  1. I think the more difficult part is the emotional aspect of living in limbo. There are too many what ifs and could haves in this process. And then you end up getting emotionally invested in the country, living with the people you love and going back in the event nothing works out becomes an unthinkable option.
  2. Just curious to know - when you switch over from another parent visa to 143 - is your spot in the queue retained or is considered a new application altogether?
  3. So we got the 870 sponsorship approval late Aug this year. I'm about to lodge 870 applications for both my parents. Given they are not granting any temporary visas at the moment, I have a few questions I was hoping someone could help me with 1. Does the sponsorship approval expire and if it does, at what point does it expire? 2. If required to re-do the sponsorship application in the event that it does expire, can a sponsors' overseas income be used towards the litmus test for income? I.E. To meet the minimum income requirement for sponsors?
  4. I'd not be surprised if they are prioritizing offshore 143s from countries where covid is not as bad. Or is that considered against the law?
  5. Just realized this thing doesn't let me delete comments
  6. Sure - didn't think of that. Haha. Perhaps I'm just looking for something to change the perception so these visas could move just a tad quicker
  7. Quite agree on most points - the government research though - not sure if it also considers the amount of tax immigrants pay. On an average skilled immigrants / people with tertiary education pay higher than average taxes - This should be taken into consideration as well imho. The balance could still tilt in favor of not bringing in immigrant parents - but it needs to consider all factors before making a blanket declaration of all parents being a burden. A lot of partners from varied cultures also move to AU and do not ever contribute to the economy. But this is not factored in whilst deciding partner visa quotas.
  8. USA has a 8 - 12 months processing time for parents of citizens. Nowhere near as expensive as contributory visa. Canada - even lesser.
  9. With what's at stake, I'd strongly recommend for you to involve a professional migration agent.
  10. One cannot have the no further stay condition on visitor visa right to be able to change to 864/805?
  11. Also the 3 months wait time before you apply for your next 5 years + the processing time at that time for 870 visas -> I think there'll be a gap of at least a year between those 2 sets of 5 years. It's just 1 long never ending tunnel ;(
  12. SO informative! Thank YOU! Though a little bummed that we applied after June 2018. Nonetheless feels good to have some clarity atleast!
  13. Looks more relevant for skilled visa holders and tourists. In all fairness if they're not going to open borders for 870 visa holders they shouldn't be granting the visa either until such time that borders reopen.
  14. Assurer eligibility today doesn't guarantee eligibility at the time of grant (atleast 5 years from now if queue followed)
  15. Hi guys My parents are offshore and I'm about to lodge their 870 application (sponsorship is approved). Not sure what to expect next though - anyone offshore who's got 870 granted in the last 6 months?
  16. WOW!! That'd be like hitting a massive jackpot if true. I SO WISH my parents were onshore
  17. So informative, thank you Alan. About 'raising similar level of public awareness' Do online petitions with the govt work?
  18. Ah right interesting. And you have to have no further stay waived to be able to apply for 804/864 correct? So it's a bit of a gamble.
  19. Quite true. But I wonder what it'd look like say 50 years from now. Arent they crowding the country with all baby boomers to be left with an ageing population down the road? Not a macro economics expert but just thinking out loud. Not sure how long term is the govt really thinking.
  20. I guess this doesn't get allocated any budget usually as this is temporary visa stream - is that right? Last I checked they had allocated 15,000 places for the first year of the program.
  21. Does anyone know budget numbers for 870 visas this year?
