  1. Yes I had bank holidays on top of my 20 days leave just like I get public holidays on top of my leave here in Aus.
  2. My annual leave at my last company in the UK was only a miserly 20 days. I worked 8.30am till 17.30pm plus at least an hour commute each way. Then there was the travel and overnight stays for work. So for me the work life balance in the UK was poor. I'd go to work before my son was awake and wasn't home until after he was asleep. Now I live 2km from work and work less hours with more flexibility. I don't have to travel and my employer is a lot more accommodating. I'm still only getting the 20 days annual leave but I can build up an extras day a month by working an extra 2 hours a week, which is still less hours than I worked in the UK. Most importantly I get more time with the family
  3. It is quick that. Given that you only applied a couple of weeks afterwards Tulip I'd be onto your CO asking for a visa grant before you fly on the 1st of July...or are they still saying it'll be 8-9 month grant time?
  4. Just got the email confirming my wife's partner visa subclass 100 has been granted today. Her application was received at Australia House on 2nd October 2012. That's 7 months to the day for processing. So glad it's come thru now and wife is over the moon .
  5. Hotspur1, who is your case officer? And had you sent any requests lately to see what was happening with the visa? We have been assigned a new CO just recently and they are still telling us 8 - 9 months and our application was only sent a week after yours.
  6. Congrats on those who have recently had visas granted. Hopefully they'll start granting the ones received in October very soon.
  7. We also had PS and he sent us an email on 22nd March which included contact details of his team leader. I have PM'd you with these, might be worth contact him to see if it can get sorted earlier.
  8. Think March would be more than likely given your submission date. There have been a couple people on here who submitted around the same time and have been given dates in March. Appears to be taking around 7 months at the moment, we submitted in October and have been told 8-9 months processing time. Not sure where they would have got 12 months from.
  9. We've also spoken to our CO recently and also told 8-9 months, so June or July for us.
  10. According to the website the public holiday was on Friday the 25th so you should be able to contact them tomorrow.
  11. I'm looking at potentially going earlier than my wife and son if I can get a job out there. Not ideal and don't want to be apart but if it means getting a job and having that bit of extra security out there than will do it.
  12. At what stage do you know you will be getting a visa for certain? When we applied they said don't quit jobs or book flights etc until visa has been granted. Seems lots of people on here have booked flights and arranged to move before visa was granted. I'm sure we will be fine (married a long time and have children) but not getting it granted is always in the back of the mind.
  13. We are planning to move to Australia mid 2013 and are trying to convince my wifes parents to consider to also move out in a few years time. The contributory visa is probably the best way to go but is the amount of $45,000 ish for this visa per person or the cost for both of them? Also if they came out to Australia on a holiday visa and then applied for an Aged Parent Visa (subclass 804) it looks like they could remain in Australia on a bridging visa until such time it was processed. Has anyone had experience of this?
  14. We are just completing the application form for my wife's spouse visa. Is our son considered to be part of this application even though we are in the process of getting him Australian citizenship by decent and will then get him an Australian passport?
  15. Hi All, I'd be interested to get an update from some of you who have moved to Australia and your experiences in finding work in health and safety. I have a NEBOSH General Certificate and Fire Certificate and have been involved with health and safety in the UK for last 12 months, also doing quality management and some environmental management. Our plan is to move to Brisbane in about 12 months time (no visa restrictions or owt as I'm an Australian passport holder). Would it be worth doing a Certificate IV in OHS prior to moving out? Any advice from anyone who has been down this route would be much appreciated.
