    So glad you are loving it so far! You mention week 5 was when you start work....did you guys already have jobs set up when you arrived? How are you finding the Melbourne weather so far? I hear such conflicting opinions about that! Good luck with everything else....sounds like you will be very happy over there!!

    Hi, Just wondering how many people managed to find a job before arriving in Australia? Having 2 school age kids moving with us it is a terrifying thought resigning, packing up our lives and moving half way around the world without jobs to go to. (We are hoping to go to Queesnland) If you did manage to secure a job beforehand, how did you do it? We are getting the impression that having a UK email address and phone number will knock us out of the running straightaway. Any advice appreciated!

    Hi, My husband is a senior electronic engineer and I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any advice about which state may offer more job prospects in this profession? I know the 2 obvious answers for better job prospects are Sydney and Melbourne, but anywhere else? Just wondering. Thanks.

    That's a bit of a worry as kids may be out of school for a while as it will take at least 2 or 3 weeks to find a place you want to rent for a year, and then you will need to visit zoned school, enrol etc before starting school, but at least I now know so can plan for it!

    Hi, was reading this topic and just wondering......if say we took a holiday rental for 4 weeks while looking for a long term rental, do you think the school would accept the address of the holiday rental as proof of residence for enrolment? Don't know yet if we will end up in Perth but hoping it is a similar process in most states?

    Thank you! I may take you upon that! Really hoping it will be Brisbane but husband is an Electronic Engineer so the next couple of weeks will be spent trying to figure out which areas he may be able to find work in. We have 2 kids aged 10 and 12 (well she will be 12 in a couple of weeks).

    Bettiblu, we honestly have no idea at this stage....quick turn around really took us by surprise. We love the gold coast but will have to research the work situation there first! Hopefully by Jan/Feb so kids can start school near the beginning of the year...but don't know....

    Hi, We lodged our Visa application on 28th July, police clearances uploaded 18th August and medicals done 14th August (we did not wait for a CO to be assigned, just uploaded them) and we had out Visa granted yesterday!!! (189) Could not believe it was so quick......hope it is speedy for all of you too.

    We had our visa granted yesterday! Was NOT expecting it so quickly......absolutely thrilled!! Application submitted on 28 July, Medicals done on 14th August and final police clearance (we needed 2) submitted on 18 August. We logged in on Wed and had not even been assigned a CO yet, then got an email from Agents yesterday morning saying Visa granted etc! We were so convinced it would be a long wait that we have done nothing else so far, so now the fun begins trying to figure out the best place to live and when to move etc!

    Hi, we are waiting too......everything lodged including Police clearances beginning July and medicals uploaded on 28 July! Everything crossed now!!!

    Our 189 Visa application was lodged today with the Adelaide office.........so now the agonizing wait begins!! Police clearance certificates done, have been advised to book medicals ASAP now.......cannot believe how much they charge for those!!

    Thanks so much everyone! I will contact fingerprints UK and try the police head quarters nearby. Nemesis.......good to know, if I cannot get it done in time I will send off the Visa Application anyway!

    Hi, I was wondering if any one had any advice. We need to get a police clearance certificate from another country (South Africa) which involves sending a set of finger prints to the South African police. Has anyone else had to do this? The only way we have found to do it so far is through Scotland Yard who require an appointment 6 weeks in advance, which means we will miss our 60 day deadline for submitting our Visa Application. Any advice welcome.........thanks!

    Hi, Yay....we got our invite today (189 electronics engineer)! Just wondering what other people's timelines were from this point, how soon were you in Aus after receiving your invite? Feel like we should be making plans now.....searching the job market, looking at suburbs where there seems to be the majority of jobs in this industry etc. Or are we jumping the gun? We have 2 kids in Junior school so really hoping to be there for the start of the school year in Jan! Too optimistic???

    Hi Casey, My husband took the test, not me. He said the real test is just like the practice tests, just get someone to read your written practice tests as they are quite picky with grammar and the use of clauses etc....they want to see good examples of different grammar to give you the higher marks. He spent weeks doing loads of practice tests, we are "native English speakers" and he got 9 for speaking and 9 for reading 8.5 for writing and 8 for listening. He said the listening test was quite confusing and he was surprised he got an 8......they had to listen to someone giving directions while also chatting about some of the places around town and then they had to mark on the map where the post office and the bank etc was based on the directions.     Hi, This is my first post here......have loved reading all the advice etc so far. My husband is applying for a skilled visa PR 189. He wrote his ELTS exam on the 13th May, after lots of studying to make sure he gets the points he wants, but we have still not received the results! The test centre said that the results from that day are being investigated by an outside independent company, but they seem to have no idea how long we will have to wait for the results, they just keep saying it has never happened before so they don't know! Has anybody else experienced this and if so, how long did it take until you got your results? This was one delay we were not expecting!
