  1. Not true. Audiology services are covered under Medicare since November 2012. Your hearing test was however probably not requested by an ENT or was done by an audiologist (or other) without a Medicare number.
  2. Unfortunately the migration agent used by our Australian subsidiary is rather bad, as they have now twice given incorrect advise for a current case. Thankfully I've not seen anyone identify themselves with that company, and think those on this Forum have been given great reviews.
  3. You're right, it was a little harsh, but the presumption that others are liable when things don't go to plan is one I really dislike.
  4. Of course you're liable, who else should pay for your lack of savings?
  5. It would worry me if that's all I had in the bank and no job lined up for either of you.....but that's just me, I prefer to have a safety buffer in the bank.
  6. Mid life crisis? That's just the term used to get away with behaviour which we think is questionable.
  7. But you barely saw anything in Oz, so that's a fairly ridiculous statement to make.
  8. Oh dear. My glass is always full, with some contents in a liquid state, and some in a gaseous state. Easy.
  9. Not really, sounded like a fast turn around as the OP had only been in Oz for 6 months. In this case, the cars must have been brought over from the UK.
  10. How many owners has it had in the last 8 years?
  11. I've travelled a lot through all parts of Australia, but would love to take the Indian Pacific from Sydney to Adelaide then drive back along the coast, and include the Great Ocean Road.
  12. My philosophy is rather different. I expect my child to behave appropriately in all situations. Therefore rather than leaving her at home to avoid her being in these situations, we go to the supermarket together and she helps me. She likes it as she enjoys helping out and sharing tasks together. It's a sense of accomplishment for her and a great help for me.
  13. I'm sorry but what did you expect? This thread shows your interest in skipping out on debt, your other thread asks if $70k / year is enough to live on as a single in Perth. I'd respect your motives a lot more if your question was 'how do I ensure I meet my debt commitments in the UK with my job offer in Australia' rather than asking how you can abandon your obligations.
  14. It depends on how much of that $70k you're putting towards the £10k debt you're leaving behind in the UK.
  15. Thanks for editing your first post to include it now.
  16. I think PIO is very supportive of others when they reach out in need, compared to other forums I see. However it's give and take and I think it's been rather one way in some cases.
  17. Your posts in August last year were already heading in this direction, 4 weeks into a job you wanted to leave. You've been nothing but abrasive since then so I'm hardly surprised that you're not getting the sympathy you're after. Having said that, the most constructive thing I can suggest is that you check the visa conditions for you and your husband, to see the impact of one of you returning to the UK. Would the other be able to stay?
  18. If you'd like people to buy the car, it may make sense to indicate what state/city the car is in.
  19. These threads often have me wondering how people get on after moving to Australia. They obviously have lived beyond their means in the UK, I would expect their issues would only be worse in Australia. Presumably doing a bunk on a debt that size means they can't return to the UK without some serious repercussions, so what do they do? Repeat the pattern in Australia? Seriously worrying.
  20. I can't really offer you anything useful, sorry, but just wanted to say I feel for you, hope you find a solution that works for you both. I would certainly look at storing your shipment until you know whether you can stay in Australia or not.
  21. Interesting that someone who purportedly worked and travelled in Australia from Cairns down to Tasmania sums up that diversity as 'the country is horrible' and then suggests there's no bitterness. Pity it didn't work out, sounds like parting ways with Australia is no loss to you, and no loss to Australia either.
  22. brilliant! Continuing that (OT) theme: one of my mates at uni had a part-time job as life guard at the South Bank 'beach'. The questions he used to get, especially from American tourists, were amazing. One asked when the next high tide would be......seriously!
  23. It's a delicate and awkward enough situation without telling others what they should or should not say. Many are unsure what to say and I feel it's not what you do or don't say, but simply that you are there, as a friend and support.
