  1. Oh my god! I got 100% in my mock exam! Real one in 2 weeks so better not stop revising yet!
  2. As a type 1 I found the information I was given at first was poor but it has improved somewhat with the likes of DAFNE (dose adjustment for normal eating). This gives you the tools you need to make an informed decision, but for type 2 such useful tools do not seem to exist. It seems ludicrous to me give the cost of type 2 diabetes on health care services; prevention should be the focus of this money to negate the need to spend money on cure!
  3. My little Taylor... She's the love of my life xxx
  4. Oh deary me, this has just reminded me that I've had numerous admissions to hospital; definitely 3, maybe 4 for a weeks stay plus a one or two overnights :'( All but 2 related to a chronic condition and all but 1 I have no idea of the dates. I repeat... oh deary me :'( In all honestly it does sound like you'll be fine xx
  5. Well my uni said they can'tuse the company I've found but can use their own 'contacts'. That doesn't bother me too much but I can only assume there's a few too many t's to cross and I's to dot x Just be persistent x
  6. I'll try to find you the link later but I think it's on AHPRAS website. Looking at the form it's for the uni to fill in x We're not affiliated with a uni, but we have contacts who have practices over there and work there x
  7. I'll try to get a update from the guy who's doing it this year. I'm now in a saving up mission so looks like I'll be working all summer this year and next Uni register us with AHPRA too as a student on clinical placement so we can actually practice!
  8. It is and it isn't. Once I'm qualified I fully intend on traveling to oz with my oh before starting the visa process, as he's never been before. With this in mind we could bring that trip forward to coincide with my placement. That aside yes, you need a minimum of return flights (£750ish) and 6wks of day to day living (god only knows $$$). You also need to pay for your own visa. Accommodation is the clincher, some on my course have got free/subsidised accommodation, but it's not always possible. I did price up a 4 bed female dorm for 4weeks and was surprised it was only £550! If its planned enough in advance don't rule it out x
  9. Anna, I found out today that one of my uni's placements in Australia (we have 4) is with the flying doctors... cannot wait until my final year!!!
  10. Congrats on passing your exams! I have one more presentation this year, I've done the knee and the ankle in gait, just the hip left. They're all group presentations though so not too bad (even if I do like being in control). Mock anatomy next Monday then 5 exams to go before I'm in my second year! Doesn't time fly?????
  11. Further to last post "*if a significant health condition is identified following your health examination, an opinion will not be made as to whether you meet the health requirement until after you have lodged a visa application *you will not be advised of your results until after you have lodged a visa application" Seen on this page https://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/health-requirements/my-health-declarations.htm
  12. I looked into this for future reference and found that although you can do your medical upfront once your EOI has been a submitted you WILL NOT get the results and you will have to apply for the visa to find out! I was thinking the exact same thing (I'm a type 1 diabetic and OH is 'portly' with family history of type 2 diabetes) as I thought it better to waste money on a failed medical than a failed visa but alas they don't tell you if you've passed or failed. Can't remember the exact wording but I found it by clicking on a few links from skill select Maybe someone with experience will be asking to correct me x
  13. I spent about £3500 on a 3 week backpacking hol in 2004, around £10,000 for 2 of us (serviced apartments, 5 internal flights and hotels) for a 5 week trip including a week in hawaii/san Francisco on the way home and I saved £3000 (plus flights) for my WHV. I've been looking at housesitting which seems good but would need further research. That would save a fortune, I'd just need money for flights, living and car then and I have 2yrs to save by working in the summer hols. Also thinking it could be our reccie as OH has never been and we'd want a reccie in 2yrs anyway. 2 birds 1 stone
  14. This spreadsheet seems to think I might struggle financially... is there an excel formula to fix this lol? Only kidding, may need to scrimp on foxtel and mobiles until OH finds work, but plenty of time to worry about that. I'm very pleased you created this as i would have done something of a similar intensity anyway, it's much nicer to just modify yours
  15. There's a sticky for parent visas at the very top of migration issues. Never looked at it myself but may be a good starting point for you if you've not already seen it?
  16. Grrrrrrr Anatomy. For me it's a huge part of my course, not sure what it's like for nursing as I know you have a million and one other hugely important things to learn too. I have a mock anatomy exam next Monday: 50 multiple choice images of nerves, veins, arteries, tendons, ligaments, muscles, bursa, fascia cartilage and bony prominences to identify and occasionally it will ask their function, just for good measure!!! Need over 80% to keep my grade average up... averaging 65% so far :nah:. On a lighter note I have just found all the forms and procedures involved in student registration (AHPRA) for the likes of us. It is for students who are not registered on an approved course (ie overseas) but who have arranged a clinical placement in Australia. It is for a university to complete, so all very above board. I know for some this is not an option due to family, but how it all works has been playing on my mind recently, so the info is there for everyone now :ssign19: 9th FAQ down: http://www.ahpra.gov.au/Registration/Student-Registrations/FAQ-for-Education-Providers.aspx
  17. Try this link for the process http://www.ccea.com.au/index.php/skills-assessment/process/?mobile=1
  18. Would you have to see an endo for HbA1c or could this be arranged with a blood test by a GP? Podiatrists shouldn't be too hard to come by; you'll definitely want to research retinopathy screenings though I would think!
  19. I'm only in my first year so second round of exams coming up soon (including practical) followed by a 4 week placement. As a podiatrist I only get 1 placement a year so very nervous! I've been putting the feelers out for a placement in Australia too! I think I have a company who I could work with/for but not sure How it works after that? A few students at my uni have been on placement in Australia though so I'm sure it's all doable xx
  20. Just incase you don't already know, test strips and what not aren't available on prescription as such in Australia so you may want to check out http://www.diabetesaustralia.com.au/ndss/ . I'm type 1 and still in the UK so I'm not a wealth of information but I remembered the scheme when I saw your post x
  21. I applied in September too (2012). I think I got notification of my January interview almost straight away, and a conditional offer shortly after, but it wasn't until June that I had an unconditional offer (after CRB and Occ Health) I got to bed at 03:30 after trying to get stuck into an assignment, luckily it's not due until April but I struggle with ideas and referencing so I'm trying to get a head...... so far I've only got a head ache though lol x
  22. I have type 1 diabetes and as much as my oh seems to understand I still find it difficult to get the point across sometimes. If I pass out because of low blood sugars I feel like he's disappointed in me, whereas in reality I've just burned out and probably made a very minor maths error along the way. I read this earlier and put it to one side in my brain, I've now decided I do like it I bet I won't think to use it until I have a disabling hypo at which point my translation of this story will be hilarious, something like a tasmanian devil in my kitchen lol
  23. It is compulsory of you intend to have your skills assessed as a nurse as they require a minimum of 7. You're UK passport gives you the equivalent of a 6 x
  24. One of my modules is alongside OTs, physios, ODPs, podiatrists and all branches of nursing and we all go on placements and use evidence based practise
  25. It could be helpful to lots of healthcare professions when it comes to the different registration boards and the common features and similarities of AHPRA and such like too xx
