Last NYE we went to the harbour party in Luna Park, I think the tickets were $70 odd dollars. View of the bridge was amazing - you can also go on the rides and there was a huge dance tent which was open till around 2 - 3 AM. Queue's for drinks were non-existent pretty much and the drinks were quite reasonably priced.

Hoping to go back there this year - but may pay abit more and get unlimited beer all night :)

Half the time im sleeping because I always end up with the flu at new year.

More likely to be sunburnt at NYE in Sydney. Or passed out asleep from too much "afternoon delight"!

Having said that, Christmas 2013 I got bad flu. Totally healthy all winter then come down with flu in summer.

If you don't want to face the crowds and fireworks, then there are so many other choices and many of them free.

I usually fine all summer and then comes the flu right after xmas. I think I got the cold at xmas last year and I was out for new year and ended up sooooooo bad. It put me off touching drink at all and I actually still havent had a proper drink since new year.

haha afternoon delight - doubt it!!

That sounds cheap. I never go near the city on nye usually. Waiting all day for 20 Min of fireworks was never my idea of fun.

I know what you mean. I was so lucky to be in Sydney years ago, when it was possible to find "secret" vantage points, like the little park at the end of Point Piper, or the top of the Defence Car Park at Woolloomoolloo, where you could rock up just before midnight and get a fabulous view of the fireworks, without having to stand on tiptoe to see over crowds. They've all been discovered now and are packed like everywhere else!

Actually you may be right - maybe it was $140 (so roughly £70..) I'd still highly reccomend it :)

Every year, as I said, I think about trying to get a ticket for Neilsen Park because I love it there.

They had fireworks at 9pm in Coogee. I was at Bronte dawdling after a swim and saw lights in sky but did not know what it was until I passed crowds leaving Clovelly. If I'm here on NYE I might go to Clovelly to watch them (Thinking of cruise over Xmas and New Year.)

I watched the fireworks only twice from a park near Waverton and we just walked down before they started. No way would I wait all day to see them.

I used to work at Garden Island Dockyard, and whilst there were some New Year's Eves when I went down there for an 'exclusive' view, for some reason, in other years, we just joined the masses. I still don't understand that because working at GID meant there were never many people there, and you had brilliant views, and no problem finding toilets.

I have made pathetic attempts to watch the fireworks from Surry Hills, once going to the top of the Northcott where my friend Alex lives, but it's still an obstructed view. I just don't like crowds and queues, and I would not even do it for 'The Second Coming.'

I haven't read all of the thread. However, I have stayed at this hostel! It was about 5 years ago now. It was nice and clean, but it had no atmosphere at all. Terrible if you wanted to meet people.

Maybe you were just unlucky? When I was in there looking around the reception area, I heard one of the clerks telling a girl checking in about a free BBQ that night. I guess it depends too, on your room mates, whether you make any friends.

Stacey, Ive forgotten do you do bar ork?

unfortunately bar work was something I never got around to doing :( I asked for the experience at the hotel in the Lake District but they only opened that bar to go in and get someone a glass of wine. They never actually had it open properly. Im doing a bar skills course as part of my package, it's just a days course but it might help a bit

How does that work Stacey? Are you coming out with a group from UK?

I was speaking to a pub manager last night and he says you'll have no problem getting a job if you have decent attitude.uploadfromtaptalk1438959341632.jpg

Yeah most of them are from manchester, the rest are from further South. Im meeting them in manchester on the bank holiday at the end of the month. I got chatting to one of them on facebook and they asked did I want added to their group chat. Next thing I was booked on the same package as them. There's around 7 or 8 of us I think and a few are meeting us after it too. There will also be other people who we don't know but the only people who are on it so far are a guy and his girlfriend

Royal Exhibition Hotel, " Gaming" refers to looking after the pokice machines (fruit machines) which is where most pubs make their money.

Yeah someone else told me to get that licence and that some of the big bars and casinos take backpackers

You will definitely need a RSA to work in the casino. Basically anywhere that serves alcohol will require you to have one.

And if you want to work in a casino you may also needed a RSG too (Responsible Service of Gambling certificate)
