  1. Unfortunately am reading differing stories on this with some saying I'll be asked to leave as soon as article 50 is announced due to arriving so recent. Also if it is 2 years then it still puts me in a predicament as I'll have to apply for a visa then or leave. If it was just my husband & I are not such a huge problem but we are shipping our stuff & pet with us.
  2. Earlier this year my husband and I had planned on moving to the UK unfortunately due to personal reasons we had to push our move date back. Then brexit happened. Unfortunately as a dual aus & eu citizen I had been planning on getting in that way now that doesn't really seem possible. Anyone who has gone down the spouse visa route was it easy/ hard? Am reading lots of different requirements needed & unsure whether we can provide all that. I am also sadly one generation off getting the ancestry visa too. Also does anyone know of any qualified people who help with spouse visas in Brisbane as am having no luck with searches so far. Thank you in advance for any help :cute:
  3. And how you some how are still finding sand weeks later in your car and/or house
  4. With furniture I think if it's a good or favourite piece it is worth bringing, just think of the cost of having to buy all those things in the UK. But I would also have a good declutter & anything you don't love sell
  5. Sort of know how your feeling right now & I agree with Gbye grey sky. The joy of dual citizenship is that you have a choice so why not go for it? You're still young & it's not like you can't ever come back
  6. My husband & I went through nearly 4 years of him working fifo. The first half he was home a wk a month & the last half only 2 days a month. Whilst not strictly long distance we still rarely saw each other. Unfortunately long distance doesn't work for everyone. Some ppl come back together & find they can't get in sync again, others cheat, some get depressed. The hard part is no one knows how their relationship will come up till the end. I know it all sounds obvious but maybe you should try couples therapy, that way someone else is there to help mediate your discussion & give advice?
  7. Something to consider for Acacia Ridge travel time is Beaudesert Rd gets quite crazy from about 3pm to about 6pm so be prepared to add extra travel time there. Hope that helps
  8. There are a few convenience stores dotted around but the closest big shopping centre is Garden City. Sadly unless you live in the cbd or inner suburbs I think a lot of Brisbane is hard to get to without a car. You can get to garden city from eight mile plains by the buses I mentioned before & I'd say a few others would too. Depending on which part you live in there are some nice parks & walking tracks dotted about.
  9. Hi Davlap, not sure if you're after a house or townhouse or wanting to rent but there are quite a few rentals at Eight Mile Plains. Some nearby suburbs are Runcorn, Mt Gravatt, Rochedale & Underwood. I'm not 100% on all buses for that area but 111 & 150 are 2 of the bigs. Hope that helps
  10. Cleveland & Victoria Pt are more East side not south. Sunnybank can be quite expensive but Forest Lake is cheap (although it is unfortunately next to Inala). Algester & Parkinson have lots of lovely parks & are in your price range. There is a shopping centre with Aldi, Coles & Woolworths only 5 mins away to
  11. I hope not as my husband & I are moving over in a few months & I have a European passport. I would think it a bit silly if the UK did that though as countries in the EU would do the same back to them..
  12. It has been a few years since I went through the process but you use to have to study the learn to drive manual & there was a website where you could sit a practice test. Maybe try the WA's equivalent of RACQ? Hope this helps
  13. Air con. If we didn't have air con in the house, car, shops & work I wouldn't survive
  14. You won't find one that nice sadly. I'm not sure where in Aus you are moving but in Brisbane you can buy ones with carpet to scratch from the big pet shops but they are quite expensive & not always the most sturdy. Otherwise there is someone in Brisbane who makes them by hand to your design (if they can) again is quite expensive though.
  15. I was just going to rely on cash & a travel card. I don't do net banking so it makes accessing my account from another country too much effort to bother.
  16. I don't know if that applies for every bank & then it might also depend on your account but when I asked mine they said we could only do it in person
  17. At this stage we are planning on a may move but my oh's British passport expires in July. Are we better off renewing it before we leave? Finding the banking aspect annoying as our bank has said we can only cancel our accounts in person so at this stage we are going with just a travel card & cash which seems a problem as we want to hire a car at first.
  18. Thanks Johndoe. Do you think it would be the same if I used a bank travel card in the UK?
  19. Thank you much lady Rainicorn & Marissa Wright. So much conflicting stuff out there it just does your head in!
  20. Can anyone direct me to info for EU citizens moving to/living in the UK? I have been finding so much conflicting info. Can I get an NHS number & insurance number? I have aus citizenship as well if that helps. Can you also hire a car without a credit card? I know a lot of places in Aus don't so was curious if it's the same in the UK?
  21. The 4kq Christmas light competition. Once the winners are announced there is a list published with Brisbane divided by North, south, east, West & Logan city. Also southbank is having Christmas markets this yr
  22. I was planning on staying a wk to 2 wks after the lease ended to make sure everything is sorted but am finding it very hard to find temporary accommodation that allows pets & doesn't cost the earth!
  23. Haha. They might be able to, it doesn't hurt to ask. They also said they will board her for a night in Brisbane before they fly her out
  24. February seems to be very popular with everyone My husband & I are leaving late February early March.
  25. Hi Pomstar! Sounds like you're really not enjoying yourself. Good on you for deciding to leave, what part of the UK are you looking at moving to? My husband and I are moving next year
