Hi there, that is great knowing thanks. i am a nurse qualified for 7 years and currently work as a practice' nurse in a gp surgery. just sent off for my skills assessment. would be great to stay in general practice and don't really want to go back into the hospitals as i have 3 children. how do the medical centres operate? are they likely to sponsor a nurse in general practice? was considering sending cv to medical centres in the area of melbourne we are looking at, would you advise this? i know oz has practice nurses and the role is newer than in the uk. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks :notworthy:

Guest doralina
Hi Norry, My name is Teodora, I'm from Canada and just joined the forum today. I saw that u help nurses with all kind of issues. As I said, I live in Canada, Calgary, AB and intend to move to Sydney. I am a RN from backhome but, haven't got my licence here because, I have to go 4years to get a BSN and I don't wanna stay here anymore, just don't like it. Anyway, I would really appreciate if you can help me with any advice, what to do and how to do it, I mean moving there to work and live, even go to school if I have to. Somebody told me that I should find a sponsorship, others to apply for permanent residency so I can study and work but, I don't know what kind of visa I need. Please, if you can help me, or anybody else, do it. Thank you in advance.

Lynsey9
Hi Norry & Leigh, i am new to this site and was wondering if I could pick your brains with the process in each I need to follow in order to move to Australia. i am a qualified adult nurse and looking to move to Perth. We have 2 children aged 7 and 4 weeks old so need to be able to find a visa to cover us all. I have looked at applying for a visa however can not really afford this route so like you guys would want to find sponsorship. how do I go about this? I have emailed a couple of hospitals that said I need to be registered with the AHPRA prior to applying for jobs. Is this the route you went? I have started the application for registration with Australia and need to get my documents certified and write down my clinical/procedural skills on my Cv! I think I have got myself rather confused as I am reading posts on here saying that people are completing competent tests etc which i didnt think i had to do if getting sponsored but now am slightly unsure and then also would assume I would have to secure a job prior to applying for registration! I really hope you can help as I am very confused on the process. many thanks Lynsey

My husband, son and I are looking to emigrate to Melbourne as soon as I qualify. Is it a process that I can do straight away or do I need to gain experience? Any help would be appreciated on job opportunities, visa processes, registration processes, etc! I look forward to hearing from people soon. Thank you. Probably a good idea to start a new thread yourself as this one is very very old, and reading the first two pages of the thread, amazingly enough this has already been stated at least twice........... Do people post without reading information that has already been offered???

VERYSTORMY
To be honest, it is probably a bit early yet to be thinking about it. You will need to qualify and then get a few months experience. In that time, a lot can change - including the entire process. At the moment, you will need to get a few months experience and then start the registration process along side the immigration process as the former can take just as long as the later. You need to check all the criteria to ensure you are eligible, this includes points - you need a minimum of 60, age and health and character requirements. Do, also keep an eye on the Australian news at the job situation - nursing is not as easy to get work in, in some states as it once was and this could get either better or worse over the next year. There isn't a lot you can do in practical terms until you have qualified
