  1. (sorry for duplication wasn't sure which forum to put this on) Hi just wondered if any one knows of a good place to stay temporarily in the North lakes, Mango Hill Deception Bay area. This would be for 2- 4 weeks whilst setting up a unfurnished longer term rental in the area. It would need to be furnished and be willing to allow us to keep our small dog. Somebody suggested maybe camping but this isn't really going to be a suitable option. It would need to be either a holiday apartment or chalet. I would be grateful for any ideas

  3. We have had a look at a variety of places to settle. Me and my partner are not entirely in agreement. She wants to live up near the Sunshine Coast , e.g. Kawana Waters. I feel that job availability and commuting, we would be better placed outside of Brisbane e.g. Redcliffe, North Lakes. We have are not coming for another 4 months and do not have jobs lined up to go into, yet. So not aiming for particular location a this stage around a specific job. I think our options are better closer in to Brisbane. Any thoughts?
  4. Hi just making a list of items that i am shipping to Australia. I would like to make a list of things that are relatively cheap to buy again once we arrive versus shipping over. For example I checked the price of beds in ikea Brisbane and found it to be reasonable, as opposed to cost of getting a bicycle . These were very dear. Can someone please help me assemble a list starting with cheap things at the top to most expensive at bottom. A lot of stuff we have is relatively old so could replace before we go?
  5. What are the hidden charges you are referring to ? just getting quotes in now.
  6. Hi please can someone give me any guidance. As far I understand it once my dog is flown off to Sydney quarantine from uk . I will not be able to follow their progress at all until they are released from quarantine 11 days later (including the flight). I believe I will not have any direct way to contact the quarantine centre, nor will they be exercised or allowed any toys at all. Just wanted to know what to expect. Also the new 10 day quarantine is a minimum ,not an absolute. Does this mean I would need continue to pay $149 per day after the 10 day point possibly up to 30 days? This would work out at $4470 (£2480) plus vets fees?
  7. Hi just wondered if anyone had any opinions on Caboolture as a place to settle. Work wise how practical is a daily commute to the Brisbane City area ,most likely by train to begin with. My partner liked the idea of living in between Brisbane and Sunshine Coast but I'm concerned on distances from main working areas. Also is there any high schools that would could be recommended in the area for my 11 year old son? Thanks
  8. Hi any ideas at all , someone here mentioned Sandgate and Shorncliffe??
  9. Hi, We are currently looking to move to Southern Queensland in September/October and trying to find a place which has all the things we are looking for. So these would be ; 1) Easy access to Jobs, i.e. good access to transport bus or train into Brisbane and surrounding work areas with sensible commuting times/costs. 2) Reasonably close to beach/sea, we may not have a vehicle to start with. Ideally next to the sea but appreciate this may conflict with the first requirement. 3) Nice area to live with a good state school there for my son, currently 10. 4) Rents not too expensive if possible. I wonder if any one can suggest some areas for us to investigate please?
  10. Hi , Just been researching pet shipping costs and have found that most fly on 1 direct flight with a stop mid way for refueling, from Heathrow to Sydney. However one and only one I have found actually goes from Manchester to Dubai, at this point there is a brief stop over at kennels for 7 hours where the dog can stretch in a run and have something to eat . Then complete the journey on from Dubai to Sydney. I believe this is now possible as the crates no longer have to be sealed. Just wondered on peoples opinions and experience. Being confined in crate without food in a small hold for 30 hours doesn't seem pleasant the other options appears better?
  11. Hi, I'm new to this forum and have an ever growing list of questions to pose. Currently in the first stages of looking at shipping home contents to Australia from the UK and I wondered if we were to limit ourselves to half a container what would be the most cost effective things to take. In other words what would it make more sense to buy once moved over rather than take with. Or are prices so more expensive in Australia that it makes sense to take everything over and use more container space? Our fridge/freezer and microwave over are in need of replacement. Do i discard them over in UK and buy them new in Oz or should i buy them now before I leave and take them over?
