Hey all thought I would give an update following some prompts. Well what a time it has been. I went back to the UK and spent 4 weeks back there feeling sorry for myself and trying to apply for jobs. In the end we decided to come back anyway and try and get work and if we couldn't we decided on a three month holiday. Anyway very pleased to report that I managed to find work and have been working for a month in Oz now. We are staying with friends trying to find somewhere to live which is easier said then done. But above all even after all the mess we persevered and made it. Thank you all for you support, it was a hard time, not forgotten but certainly enjoying living in the country we want to be in. X

Thanks for your messages. We weren't looking to migrate on this visa we knew exactly what it was. We haven't sold the house it was due to be rented yesterday and we put a stop to it. So I have some options: my visa is ok until approx end of June so I can see if they get another client signed up if they do they will make my position available again. (I am a business analyst). No guarantees. They will either help me get contract work or another permi role all within the confines of my visa conditions. No guarantees. I can cut my losses be paid what I have incurred and find a job in England. With my partner not here for now I have decided to go back to the uk to discuss options ( cant do it over the phone it's too hard) and take it from there.

I havent posted before but have used this site many times to get advice. I applied for a job in Sydney CDB in January of this year, accepted the job in February with business sponsorship. I applied for my 457 visa and a defacto visa for my partner in April, 9 days later the visa's were approved. To say we were excited was an understatement. I left the UK last weekend to give myself a week before starting my job, to sort things out over here and get looking for somewhere to rent. Monday I sorted out Medicare Tax etc, yesterday I went to view some houses. My partner is still in the UK sorting the house / shipment of our belongings and is due to join me in a couple of weeks. Later on in the evening I get a phone call from work. They are making redundancies here in Oz and although they do not know exactly at this point, the worst case scenario for me is that I cant start work on Monday as there will not be a job for me to go too. What??? Can this really happen? They have said they will pay me 4 weeks notice period and cover my costs of coming to and going back to Australia - (i should think so) but I do not know what this will cover - all of my expenses - I cant afford to be out of pocket as both me and my partner will not be working and have no income! Our shipment is due to leave the UK next Tuesday so cancelling that is going to incur a 100% charge. My mind is all over the place at the moment. I have a call with them later on today to find out all my options including finding another employer so will have more details then. Has anyone been put this situation before - any advice would be much appreciated.
