190 VISA lodge in September 2013

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum and not sure if this is the right place to ask this question. Currently I am in the UK and am planning to apply for subclass 190 visa for myself and my partner. I have some rough understanding of the entire visa application process but don't know the complete details. I have 50 points at the moment, and I plan to appear for IELTS soon and score the remaining 10 points to reach 60.

I would like to understand if its possible to file a visa application on our own or is it advisable to hire an immigration consultant to get it done on your behalf? If the process is fairly simple and there are members in this forum who have applied themselves, please let me know. Else, if you suggest going to an immigration consultant is the best thing to do, I would appreciate if you can point me to some good ones.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the thread,

I have done this process myself and saved myself £2000.

I won't say it's totally simple, there is a lot of paperwork and process to get through, but as long as you read things carefully and have some patience, it's relatively straight forward.

You don't save any time by using an agent (despite what they may try and tell you) and the whole process is expensive enough, I don't think an agent is worth the money.

obviously, this is just my experience and opinion and it seems most people use an agent, so they will be better placed to tell you the benefits.

good luck with it all whichever route you decide to take!

Thanks for your quick response. Appreciate it.

Looking forward for some more advice on this process, before I finally make up my mind.

We've applied ourselves for the 190 Visa - so I agree with Sunshinebee. The whole process is reasonably straight forward once you've done your research. The process is really expensive as it is so for us saving money was important. So far we've spent $1300 on medicals, $8000 on 190 Visa, $500 skills assessment and another $500 on English tests.. plus another $250 on Police checks.. so adding agents fees on to this would have been a big expense. I imagine the agent will take some of the stress out of the process as they will lead you through and ensure you only submit the right information at the right time..

Rob - if you do well in your IELTS you can a get total of 20 Points. It's not that difficult if you're native speaker - but definitely worth googling IELTS to get some training material .. as it's more about understanding the exam conditions and writing under timed conditions..

I just logged in to check status and noticed that my son's medical status now states "No health examinations are required for this person for this visa subclass based on the information provided to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship."

does this mean his medical referral has now been processed???
