Today is expected to be the busiest day on Britain's roads so far this year as millions of people set off for their Easter break, a traffic information company has warned.

Trafficmaster predicts bank holiday getaway journeys mixed with commuter traffic today will lead to the heaviest congestion of the weekend.

As many as 16 million cars will be on the move over the holiday, with drivers from Northern Ireland the most likely to get behind the wheel and Scots the least likely to do so.

Not the british way mate, leave before 9am to sit in traffic for about four hours then spend an hour looking for parking, then you normally either get very wet or come home looking like a big old cooked lobster - happy days...

Its not always possible to leave the day before when you work and for us personally we did tend to try leaving at different times (although even this can be hard with little children) ,seems half of the country had the same idea.

If it wasn't for the 4 lanes, it could be the Bruce Highway on any weekday morning.

Hearing ya @Xenon4017, that is nasty at times eh ? Well lots of the time...........

We spent many a bank holiday in Abersoch, loved the place ,the downside was what is pictured above, lol, a 2hr journey could take around 5 hours each way and there was no getting around it.

Abersoch is lovely but the traffic in and out is shocking through summer, every bloody day is busy and by 11am all the car parks are full!

it used to be lovely, but it's too busy now. We used to go a lot when I was a child/teenager and it was great, but I don't like it much anymore just because it's too busy.

When my mum was small she and her friend used to take their ponies there on the train. Took three changes of train and all day to get to Pwllheli then they had to ride to Abersoch. I'd have loved doing that!

Yep, can relate to that. Set off today (albeit on public transport), day at London Zoo we thought. Forget that.....two hrs from ours to the Zoo (50 min journey) queue snaked around Regents Park! Ended up rowing around the boating lake for an hour instead . Got to love the UK bank holidays!

Strange that , just had a great week down in croyde bay .....lovely weather...great beach ...pubs .....genuinely a great place , a place that compares with anywhere ....4 days on the beach .

We had a 185 mile drive home today ,mostly m5 ...m42 ....we were home in 3 and a half hours, breakfast @ 8.30 ...on the road at 9 , home for 12.30 ...not one stoppage .

There is major restructuring , as the m5 and m42 are having the metal barriers taken out , and replaced with concrete sections ? ....we had 3 long stretches of 50 mile per hour limit , even then we had no delays .....
