I havent posted before but have used this site many times to get advice.
I applied for a job in Sydney CDB in January of this year, accepted the job in February with business sponsorship. I applied for my 457 visa and a defacto visa for my partner in April, 9 days later the visa's were approved.
To say we were excited was an understatement.
I left the UK last weekend to give myself a week before starting my job, to sort things out over here and get looking for somewhere to rent. Monday I sorted out Medicare Tax etc, yesterday I went to view some houses. My partner is still in the UK sorting the house / shipment of our belongings and is due to join me in a couple of weeks.
Later on in the evening I get a phone call from work. They are making redundancies here in Oz and although they do not know exactly at this point, the worst case scenario for me is that I cant start work on Monday as there will not be a job for me to go too.
What???
Can this really happen?
They have said they will pay me 4 weeks notice period and cover my costs of coming to and going back to Australia - (i should think so) but I do not know what this will cover - all of my expenses - I cant afford to be out of pocket as both me and my partner will not be working and have no income!
Our shipment is due to leave the UK next Tuesday so cancelling that is going to incur a 100% charge.
My mind is all over the place at the moment.
I have a call with them later on today to find out all my options including finding another employer so will have more details then.
Has anyone been put this situation before - any advice would be much appreciated.
