zoedan24
We lived there for 2 years and moved to brisbane as we didn't like it. It's nice for a while but then you start to feel a little iscolated. 2 hours for a day out down the coast and 2 hours back. Had a friend who felt the same who is now on the Sunshine Coast. They had a 1 year old and we are both young 25 and 27 with no children. Saying that, there are people who do like it, it had everything there you will need eg shopping centres and parks but apart from that there's not much going for it. Just depends what you want from the move.
paul1977
I spent almost A year in queensland, drove through it a couple of times.. My advice is don't do it.. Tina2
Hi folks Just looking for some info and opinions on Toowoomba please? Were currently in North Lakes and hubby has been contacted about a job in Toowoomba??? Hi Kelly Well we live here. Some hate it simple as that, to cold no nightlife are the main complaints, yet Toowoomba is rated as 3rd for family friendly cities/towns in Qld and 1st for Job creation. It WAS a sleepy country town with little or nothing happening, BUT that is not the case any more. A new Freeway will be going in starting end of this year making the trip to Brisbane between 1.5 and 2 hours depending on where in Brisbane you are heading. It has fantastic schools and heaps of them, beautiful parks and gardens, shopping was very hit and mis but again that is changing with a 500 million $ up grade to grand central shopping center. The weather is lovely, very late autumn yet it is 22 outside blue sky and sun. We dont get the humidity Brisbane gets. We are 25 minuets out of Toowoomba and dont get the heavy rain Toowoomba city gets. It is still a country area, had kids at the door last night fund raising for there school, in school uniform and "immaculate" and polite and curtious (state school kids by the way) Highfields is the fastes growing suburb in Qld. The new Railway Precinct is well underway, it will have residential areas, parks, and coffee shops. There are great markets especially PCYC markets on Sunday where you can buy fruit and veg direct from the farmers. No we dont have a beach but not something I am into and as I say Brisbane is not far away. Oh excellant medical services and plenty of public and private hospitals. At the moment the traffic can be a nightmare at peak times but that will all change when the freeway goes in and the trucks no longer come through, the new freeway will also cut out the need to use the range crossing with is just horrid. Cost of houseing is very reasonable. Any specific questions happy to help.
Tina2
Kelly this might help http://www.whereis.com/search-results?query=Toowoomba%20QLD%204350&bounds=-9.800000000000407%2C96.59999999999701%2C-43.699999999999854%2C159.00000000000298&paginationRequestPage=1 You can click on anything of the list on the left and it will highlight it on the map. Southside around middle ridge is popular as that is where most of the main shops are but more expencive than the north side which is now expanding rapidly (Highfields area) If you click on directions on the map you can entre the suburb your OH will work in and any other suburb and it gives you directions and time of travel then you can ad in shops and schools for example. http://www.realestate.com.au is best to find homes to rent or buy. Paul1Perth
I've worked close to Toowoomba a lot and stay there when we are working out that way. It's OK for a few days stay, they have a decent leisure centre and a few good pubs and restaurants, that's about it. Don't know what the youngsters do? Hang around on the street and when they get their driving licence, drive up and down the main street seems to be the thing to do. One decent place to stay in the Central apartments. I've tried the hotel next door and it's average. When I work there for a few weeks and have the weekends where we don't work, I travel down to the Gold Coast for the weekend and stay at the Crown Plaza. Saves the company money as it costs less to stay there than the Central Appts and there is heaps to do for me. I would just move a bit closer to Brisbane rather than move to Toowoomba Kelly. It can be very cold at this time of year too.
Tina2
Yes well I guess 22c in late Autumn can be quite cold compared to the blistering heat of Perth that can get to 45c in summer not to mention the wild fires. As for nothing happening in Toowoomba hum what about http://www.toowoombarc.qld.gov.au/our-region/transport/toowoomba-bypass http://www.toowoombarc.qld.gov.au/our-region/major-projects/library-facilities-strategy/9303-new-toowoomba-city-library http://www.toowoombarc.qld.gov.au/our-region/major-projects/library-facilities-strategy/9597-charlton-sports-precinct https://www.kloud9ine.com.au http://www.toowoombarc.qld.gov.au/our-region/major-projects/library-facilities-strategy/9303-new-toowoomba-city-library http://www.toowoombaopenhouse.com.au/empire-theatre-armitage-centre.html http://www.couriermail.com.au/business/shopping-in-queensland-grand-central-to-double-in-size-with-500-million-redevelopment/story-fnihsps3-1227120395230 http://www.toowoombarc.qld.gov.au/planning-and-building/planning-scheme/11022-toowoomba-railway-parklands Just a few things to consider. No we don't have or want a casino, or pubs and clubs open all night with people being attacked by drunken idiots. As has been said it is not for everyone, it depends on what you are use to and what you are looking for, but I do tire of Toowoomba continually being made out to be some hick bush town. Many families are moving here and loving it and many grateful for the opportunity it offers to find employment. Compared to Melbourne or Sydney of course there is no comparison, but then there is no comparison in house prices either, inner Sydney average $900,000, Toowoomba average $450,000 and that is on around 1/2 acre, compared to a postage size block in Sydney or Melbourne, unless of course you want to move an hour out of the city in which case you loose all the facilities people talk about unless you travel to the city. Tina2
House prices are cheap out there for the reason your so isolated , it's no sydney or Melbourne.. Trust me I made it clear that there is no comparison to Sydney or Melbourne. As for Isolated 2 hours tops to Brisbane, 1 hours from Ipswich I would not class that as "isolated" We have a Bunnings LOL and a second about to be built and if there is a Bunnings there is potential trust me. Bunnings are now classing themselves as "Property Developers" As they pick up cheapish land, build and then in 3 or 4 years sell make a decent profit and build a new store up the road a few kms. We have all the major stores like Harvey Norman, Target, Coles, Aldi, Woolworths, ect and many smaller shopping centres (where it is easy to park ! ) unlike Sydney or Melbourne. As I keep saying it's not for everyone but dont knock it and make it out to be something it is not. Many people on here complain Perth is isolated as it is so far from other capital cities, but again depends on your view point. All places have good and not so good things. We do driving holidays covering 5000 in 10 days, just what you do in Aus. Of course you would understand with Mackey being SO ISOLATED and 4 hours from Townsville LOL. BTW LOVE Mackay ! Such lovely beaches.

Tina2
A 2 hour drive to the next town is a 2 hour drive wherever your are in the world But its NOT 2 hours to the next town just to Brisbane. In between there are lots of small townships like Gatton that has a Uni Campus, Helidon Spar, Plainlands, Lockyer Valley to name a few, and then there is Ipswich with a population of approx 190,000, an hour from Brisbane and an hour from Toowoomba. So is Ipswich isolated as well in your book ? What makes a place not isolated ? 10 minuets on the bus from the center of a capital city ? Nice if you can afford it (for some) I personally would hate it, but that is what makes life interesting we all like different things.
