  2. HI everyone - i hope your all well I am looking at the 804 or 103 visa for my parents to join us in Brisbane - they are currently in Edinburgh. Can they come here on a tourist visa and apply whilst here, and the apply for a bridging visa whilst waiting or do they have to return to the UK? The contributory visa is not viable due to the cost for them - many thanks
  3. weve been here 3 years. Hubby has worked for the same employer since we got here never had an issue. My employers are great aswell. They do like to have a bit of a laugh and a joke at your expense but its kind of like an initiation into the lifestyle i found. As for commuting, i personally would not live on the gold coast and commute to the city but people definately do it. Its far too long and every night you hear of something on the radio that causes hold ups. We live North side and for your age, no kids and commute to the city i stronlgy recommend you look round the recliffe peninsula, we love it there its beautiful. Great cafe and restaurant strip, beautiful beaches for dog walking, fanatstic sunday markets, laid back lifestyle, new train link to open soon and all you need. 40 min up to the sunny coast, 40 min to the city and about 1.5hrs to surfers. We find the working hours here very long, be prepared to work hard during the week. Its dark by the time we get home, but that doesnt stop us throwing something on the BBQ with a bit salad most nights. Mozzies are absolutely an issue but if you prepare your home accordingly you can deal with them. We love nothing more on the weekends then jumping on the car and going for a drive to find new places, or into the city atleast once a month to try a new food place. A perfect Sunday for me if i lived at Redcliffe would be to walk through the markets, grab a coffee pick up some fresh veggies, to have with our sunday BBQ roast. Life here is definately different to how we initially thought it would be and it has taken us a long time to settle, even now we have off days. We find making friends extremely difficult and has been our biggest hurdle without doubt. You will really only get a good feel once your here!

  9. Hi everyone, For all the old time members like myself we had a member on here from Brissy called Headstart Homestay. Hes not been on the page for a couple of years, but i wanted to let you know he passed away yesterday aged 42 after a week long battle after being hit head on in a motorbike accident last week on the Bruce Highway. It has truly made me realise today how short and cruel life can be. He was a good guy living his life, loving life and hes been taken too soon. RIP Dale

  16. Hi all, I just wanted to give an update especially to anyone waiting on a student visa. We lodged a paper application at Australia House on Monday and the case officer called my son Tuesday went over his application and the visa was granted by 12pm Tuesday lunch time. Bearing in mind hes a UK citizen, didnt require a medical and everything was in order in his application. They were calling to ensure that he is definately coming to live wtih me, i am financially responsible for him, and they also wanted to check that hes done some kind of work experience in the course hes chosen and also his plans at the end. He arrives Monday!! A very expensive way to get here and still with no guarantee of PR but none the less my boy will be here with us x:yes:
  17. Hi i felt the need to reply to this thread as iam currently going through this exact situation. My son turned 18 in feb and has NOW chosen to join us!!!! Yes im hitting my head against a brick wall in frustration at him! If only he had decided 6 mths ago my life would be soooooo much easier right now! Hence it is not! NOw our original visa was very complicated and i managed to do it myself but this time around it will take some considerable knowledge of migration and know how of loops and holes that exist so i have taken on Westly to sort this for us. And i can honestly say in about 3 days he came up with a strategy for us. Unfortunately due to being over 18 it is not the cheapest route, but it is a route none the less. I would certainly advise you give westly a call Goodluck Kelly
  18. yep i did think of the student route, but he would need a job to sponsor him at the end? it states aswell how much he must show he has per year to live on, but im not sure if they would accept me financially supporting him instead. I have had contact with a agent who thinks he has a way of getting him here so im just waiting on finding that out
  19. Hi Ali, yes we were. I went back on my own with the baby in April, and it took me about a week and a good chat from my mum to make me realise we are defo better off here for the forseeable future. I am still quite homesick but no where near as bad as i was before i went back. I think the visit was what i needed. Also we really have very few friends here and that has been desperately hard for me as im a very social person, so i miss friends alot. Ive slowly started to make some school mum friends the last month or so. Thats been a big reason why were so unsettled at times. Then last night my son dropped this bombshell!! I could have stranged him as they say for not doing this 4 months ago when he was still 17!!!
  20. im in the process of speaking with an agent just now who is checking every crevice of visas to see what we can do! If theres a way i will find it, im expecting however he will have to get a qualification of some kind and postpone this for a bit
  21. thankyou westley. i have emailed your company regards
  22. Hi I need recommendations for agents here in Aus please? I am in Brisbane and looking for someone to advise me on a visa for my son Thanks Kelly
  23. Yep hes desperate to come out yesterday so i think a whv will be the way to go! I just wish the visa was extended to 21, i don't many 18yr olds who can make that kind of decision but this serves him a good life lesson i suppose
  24. yep that is pretty much what i thought. I kept telling him make a decision before 18 but he wouldnt listen. He lives with his dad in the UK who i know has been in his ear.
