Seems like only loser is the person with the expired visa.yes the recession was partly to blame for that but by making us stay the recession has enabled us to have a very comfy life here. I had a good life in the UK, but I knew there was better. Everyday when I wake up to blue skies, sit outside, enjoy a dip in the pool, take the dogs a walk on the beach or river. Pinch myself that I'm so lucky to have this. And truely the best things in life are free. I just laugh at all the fake plastic people i meet in life who talk about making money. I made plenty of money from selling properties in the past but i never posted it on an internet forum. I also lost money because life is too short and i didn't want to keep property at the other side of the world. Such is life. I also earn considerably less money now than i did in the UK.
