  1. They are bringing the total amount if visas down to just 10 but that could happen gradually over the next few years
  2. Processing times updated today for 489 state sponsored 75% in 7 months 90% in 9 months
  3. It's mostly the weather that puts people off. But a few wet seasons and you get used to it
  4. I actually chose the NT out of all the states. I lived in all and found the NT suited my lifestyle the most. Individual preferences I guess. Its very chilled, wildlife is amazing, theres less population so no congestion, and the national parks and fishing is awesome. My job entitled me to all states
  5. As mentioned I would definitely talk about the weather and that you have thoroughly researched into it. If you haven't already been to the NT, fair warning its extremely hot and humid. It may only say its 35 degrees but it feels like 50+
  6. I had my nomination granted in 3 days. I have lived in Darwin previously so had a very good understanding of the lifestyle. You really need to make them believe its where you want to live and even more so its where you want to stay long term. A job offer is also very very helpful. There are a lot of samples on google of peoples letters etc
  7. I got my NT nomination granted in 3 days. I did spend a lot of time and effort into my application especially my letter of commitment. I helped me out a lot though as i have previously lived in Darwin for 18 months. Also it completely depends on your occupation and the current need for it. 190 nominations are quite rare for the NT
  8. Consider the amount of staff compared to the amount visas appliactions. The backlog is horrendous at the moment. All we can do is be patient and submit a fully complete application first time round
  9. Timeline Electrician (general) 60 points +10 SS Applied for NT nomination - 09/02/18 State nomination granted - 12/02/18 Visa invitation - 14/02/18 Visa application lodged - 15/02/18 Medical - 20/02/18 Police certs for UK and Aus cleared-13/03/18 No further action

  11. Good news is that all 7 regional areas of NSW are nominating your occupation currently
  12. With NSW their system is slightly different to others. You will also have to wait to be selected to apply for the nomination from skill select
  13. I applied for 489 state nomination to the NT as general electrician with 60 points in february. Points are not a huge part in state sponsorship. If you are firstly granted the individual state nomination application, you will receive an automatic visa invitation. Some states require a direct application for the nomination part before your invited for the visa. The nomination application is were most people fail as the state requirements change frequently. Your occupation needs to be on the individual states list. What occupation are you applying under and what state are you headed?

  15. Thanks for your reply. Where did you find the information online? I've looked on many sites and can only find electrical licence application forms but not much of the gap training. I did my skills assessment with the downundercentre last year and knew their costs were rather high so thought id wait to be onshore and in employment
  16. It's also very dependant on how complicated your case is and how accurate and detailed all the information you provided them. Every case is completely different after all. Good luck!
  17. I check everyday for updates on 489 visas. The majority of cases that have CO contact are between 20-40 days after lodgement. 90% that get over 50 days received a direct grant. As others have said there's no exact procedure to how they process cases. But definitely shows a pattern. If you havnt checked it out it's worth a bit of research to get an idea of other people cases
  18. What visa are you applying for?
  19. Hey everyone. Does anybody have any rough costs of getting enrolled in the gap training for general electrician once onshore? Hopefully heading out in the next few months and curios of how much I'll need to lay out licencing wise. Thanks
  20. People go through extreme measures and study towards getting a qualification just to qualify for a visa . There's no easy route unfortunatley. Maybe contact a mara agent for expert advice
  21. Hey everyone, thought I would start a new topic based just on visa grants to help everyone get a better idea about current processing times. Please just post your timeline after you have received your grant in a basic format. (visa type)(points)(occupation)(date submitted)(grant date)(direct grant or CO contact} This will be very useful for everyone waiting and definitely helps keep up the motivation for us all! Good luck to everyone waiting and congrats to all those who have received their visa. Feel free to follow this post to stay up to date
  22. Analysing the tracker, most direct grants are around 90 days from submission. Everyone who had CO contact requesting further documents eg.medicals, form 80 decision was pushed to around 170 days. That's why people push to front-load all documents. Good luck with everything, hope you get the visa soon
  23. I would reconsider your medicals as its even stated on the home affairs website to do it early in your application for easier and faster processing.. Achieving a faster visa decision Most 'complete' applications in Priority Groups 3 and 4 can be finalised at the time of assessment. For your application to be 'complete' undertake health examinations and upload all required documentation to ImmiAccount before the application is allocated for assessment.
  24. But i do agree with getting your medical and PCC certs done now. Not having them in place can extend your processing time quite a lot. PCC can take weeks to arrive and scheduling a medical can take a few weeks for availability. Then waiting for CO to pick up your file again. Medicals, PCC and form 80 are all great to have submitted at the start.
