  1. Not too sure on this but I do know the banks offer sponsorship so may be a start, I don't know your personal situation but I suggest to anyone coming to not sell up completely if you can rent your house out might be a good option - given housing is on the up in the UK. Again just advice and not sure of your personal position.
  2. Its not customary in Australia to tip anything other than hospitality i.e. restaurants. If you want to that's up to you.
  3. Thanks Londongal76, if you can send his details to me that would be great! I have owned a house in Oz before but another user said Aus history makes no difference, I'm an Aussie too so not 100% on how things work in the UK. I don't have a bank account there now but did back in 2011 when I visited.
  4. I'm all for foreign aid but when is enough enough..it looks like Ukraine is now going to be in Civil War does that mean they will flood in next..just need a good plan for this otherwise London will end up overrun and won't be able to cope. I don't know the figures but I doesn't seem as though Australia takes that many refugees, I know they take them but now they've started sending the boats back. Immigration as a whole needs to be monitored because illegal or legal, countries can still be overrun.
  5. Hi All I am going over to the UK in March this year and wanting to know the experiences of others who have moved back and bought houses right away. We have a large deposit but still need to borrow a little more, about 50% of the house price. I've been told by one bank there that I cannot borrow unless I have been in the country for 3 years? how do others do it then, not everyone has all the cash to buy straight up. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks
  6. I'm not a beach person and I'm not stupid enough to go in at dawn and dusk plus as I've said and stand by its their home so if they took me so be it, I wouldn't want it killed over it. It does matter because different sharks have different eating patterns and behaviours, you can't just whack out baits for them all and catch anything - it was all about Great Whites to start with now its changed to all sharks that come close to shore. I just hope the activists and common sense prevails on this issue eventually, Barnett is not winning any friends that's for sure.
  7. Maybe do a recon visit to check out the job situation for your industry first, you will have to be there to do interviews etc but its worth researching to make sure you will be better off.
  8. Just don't swim when sharks are feeding, we were always told as young ones not to swim and dawn and dusk so why can't people just stick to that and leave the sharks alone. If they see you bobbing around on a board with your arms out that shadow actually mirrors a seal, the shark isn't attacking humans it is undertaking normal shark feeding patterns. In a way I hope someone does get mauled because that will show the government that it isn't working, especially when the fisherman catching them can't even distinguish what shark it is they are meant to be hunting instead of catching them all!
  9. I'd call Immi they will tell you what's what, good luck!
  10. Neanderthal male again, "Me kill shark, me eat" That Barnett is a complete idiot but to be honest the people have themselves to blame they bloody voted for him! Here's a tip, vote for someone else or better yet don't vote (if you put in a "dummy" vote you can avoid the fine).
  11. God everyone moans about the weather soooo much! You can live life if its still raining its not the end of the world!! I still went for walks in the rain through the countryside you have to enjoy life even if it means getting wet :cute:
  12. If you have no ties then go for the adventure if you end up back home I'm sure it was all meant to be! Enjoy!
  13. Yep same thing applies you will need a set top box when you arrive here. I bought over my 3d Toshiba from the UK and it works fine. I'm actually selling my set top box/HD recorder cause I'm moving over there in March, shame your not coming sooner!
  14. He can enter on it as everyone has said but I would suggest he just gets a new one when he is there, save any trouble down the line.
  15. Proof can also be by way of photo if you have a photo dated from then with it in or the computers system should also say plus any warranty or antivirus you have registered previously. That's all proof.
  16. Sure, the sofas are actually on gumtree: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/butler/sofas/excellent-condition-2-3-seater-sofas/1036708408 And the double bed I don't have photos of yet but will pop them up later for you. Thanks
  17. Sounds like a description of the UK to me, you may want to re-consider why it is you came to Australia.
  18. I'm sure they will be but I think emigrating teaches you that nowhere is perfect and you have to accept the good and bad with where you decide to call home.

    Confused

Can you go somewhere in the UK other than London so you have a better work life balance? Maybe a smaller city that still has the things you want without the pressure. You have made the move once now so you have already had the taste and either way it will be tough, someone has to give in relationships and it sounds like your partner is willing.
  20. I didn't move here I'm born and bred in Perth but lived many other places
  21. That kind of heat is normal here in Perth, we go for stints of 38 to 40 in the summer for up to 4 days at a time. Not as common in Melbourne but know exactly how you feel, I hate the hot weather!
  22. It depends on why you left? You need to assess whether those reasons are still valid, you don't want to come back and realise why..it's too expensive.
  23. That actually hasn't been passed as yet, the government is currently reviewing it with no formal decision made. Stupid really I think 25 years is more than enough loyalty to be paid the pension.
  24. I'm born and bred here in Aus but all my extended family is in the UK, when we were younger mum would take me and my sister over for visits about once every couple of years (its so expensive back then and mum paid for it all). I'm now 28 and bidding Aus farewell so the pull of family is not to be underestimated you may well find if you do move back and your kids stay that at some point they may want to come over too.
  25. I would speak with your bank or financial planner they should be able to help with the money side of things. Good luck!
