Very exciting vandeux. Just tried to send a pm telling you how jealous I am but it got lost some how! Hope my skills assessment comes soon so I can join you and possibly teacherben in the waiting game  By the way - can anyone tell me how I put all the info re IELTS etc on the bottom of my profile or whatever it is called?
  3. Glad to know though it won't affect my application.
  4. does anyone know if this is right?
  5. Ha ha I feel like a real criminal! I am not too worried about driving in Australia and having my licence took away or being fined - I really am pretty slow. I am the driver with a big line of traffic behind me cursing as they want to get passed and go at a faster pace! It sounds bad me getting 3 but it was on a stretch of road that goes from 30 - 50 up a hill and I think I was getting up my speed too quickly, there were mobile units, the second time I did the same (had no idea I'd got booked at this stage) and the third time I think I use hadn't worked out yet exactly where the road had changed (as I was driving - I thought - really carefully to work out where I went wrong!). My my husband thinks it is hilarious as I never speed and have never had points. I cried when when I got the third! i just can't believe it. Traffic behind me now are really frustrated - I am now driving 2,ph less than limit and never speed up to next speed limit until I have PASSED the sign ha ha.
  6. I thought that was the case too but I also think it is supposed to be a little easier to get 20 from the academic (I think you have to get more less to get the same score as general if that makes sense?).
  7. Firstly Happy new year to everyone! Secondly - Anyone know how having points on your licence affects your chances of getting a visa. (I know you have to declare them but unsure how it affects decisions). I am gutted - 22 years of driving with a squeeky clean licence and I have been caught speeding not once, not twice but three times in the space of 15 days!! EEEKK! I did the course so won't get points for the first one but I think will get 3 for each of the others (so 6 in total). Anyone know how this will affect things? I have applied for my skills assessment and written my declarations (declaring no points at the time) but am not at the EOI stage yet. Any words of wisdom?
  8. Bagger71 I did academic (by mistake - I booked the wrong one). Most is exactly the same. I really needed max points too. Managed to get the 20. I recon it's worth a try for the extra points. Good luck!
  9. I too am using them and they have been excellent so far. Can't praise them enough (but will if I end up sucessful!) ;-)
  10. Not actually ha time to start the spread sheet yet but this is all really useful. Thanks everyone! ;-)
  11. Thanks everyone. Keep it coming if you think of anything else.
  12. I am about to create a spread sheet of some sort to work out the overall cost of making the move. Aside from the obvious (shipping of goods, visa costs, flights etc) is there anything I might need to put on there - maybe there are some 'hidden costs' or other costs you don't think about until you get to it. I am happy to share my spread sheet once it's done
  13. TA support is going to get less funding here in th uk VERY soon so they are going to be a bit of a thing of the past soon. A lot if research suggests that 1to1 support in the classroom is not always the best option. If your son has mild dyslexia I am sure other interventions will be more beneficial for him than 1to1 support. Not sure how it is in Australia so can't say what is best but I am not sure the support we get here in the UK is going to be the same for too long. I have mild dyslexia and mine also wasn't diagnosed until I was teacher training following my degree - think it's pretty common for my generation (think they used to think people were just 'thick' not dyslexic). I was lucky mine was mild so I learnt strategies to hide it so I wasn't branded stupid!
  14. HNks everyone. Seems very varied. We will probably be going SA (Adelaide) way but are not 100% yet until our recci in August time. I guess on our recci we could pop in some schools to drop off cvs etc. (dh is also teacher but hope to get him a more permanent role ASAP).
  15. Hey vandeux. Our posts crossed  great you got yours posted off. Thought you had to want for mess/police checks til you got the go ahead?
  16. Thanks everyone one it does help. So useful having this site (how on earth did people do this before the internet!). not sure I have wondered this myself - if it is on EOI then I should be ok - the worry is if it is on visa application, that's when time is really going to be an issue! anyone know about this?
  17. Hope some of you teacher who have already made the move can help me out... wondering if anyone can give me an idea of how much work I'd be likely to get supply teaching? Thinking it would be the best start for me so I can have less pressure in work to enable me to help my kids settle in. Is there a good amount - is it possible to work each day supply? or am I more likely to get the odd day each week (or less?). I am secondary trained if that helps.
  18. Just received news from my agent that my skills assessment has been sent off which is very exciting but I now feel hugely worried too!! I feel like now we are one step closer we have more to loose if that makes sense!? anyway the real reason I am on here is the agent said the skills assessment is taking about 3 months on average at the moment - we are on borrowed time as I turn 40 in March so I am a little worried about how long it is going to take to apply for the visa. Anyone got any timings on how long things may turn around (also anyone's skills assessment come through quicker than this - school teacher assessment). Can an anyone reassure me that I may just make the visa application on time?
  19. Great. Thanks for the info. One last thing... We have had te rabies shot done already at our normal vets. Will it be the right one (I read somewhere about live/non live vaccines and got confused!). Thanks
  20. Thanks bob. I I get one done now and then don't go for a year what is the worst that happens? (Wil I just get another done?)
  21. Thanks for the info. Sounds quicker than I expected (which is good!). Anyone also able to tell me how long after invitation it takes to actually get a vias (assuming I apply pretty swiftly that is). I know it isn't an exact science but just trying to get an idea of when we might be able to realistically move. Thanks
  22. IFC ts is under warranty it is worth a try taking it to apple store. I have had my iPad (2 weeks left on warranty) and my iPhone (a few weeks old) replaced free of charge with a broken screen. The iPhone was a clean crack through with no sign of damage through a drop etc. the iPad the lady said there was a mark where it had obviously been dropped but as it wasn't shattered - just a crack - she replaced it for me! Think I was lucky though to be honest I know a few who haven't been able to get a replacement (my husband is one of them!)
  23. Hi candy girl. Bit confused about your timeline.... 24. Ok so we have done our rabies injections but we probably won't be going out there for at least a year or maybe 2. So what is the next step?
  25. Hi all do you think it's a bit crazy to try to go from cairns to Adelaide seeing as much as possible Inbetween in 4 weeks? Our plan is to get a campervan and travel from place to place. We have 2 little ones in tow (they will be 6 and 4). If so what places do you recommend we see on our travels? Want to see as much as we can without the boys being too bored (by endless travelling). We want to make sure it is a holiday as well as getting a feel for places to live so happy to do some touristy stuff. Any thoughts?
