How do you entertain your UK visitors?

We have family coming over next year, and just wondered what other poms do to entertain their pommy family and friends that visit them.

I've had a read of a few "what to do in Perth" threads, but it would be useful to know what are the biggest hits with your visitors.

Thanks.

Take them to all the tourist hotspots but make sure you don't go ott. Quiet days at home sitting in the garden are most appreciated by my visitors, we assume they want to run around but it is quite exhausting especially for the older ones. Don't forget they come to see you not just the country.

Top spots are

The river ( esplanade a bit of a pain during the redevelopment so try a different spot)

Kings Park

Your favourite beach

Swan Valley

Freo

Mandurah

Hillaries for fish and chips

One of the bigger parks, Whiteman or John Forrest maybe

York or Northam for a taste of history, Guildford is nice too and get to see some of the River

Yanchep or Two Rocks

Lancelin and Guilderton

The city bus tour

Depends on their interests and physical ability. The thing is to ask them before they come, and while they are over here. You might want to pack loads in so they see the maximum amount possible, but they might just want to relax at home and spend time with you.

If they want to see Australian wildlife, then Caversham, Perth zoo or Cahunu Wildlife Park. Penguin Island if it's the right time of year. Whale watching tour.

If they like sport, hire bikes or kayaks next to the causeway in Perth. Take them to sports event AFL, Rugby, Cricket, netball.

Shopping Perth central or maybe Karinyup.

Any of the beaches.

Freemantle Prison and markets.

Kings Park.

They can do Perth in a week or so. With a couple of the younger ones have paid for a tour to Exmouth five or six days half way during thier stay.

One lot of older folk my OH went to Sydney for four days with them. Depending on time of year have taken some down south. Plenty to occupy a week.

In Perth area

Rottnest Island

Penguin Island

Fremantle for a day and perhaps include prison

Perth Zoo take ferry from Perth to get there

Wildlife Park they are hold Koalas and pat Roos

Dinner overlooking ocean at Cottosloe

A cycle around the river if able/fittish etc

Kings Park obviously

for starters. Perth is limited for attractions and I feel most are outside the metro area. The North West...Ningallo Reef .and the like.

Obviously depending on tastes etc, but you can't fault the wine tours that operate from the city. Have a cheeky wine taster on the boat meandering up the river and then join a tour into the swan valley. Before the baby came along, it was a favourite thing of ours to do with our visitors. A good day out IMO.

We also do, Freo, Kings Park, the city, Whiteman park/zoo and that's dependant on the time of year - on a really hot day all the animals hide at the zoo! Whale watching tour is good fun.

Further afield is Lancelin and the Pinnacles. We have enjoyed Albany and the Porongrups too.

And even further is Exmouth, and you can incorporate some stops up the coastline on the way. It is a long old drive tho, but good fun if there is a few to share the driving. :)

Rottnest Island - love it! And we often frequent Point Walter, which is a spot on the river near Bicton. Most of the time you can walk right out along the sand bar and then have a coffee and if you have kids there's a great park there too. Heathcote reserve, great park and coffee shop and amazing river views from high on the hill. Fish and chips at Freo down at fisherman's wharf and a wander through the markets. Kings park. Matilda bay for a picnic. Boat / wine cruise. Really depends on the time of year and who the visitors are...

They've just come from Britain. How hard can it be ? just put them in the hot tub with a beer. Job done.

Exactly just show them some sun and a sandy beach with good views and they will be happy. A BBQ with some decent steak will win some hearts too.

We had my Dad over for 6 weeks in Feb/March and did quite a few things;

Mandurah (day & night)

Shoalwater/Rockingham (he has rellies there)

King’s Park

Burswood (day & night)

Pinnacles

Swan Valley tour

Hills tour

Wine cruise on Swan River

Freo

Rotto (day & night)

Hillary’s & beach

Couple of City days

Yanchep

Bunbury/Busselton/Yallingup/Mgt River

Adventure World

Cottesloe

Few days at beaches, Jindalee, Quinns, Mullaloo, Yanchep Lagoon

Guilderton/Moore River (his fave)

Days round the pool/BBQs

Couple of pub days

He also went a few places on the train, can’t remember where. Third time he’s been to Perth, he’s done a lot of those things before, not all mind. Last time he was here, he drove up to Monkey Mia (fair old journey). He’s a bit of a sun-worshiper so would have been happy with anything that got him away from the UK’s 11 and a half month winter.

Wow! Thanks for all of the ideas. As well as most of the above, I'm thinking that we might make a trip down to the Stirling Range, heading back via Albany and Margaret River. Or maybe a trip up north to Karijini, Kalbarri or the Kimberley. Exciting times!
