Wake Up Hostel in Sydney (Where Stacey is staying?)

unfortunately bar work was something I never got around to doing :( I asked for the experience at the hotel in the Lake District but they only opened that bar to go in and get someone a glass of wine. They never actually had it open properly. Im doing a bar skills course as part of my package, it's just a days course but it might help a bit

You'd probably need an Aus certificate in it to show you've taken a course in it :cute:

You'll be fine work wise I am sure. On a WHV as I am sure you know, don't expect to land a permanent full time job sort of thing and just enjoy the whole experience for what it is :) Travel round, find work to ensure you keep your funds topped up and are not dipping into savings too much. Get your regional work out the way early on IMHO. Then you can sit back and relax knowing you've got the second year if you want it. Then you can perhaps look at finding a job for 3-6 months in one place if you wanted and really getting to know a city/place better than if you were just there for a few days passing through.

We know someone who started off in Adelaide and spent a month here getting over jet lag and finding their feet before heading down to Kangaroo Island to do their regional work and loved it there. Met someone else travelling in the hostel here and so they went to the island together. Then they headed on down to Melbourne and haven't looked back, having a blast. Met up with their friend elsewhere later on iirc.

You will definitely need a RSA to work in the casino. Basically anywhere that serves alcohol will require you to have one.

And if you want to work in a casino you may also needed a RSG too (Responsible Service of Gambling certificate)

I did not know about that one, but do you need it for pub and club pokie rooms? I guess I can Google that.

I'd forgotten about clubs as opposed to pubs too, I don't know why, as they probably employ more people than pubs.

Come to think of it, I was in the Cruising Yacht Club in Rushcutters Bay a few months ago, and the barmaid who served me was on a WHV.

So remember to consider the clubs Stacey. Some are as small as a pub, like Double Bay 18 Ft Sailing club, which I'm a member of, and others, like Revesby Workers, which I used to be a member of, are the size of Cruise Ships, or Vegas casino hotels. I m not joking!

Campbeltown is a dive hole , MacArthur slightly better, but only just.

not places I would look at living if I moved there

Some sensational properties in Campbeltown, just need to leave the shopping centre(s)

I don't mind Campbelltown centre which actually has some fine old sandstone terraces dating back to early 19th Century. I noticed an old colonial mansion just off main St too. Plus a big new development of homes that I rather liked. Since my brother has moved to Mt Annan, Im gradually getting to know it better, despite 60km drive.

I always liked Camden, and it's a revelation seeing all the new developments and roads.

People who are brought up there usually stay there. It's there home. I overcame many of my Westie prejudices when I worked at Penrith and got to know that area.

I like Camden too. I remember when it was a little town well separated from Sydney. Not any more.

Maybe you were just unlucky? When I was in there looking around the reception area, I heard one of the clerks telling a girl checking in about a free BBQ that night. I guess it depends too, on your room mates, whether you make any friends.

One of the problems was that I stayed there in winter, so it was nowhere near full and there weren't many people about at all.
