Absolutely gutted! 70 points as an ICT project manager; rejected!

The email below doesn't look like I have any options at all.

Good luck to all of you who successfully move to Australia.

Thank you for your application for Victorian Government nomination under the 190 - Skilled Nominated visa scheme.

Following a review of your application, we regret to inform you that you have not been selected for visa nomination by the Victorian Government.

Your application for Victorian Government state nomination was reviewed individually and assessed with a focus on your ability to address a number of criteria, including:

your ability to meet the minimum eligibility criteria,

the demand for your particular skills and expertise, and your ability to find work in Victoria,

the suitability and transferability of your qualifications, skills and

experience – including any specialist capabilities – to the needs of Victoria’s labour market,

your ability and commitment to establishing yourself, and any dependents, in Victoria

the number of nomination applications received relative to the number of nomination places available for your occupation.

Victoria receives a high number of very strong applications for state nomination and only the very highest calibre candidates with the strongest skills, experience and opportunity for finding work in Victoria’s labour market are selected for Victorian state nomination.

The Victorian Government uses independent industry panels to provide advice on the suitability of applicants to Victoria’s labour market. These industry representatives also provide advice on the demand for individual applicants’ qualifications, skills and experience, and prospects for employment in Victoria.

While your application demonstrated your ability to meet the minimum eligibility requirements for Victorian state nomination, other applicants were able to more adequately demonstrate their suitability for employment in Victoria.

There are other visa pathways for highly skilled workers who want to live and work in Victoria and we encourage you to investigate other visa options on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) website: http://www.immi.gov.au.

We wish you all the best for your future endeavours.

Sorry to hear that

I am pretty sure South Australia have just added ICT Project Manager to their list of state sponsored occupations.

Was your 70 points including the 5 points from State Nomination?

If so, you would still have 65 points to apply for a 189 (rather than the 190).

I believe the processing time for 189 is pretty much the same as the 190 nowadays..

Hi Eddie, ICT PM isn't on the 189 list, so state sponsorship was my only viable option. WA & SA both have ICT PMs on their lists, but you need a job offer and we all know how difficult that would be! And yes, I have 65 points at the moment, although I'm 39 in July so I don't have all that much time to try something else. I've amended my EOI from specifying Victoria to any states, but I can't see that working.

I'm completely gutted and I'm not sure what plan B could be.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

If you already have done all of your document gathering etc and form filling... And can afford to..... I would suggest getting in touch with a mara agent for possible strategies... It likely wouldn't cost anywhere near as much as them going through the whole process with you and it may simply be a one off cost for advice on a plan of action x

** edited to add.....check SA SS again.......

I've just checked SA again....maybe there is some hope...???

I also looked and there doesn't seem to be 'special conditions ' attached for ICT project managers....and there is also medium availability.... Looking good to me..... good luck x

GezMeg, I applied for Victoria SS 190 for ICT BA. I got exactly the same reject message as you. As someone above said, they are being very selective.

I then applied to SA SS directly. At the same time, I updated my EOI to make sure I selected SA for SS (have to do this otherwise they will not consider you) Within a week (normal process early March said 2 weeks processing time..not sure how much it is now), I got the SA SS and got an invitation to apply for the visa. I am currently waiting for CO.

Note - SA doesn't require your CV however they do ask for you specify the reasons asto why you want to move to SA. I did some research and put 5-6 points together.

Best of luck.

Not impossible to get a role as an ICT PM in Perth from overseas - I got an IT Senior Management role from the UK.

Ajilon, Fujitsu & IBM would be worth trying, and the big resource companies - Rio Tinto, Woodside, BHP Billiton.

Actively use LinkedIn - upgrade your membership if you need to so you can in-mail people. I will private message you my name and you can connect to me which will give you access to a number of senior IT people in Perth. There are specific Australian groups you can join, again make connections with people, join in discussions, let people know you're out there :)

It is no different than looking for a job in the UK but you'll need to do it on steroids :)

There is no harm in looking at Jobserve Australia or Seek - my OH applied for a role off Seek and got it (actually got two offers whilst we were in the UK so turned down that one)

Think like a salesman - they don't need to know you need a visa when you first apply - get a .com email address and and Australian mobile number (you can buy sims on-line)

I'm not in Australia now so can't do much more to help you I'm afraid.

A member on here @Sustain was looking for PM's a while ago, it might be worth getting in touch?

Hi friends, Even my SS applicationw as rejected with the above reason for a Software tester job role. Not able to figure out what they are expecting or what they mean by their market conditions.Since Tester profile is not in the CSL list I have no other option but to wait until July when they reopen ACT.(currently it is closed).

Friends ,can anyone guide me here. Is there any good Aus agency who can guide us in this.

Hi Philipb...if you are referring to a Migration Agent when you say 'agency'....then see the post above yours....Westly (Wrussel) is a registered migration agent and a very good one at that with a good reputation. Im sure he would be more than happy to assess your situation.

There are also other agents on PIO with good reputations, just type 'migration agent recommendations' into the search bar.

All the best :biggrin:x
