  1. Nick I didn't do the form 80 and was never asked to complete it either and I got my 189 without any problems ;-)
  2. hiya ya good luck with getting your grant. We both started the process of teacher registration from the uk then booked the training for as soon as he arrived. As it was coming up to summer (uk) holidays once he had completed the CP and First aid training he went to see them and explained it would be tricky to get references over the summer so the guy literally put his application through there and then (record of 17minutes!). He then literally got work as soon as he got his registration so I arrived Monday and he was working Tuesday! Good luck with it all ;-)
  3. My dh has been in Adelaide just 3 weeks. Managed to get teacher registration yesterday and today has regular supply in one school starting Tuesday!! Feel much more secure going out there now ;-) I fly on Sunday!!! Yipee!
  4. I didn't have to do the form 80. Don't think everyone has to.
  5. Our stuff is on it's way. We used john mason and so far they have been great ( the two guys who came to pack up were ace!). We ended up with a 20ft container (4 bed house and lots of junk but we got rid of loads too!). I think it was about £3600 in total (can't remember exact figure). There were a couple of bits that wouldn't fit in but we had prioritised and we were only taking the bits if we fitted them in (we weren't too bothered about them - few chairs etc). They came for our stuff June 19th&20th and we expect it delivered beginning of sept so about 2 1/2 months. Good luck.
  6. So my husband tells me - he must send a text every day with more items I need to bring (hoodies, raincoats, onesies for kids etc!). Thinking maybe I should have delayed my flight it was 21 degrees here today!!!
  7. Hi quiff I may be wrong but without the qualification you won't get in so you'd need to get it but unfortunately I think your experience only counts after you get the qualification so you won't get points for experience. Have you approached a migration agent? They are often free for the initial consultation and would then be able to give you the right answer to all your questions. Good luck I hope you are able to find a way.
  8. Hi fellow teachers! My husband arrived in Adelaide last Thursday and we are feeling pretty optimistic about work (supply at least). He has already got one school signing him up for work after their holiday (2 week holiday next week and the week after), he has an appointment at another school to have an interview with the DHT and has (when completing his mandatory training day) met a lady who was really impressed with him and she said they have assistant positions coming up pretty soon at her school and would put in a good word. (Not sure how influential she is in her school but you never know!). I join him in 2 1/2 weeks! I am soooo excited and I am now feeling pretty optimistic about us getting teaching jobs. I recon he will be supplying within the month and then hopefully some more permanent jobs may come up for him. I am not sure when I will look as we need to get our boys sorted out in school and kindy so I will probably have to sort that out first. So although my husband hasn't got a job yet it is certainly not looking too doom and gloom so fingers crossed and good luck to everyone!
  9. Thank you. Not sure about resting on the plane (4&6 year olds in tow) but I will try to enjoy! My husband keeps texting it all sounds amazing. Can't wait to join him now!!
  10. My husband has arrived and despite the jet lag is loving it so far! Me and my boys will be joining him in just 23 days! I am soooo excited now - can't wait
  11. Have you tried getting advice from a migration agent - mine was brilliant and practically wrote the letters for me and I just them forwarded them on for people to fill in the blanks! Maybe it'd be worthy contacting one?
  12. Hiya. I will have to check with my husband as he sorted it. Ours actually fell through I am afraid so we ended up finding a long term rental from realestate which we move into on the 1st July (well my husband does - I am joining him later).
