Guest
It's pointless as they base it on the exchange rate. One's filmed before 2009 think Oz is pretty cheap One's filmed 2010-2014 think oz is really expensive One's filmed last couple of years find them similar The next batch will find it expensive again as pound has tanked again post brexit Better finding your oz wage in dollars and looking at coles online etc
Marisawright
Having just returned from a year in the UK, I wouldn't worry about it. There are swings and roundabouts, but the cost of day-to-day living works out about the same. If you persist in buying exactly the same things you bought at home, it will be more expensive - but if you adapt to what's available locally it's not. Anyway, the difference in those costs pales into insignificance compared to the cost of housing (renting or buying) and that's the one you need to look at. If you're moving to Sydney from London or its commuter belt, you'll probably think it's OK. Moving from anywhere else in the UK, you'll find it very expensive. Not to hijack the thread but just curious - what part of Australia have you moved back to Marisa?
Marisawright
Not to hijack the thread but just curious - what part of Australia have you moved back to Marisa? We're in Melbourne, pretty much by accident! We were going to continue on to Hobart but my oh is enjoying Melbourne so much, I don't think it's going to happen. Lavers
Thanks for the replies. They were saying if you earn double in oz compared to your wage in the UK then you wont be far of. Would you say that is a fair reflection? I've looked at rental prices and it would be about 40 - 50% of my wage which works out similar to the UK. Also out of curiosity what benefits are you entitled to if any in oz? I've 2 daughters and only receive the standard child benefit in the UK. Thanks. Jbassi
HI, Moving to Melbourne from Vancouver. How much does a couple need to make a year to live comfortably? Rough estimates?
wandarri
Hi, we have now been here 2 years so pretty sorted out with a $300k mortgage and family of 2 kids 6 and 4. On $110k we live - we eat well hubby has company car though and we live close to city - there is enough money to pay for the everyday things but not enough to have the $6 - $10k required for a holiday to Bali each year. We don't buy many clothes (got loads on ebay in the uk before we left as they are cheap 2nd hand there) and don't spend money on facials massages etc. I have a 6 year old car CX7 nothing special but good family car - Personally to have a good life here and lots of good socialising etc one would need min $160k per ann. hope that helps
