck with your application.

Don't be too hard on yourself.

At this stage, I really don't care what people say and if they need to be hypocritical about it to feel they live in a fair world.

I had enough examples around me to confidently say that this is a pretty poor, economically inefficient and unfair process. Period.

So allow yourself to feel frustrated, bitter or jealous if that helps :) Don't swallow your feelings, they are just emotions that need to get out.

As long as you are not hurting anybody, there is no reason to hurt yourself either.

So true, thank heavens for this forum/self-help group! :)
