  1. Mirror what the others have said, depends on your industry theres plenty of people out of work and plenty in work! Can't really generalise too much best to get proper figures. I don't think WA ever went through a period of recession, if anything I think it has slowed down now alot compared to what it was, but again generalisation.
  2. Try recruitment agents who specialise in your area they are usually the best to speak to, try Stirling Anderson they are specialist recruiters and some of the staff there are english too so that might help you. There are always finance jobs just depends on you matching what they want, which is tricky part! Good luck
  3. I'm more relaxed now just from looking at these thank you! Glad your feeling better, I can't wait to leave Aus bring on March!!
  4. One word..gamble Thats what you would be doing and do you want to do it to your family is the question. If your dead set keen maybe best come over yourself first and secure a job before dragging them here only to have to return.
  5. Sounds like she really isn't considering the child you share in her anger towards you. I would seek legal advice in relation to your visa, however you hold the control remember as she came on the back on your visa right? So if you go she'll have to aswell.
  6. I didn't get my bond for about 2 weeks after I moved out and that was Sydney and they rushed it through for me. Depends if you agent lodged the funds with the bond board which they are supposed to do. If so theres not much you can do but just wait. If the place is clean and tidy there is no reason they should hold onto the bond.
  7. Unfortunately that is the curse of the expat right there, you never feel that sense of belonging you just have to learn to manage it best you can! Have a rest you probably need it after the long flight too.
  8. The council offers extra bins if people have that much rubbish that they over fill theres they should pay for another bin. If you get into the habit of offering your space people can take advantage. I know.
  9. Agree with this! I have returned to Perth recently after being away for 2 years and the roads are soo much worse and anyone who says otherwise is in denial! I have driven to work once since returning and am now on the train daily as the drive took me an hour and a half when it used to take 40mins at the same time of day. My brother in law spends 4 hours a day commuting its crazy to me and another reason I can't wait to leave!
  10. If you have a quote for less than 700 maybe stick with it, I've heard Seven Seas are cheap but shipping will always take longer than air so you have to bear that in mind when planning a move.
  11. I thought Croydon was dodgy but maybe thats only certain parts, its a city it will be busy and with alot of cultural diversity. Good luck
  12. Been around for years, I went when I was alot younger back in the 80's with friends. Don't think it has been updated much over the years though, my sister went with her kids and all the rides are the same bar a few new things.

    Big problems

I think pretentious is a commonly used term for Sydney

Welcome to Oz! You'll find most states are like that and definitely don't go to Perth then cause it is way worse than Sydney for rude people, I know I have lived in both places!

    Expats in the UK

Good to hear the Financial services sector is recovering in London, can't wait to get back there!
  16. Depends on your area and state I think, I've lived both east and west and although people were generally friendlier in Sydney it extended only as far as a hello that was it. People are so wrapped up in their own lives they just don't seem to want to bother..from my experience anyway and I'm born and bred here.
  17. Thats the curse of the expat unfortunately you will probably never feel right in either country when your in one you will always want to be in the other. You need to move on and try to except things as they are.
  18. I wouldn't stress competition for rentals is very tough in any state and its hard not to take it personally when they say no. I'm sure you'll find something soon just keep plugging at it. Agents are known to take for ever and the owners will make the call not them.
  19. Local experience will be the key to this, he may need to accept a lower position to begin with so I would financially prepare yourselves for that if you want to come. Also you may wish to check the qualifications as qualified in the UK may not translate here as it doesn't for other financial services roles.
  20. They can decline on the basis that you have been dishonest nothing else would matter after that because an insurance contract is a legal document, people seem to forget that some times.
  21. You won't pay seperate CTP in Perth as it is included in your rego so disregard that cost, if you go online to the WA Transport department there is a calculator that will tell you how much the rego would be on each car. Then the only other cost with be your insurance best do it online its generally cheaper.
  22. Yep I had my Aussie iphone unlocked whilst in UK a few years back now I can put a sim in from any country and it works fine! Cost be about 25 pounds for memory..
  23. Yep will be fine you'll just need a set top box, I bought my tv over from the uk as LED were cheaper then than here and it works fine with a box and when I go back just won't need the box!
  24. Everything has to be ceramic with them if you want to feed them as they will fly off with it! Also if you feed them the right stuff it's fine, I've seen people feeding them bread before which is sooo bad for them!
  25. I have recently booked my flight back to the UK for March next year, last time I went was in 2011 and GFC was still apparent as the job situation was tricky however after that 5 month stint being unemployed (longest I've ever had) & missing Aus weather (was there in winter - double whammy!) I returned to Aus and was employed within 2 weeks of being here (to my relief) but as time has gone on I miss my extended family in the UK and having been able to get to know them (being aussie born this never happened). So I decided to give the UK another crack as they say and hoping to get a better outcome this time as I can't afford to come back again plus my reasons for going have changed and my perception but I am still getting the "you'll be back" and "ok righto" look from family and friends, its very annoying and unsupportive :arghh:but can't say I am surprised as last time I went I was totally ignored by them to whole time I was in the UK. Wondering if anyone else gets to same from their family or friends, completely unsupportive and in a way non believing of what you want to achieve?
