Look for a bit of tlc. For a second time my husband was offered a job in sydney and it has fallen through how can we be so unlucky. I feel completely devestated for second time! Found it hard enough to full myself together a year ago but now life in the UK is so much worse for us and it seems like it is going to be so much harder

Just can't understand it..... this company head hunted my husband, offered him the role. Directors in sydney said we need you to speak to HR in NZ and she said this is the offer, I need to get the directors to put it in writing and we will come back to the following weekend. Then nothing it has been two weeks and we have sent a couple of email asking what the situation is but they have just ignored them. Its all so strange, obviously my husband has not got the job, but can't imagine why as they will not make contact.

They were always slow and getting information to us, but they never ignored emails before. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? I guess I just have to face for second time the dream has been taken from us again. So so Sad words cannot explain!

Thanks for reading this

Please please don't think the worst. Some employers are terrible. People leave you dangling all the time and emails are non existent. I'm one who likes to know what's happening, when and where, Aussies can be so laid back its terrible.

Hopefully they are just trying to work out the logistics and you will hear back soon

Thanks so much for you reply and support, I wish I could feel the same that they are just ironing out all the bits. I can't believe how emotional I am about this I said time I would not get caught up in it until we had everything sorted but have done, guess that is human nature. Surely if they wanted my husband their would be an email saying please bear with us we are trying to sort things out, the silent is our answer to what is happening! I Keep hoping there is still some hope, but the more days that pass the more I think not.

I had the same thing. Two jobs fell through. It turned out that it was actually the visa which was the issue, but the first one hadn't actually explained that properly to me. My job was so specialised it wasn't on any lists (but obviously wanted as I had two companies want to sponsor me without having met me).

I ended up coming over on a student visa, thinking that I would still get an rsms visa if I found a willing employer (at that time the immigration website just mentioned that it had to be a diploma level job, nothing about lists). I found a willing employer pretty much straight away. Spent a fair amount on an agent (after the last two I didn't want to take any risk). It was weeks before he finally told us that I couldn't even be sponsored for an rsms as my job wasn't on any lists).

It took a LONG time, but I did finally get pr 5.5 years after getting here. I don't know if I'll ever go back to my old profession.

Good luck. It could be nothing, but it sounds like it is. :-(

Don't panic just yet - as Kate says things can be so laid back. Our process from applying to interview was more than 6 months, then heard nothing for another 3 months, then had a second interview and heard nothing until the offer 2 months later! It could be that the person dealing with it has gone off sick or gone on holiday.

Hope it all works out - it can be very nerve-racking!

Hi Blosson 79, don't think it is the visa thing as proffession is on the list although I will check again, as that was last year and I know they change it all the time. this company has sponsored others from other countries successfully for similar roles, we haven't even started the visa process yet. If that was the case surely they would just say. the lack of contact is strange! after regular contact especially as we have asked them to let us know what is happening, and they ignored the emails. Could try again with other employers but don't think I could face all this emoitional roller coaster again, but it depends how much I want to go doesn't it. there is an age restriction with student visa isn't there, we did have that idea last year? Think we are too old now. my husband is computer specialist. Maybe we pick ourselves up and start applying for jobs again! and say third time lucky. Just so frustrating as they came to us about the job!

i will try and be patient but the no contact makes me think they are no longer interested just don't know why they can't say!

Maybe that's cause for hope. It doesn't take 2 seconds to say "F*** off". If they haven't done that then there's probably a reason.

My own theory? They've found someone else who they think might be a better fit, but they're negotiating over money. If it all falls through they'll come back to your husband as if nothing had happened.

No, you can get a student visa until your pretty old, but I wouldn't recommend it.

It really is a roller coaster. My jobs did the same though. All of a sudden quiet. The first one did phone me in the end, which was how come I didn't get all the details, I was too upset. I did get an email from the second one in the end.

Is there another email address you could try incase that person is off sick?

yeah I thought of that one too, but his job is so specialisted we would of seen it advertised. we have looked everywhere and there is nothing and no agencies have the role either. I think they maybe looking for more than one person. One thing I did think Is I know they have to advertise the role locally to prove they could not get anyone and that is what they are doing, but can't say why they would not just say! but in answer to your point takes two mins to say go away maybe they can't even be bothered to do that! but that for taking the time to post

Yes we tried another email last night, or via another source (linked in) which is the source they contacted my husband by they had originally been trying for weeks to contact him and kept trying why this is all so strange!

Please be patient don't do or say anything rash. My OH has just been headhunted too and it's taken 6 weeks to get the go ahead to hand his notice in and get a start date. It seems to take time here, we would not hear anything for weeks. My OH resisted the temptation to keep bugging them, but it was hard.

It's actually good to know that most Ozzie employers are this way - I got a job offer by email 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything for 1 week, emailed them again only to find out that the person that wants to employ me is on a 3-weeks vacation... But in the end she send me the formal job offer and promised to send me a contract "soon" (probably in a month...). I guess they are just not in a hurry like the rest of the world :)

What about using some old fashioned technology.

You could always phone them and say you are just touching base as you haven't heard from them for a while and are wondering where they are up to with your application and is there anything you need to supply to ensure there are not any hiccups on the way.

This happened to my OH but in the UK - hate to say but I think no news is bad news. My OH was headhunted also - they flew him for interview then they kept him hanging on for two months - whenever he rang they said one excuse after another then they rang up and said ok contract on its way - never appeared! He rang them up they just said sorry not doing it now! I would not email again as someone else said give them a call

why did your hubby say I am not doing it now when they said the contract was on the way? yes I did think about calling but the thing is we have sent a couple of emails now so would calling not look strange. Why don't they just say when it is not going to happen then? specially as they have put so much work into contacting him!

umm will certainly see what he says when he gets home, we can't use that excuse as we have emailed back and forth so "not having right email would look strange to say" my hubby is not the most confident on the phone so I don't think he will be keen especially as he is having to chase up. I think we really need to face facts if they wanted to employ him they would of been in touch before now. They said it would be following weekend, she has apologised so many time for the delay and said it has been one reason or another. then as I say its just gone silent all together.

At last! I was reading thinking "why on earth aren't you ringing?". This is the obvious next step as far as I can see, thy can't ignore you if you have them on the end of the line.

Personally, I have seen no evidence of recruitment taking forever in Australia and unfortunately in my experience a prospective employer going quiet rarely has a good ending. But you need to know. So ring.

Do you not ave any options, other than employer sponsored?
