  1. Hi Shak, I was reading your post above about being tired & getting nausea. Whilst yours is probably different to mine I had nausea & tiredness for years (I'm in my 20s). All doctors would ever do was pregnancy tests despite me saying I knew I wasn't pregnant then I found a great doctor who asked the right questions & did the right tests & found it was due to anxiety. I also have a really low iron count, something no other docs told me despite multiple blood tests. Definitely get a second or even third opinion
  2. Haha My husband & I have just stopped talking about it with ppl. Everyone has an opinion & it gets tiring listening to negativity. SugaredApple I am moving to East Sussex that's where the rest of my husband's family live
  3. My husband & I hear the exact same stuff. Ppl saying how awful it is over there, etc, but I always think well those same ppl love it here whilst I hate it so obviously we have very different ideas as to what's good & bad. Depending on where you go some places are more affordable in England then here & vice versa. What part of the UK are you looking at?
  4. Hi SugaredApple. Sounds like you are having a horrible time of it at the moment. I live in qld to so completely get feeling sick from the heat. It's absolutely awful here. With ppl calling you stupid;it's your family and your decision, no one else's. Have you thought of sticking it out for a bit longer to try & get a little more money put aside? (Seeing as you said your husband has a good job). My husband & I are both hopefully going back next yr despite both of us wanting to leave right now but we can't afford it
  5. Hey Yorkies84, I know how you feel. When are you planning to move? We were originally planning late next yr but the way things are going it looks a lot sooner.
  6. Hi Yorkies84, my husband and I are in Brisbane & finding the same thing. Despite ample experience there just aren't enough jobs here We were looking at going back late next yr but might have to go back earlier now
  7. Hi Sarah, when I was doing research on this there was one site I went to that said if you were a British citizen returning to the UK you had no tax to pay for shipping in the UK but if you aren't then you would have to. I don't know if this is correct or not
  8. Hi Sarah, I'm in the same position except wanting to move a couple of months later. We're just wanting to move our queen bed with matching bedsides & chest of drawers plus some boxes. I got a quote from move cube for just under $2000 but am unsure if it will be big enough. Pls let me know how you go
  9. Hi Bob, thank you for the link. One question I have though is it says I will need a certificate for my cat entering the UK (which isn't a problem) but then it said after being there for a certain amount of time I will need to switch to a pet passport. Do I still need this even if we are moving there to live? Thank you
  10. Most accurate representation of Australia I've ever read!! Thank you!
  11. I haven't moved to the UK yet but I found (where I live) that when I did my bond refund in person I got it back within a few days but when I did it all through the post it took a couple of months.
  12. Hi Everyone, My husband and I are planning on moving to the UK in the next couple of years. I have been googling and reading up as much info as possible but would love to hear from people who have actually done it. So if you could answer any of the following questions, I will be forever grateful  We are planning on shipping our cat over, some sites I've read say she needs a pet passport or Australian equivalent which will then have to be changed to a pet passport once she has been in the UK for a certain amount of time. Also the quarantine time is very vague, as long as she has the correct paperwork can we just pick her up as soon as she has arrived at the airport or get her dropped off? We are planning on selling or donating most of our stuff before the move, but would like to ship our queen size bed, draws, bedside tables, mattress and books etc. Are we best getting a move cube? I have tried to get a quote on their site but it won't let me enter the UK as my shipping destination. Also estimated shipping time? As I am Australian born I am currently deliberating between trying to get my EU passport (grandparents were from there) or getting the spouse visa. Any help from people who have done either would be appreciated. Also if anyone got a British passport or Ancestry Visa from having a great grand parent from there? Sorry for all the questions, Thank you!
  13. Hi Chortlepuss! What part of Sussex are you from? My husband & I are planning on moving there in the next couple of years. (He is originally from there.) What in your opinion is the best area for labouring or truck driving jobs? Plus if there are any areas considered bad or dangerous? Thank you
  14. Can I ask (without being too nosy!) what you managed to fit into your 2 move cubes? Did you find communication easy with them? Thank you
  15. I have experience on the opposite side of the fence unfortunately. Whilst I was born in Aus I've always had a slight accent & got bullied for it all through primary & high school as well as racist taunts due to my ancestry. My husband was also bullied when he first moved to Aus & started school but after a few 'physical' fights it soon stopped for him. Sadly what ever part of the world you live in there is a chance for bullying. My grandmother always told me to be proud of where I come from & for being different & I'm glad I am
  16. Hi Bob, I know ppl have probably asked this already but I just wanted to know what goes into shipping a cat from Australia to the UK. (Eg any vaccinations, how long it takes, any quarantine time?)
  17. Hi Aunt Agatha. I was just wondering how you found shipping your cats to the UK, how they seemed to find it & how long it took in total from them leaving here to arriving there? Thank you
  18. We are waiting a couple of yrs before going back. It's a big move & a lot to do beforehand so we don't want to rush. Plus we'd like to go over with a bit of money so we don't have to work straight away
  19. Totally agree with you kiwiinaus! My husband & I are in the process of moving to the UK in the next few years (fingers crossed! ). A few ppl have told us how awful it is over there & how 'everyone' over there wants to come here, but we have family in the UK who love it. They aren't struggling & are happy Everyone is different at the end of the day & we all want different things
  20. I would also love this checklist! Found the one for moving to Australia but not to UK
  21. Thanks for all the advice so far everyone! We went & visited England in winter a couple of yrs ago & both loved it. I felt more at home there then I ever have in Aus. The weather is not really a problem for me as I actually hate the heat here & am not a real 'beach' person. While all my husband's extended family are excited at the prospect of us moving over the few ppl we know here from England (husband's parents included) have been very negative about it unfortunately
  22. My question is to those of you moving back (& those already moved) to the UK with an Australian partner/husband/wife/ etc. How hard was it for them adjusting to the UK & what if anything did they find the hardest?