  13. Hi weldaboy46 firstly I am sorry to hear about your wife and i really hope the lump turns out not to be cancer, but as she will know with her family history she needs to go and get it checked out sooner rather than later as the prognosis is so much better if you catch it early on. (I too have history in the family of it - one who died and one who survived). you said you 'are hoping for news of our 457 visa application' does that mean you should get it any time now? if so - have you already been through the medicals and passed? (if that is the case then i guess it won't affect your grant?). Also even if you haven't don't the medical yet unless there is an actual diagnosis of cancer then surely the medical would be passed anyway? (only guessing - have no idea if that is right or not!) as others on here have said health is the most important thing and if you don't get it checked out you will both worry (and go forbid wish you had if it does turn out to be cancer). maybe you can still go through the process and make decisions on if to actually move if and when you know for sure either way? i do hope it turns out to be just a fatty deposit or cyst. good luck
  14. sorry I don't know Harrogate really (have been shopping there once!). Looks like you have your sights set on Harrogate, I hope someone will be able to help you that knows it well. I thought though as you said about farming areas and reasonable commutes this area (hebden) is perfect. I think though all of the grammar and private schools here are mainly mixed sex ones. These are the only two independent schools I know in this area (for KS3/4/5): http://www.rishworth-school.co.uk http://www.rastrick-independent.co.uk A few grammars though: https://www.nhgs.co.uk http://www.brgs.org.uk http://www.crossleyheath.org.uk yes a canal boat would be lovely ;-)
  15. Ripponden and Hebden Bridge are both lovely, lots of farming around and beautiful walks. As for commuting - not sure about the train links in Ripponden but from Hebden Bridge you can get a train easily to many major cities/towns (Halifax, Bradford, Leeds, Manchester, York etc etc). Lots of people live here (Hebden Bridge) for the countryside and commute to one of the cities by train for work. Lots of good grammar and private schools around and about if thats what you are looking for. State schools are ok (I am a teacher in a lock secondary here) but a lot of the higher achieving pupils go to the private schools or sit the entrance exams for the selective schools.
  16. Hope it comes soon Danielle24 it is such a hard wait x we have booked flights - HD goes in 3 weeks then we (me and boys) go on 20th July! (2 days after finishing work!!!). It is very exciting (but soooo much to do!). Removals come for our stuff June 19th so we are frantically sorting, selling, giving away etc etc. anyone else still waiting? X
  17. we have sorted a house sit when we first arrive - our dog won't be with us for a while though so it is probably easier but it may be possible to find a sit that will allow a small dog? might be worth investigating?
  18. Hi thanks for the info miw54. we have registered now with one and have a few potential sits in the pipeline - even with the kids! so hopefully it'll all work out just great.
  19. Thanks for that. It will more than likely be my husband alone to be honest - he is flying out a month earlier than us to sort accommodation/teacher registration etc. so that should be ok. Did you manage to book it from the uk? Also which agency did you use? Thanks for reply ;-)
  20. Oh great. So did you open a new iTunes and it jus went over orris you change your origional account?
  21. I only use iTunes for music really so shouldn't be too much of a problem though I would have liked to have 1 place to find my my music on my phone/iPad as I teach dance so it is really necessary I have my music on there in playlists etc. ho Hum. What at about ICloud then - can I just acces everything I can here - I pay for extra storage so not sure how it'll work! Thanks everyone x
  22. Can anyone advise me if my data/contacts etc on my iPad/iphone will work once i move to australia or will i loose everything!? I have a mac too - will that work? I use iCloud to back up my devices - will the iCloud wok over there? also how about the music i have on iTunes? Thanks
  23. has anyone tried it and had positive (or negative) experiences? Just thinking it may be a good start for living whilst waiting for furniture. my husband is heading over before us (me, 2 kids and a dog) to secure a rental, find schools for the boys and hopefully some work! I was reading about house sitting and wondered if it was worth him doing? You have to pay a fee to register so i don't want to get stung by going with a bad company so recommendations would be fab ;-) thanks
  24. Thanks everyone. We are thinking we won't rent (although have spite trial tenant wanting it!) as we have been told it is harder to sell when iris rented out and therefore will possibly take too long to sell (ultimately we want to sell it to allow us to buy in oz). We are considering just going to vacant possession and moving over anyway. Our mortgage is pretty small so we will just have to try and cover the payment until we sell! Still note thirdly sure it's the right thing to do but it may be necessary!
