  1. Childcare is where we have really struggled. The local nurseries open at the time I needed to be at work and there was a long waiting list for places anyway. If it was a choice between Perth or going home i'd say try Perth but personally I rue the day I choose Perth over Sydney.
  2. PomPrincesses

    Work or Dole

I'd work for myself at home given the absolute choice but then i wouldn't be earning just $20,000 for very long.
  3. Well I know more than you did evidently but thanks for your input into the thread it's been invaluable.
  4. That looks like the calculator we used, thanks
  5. Did you pay the £900 by credit card ?
  6. Well according to the centrelink calculator we would be entitled to 50% rebate so I'll take that to be correct unless told otherwise. At this rate the child will be in school before we get PR anyway so it'll be irrelevant.
  7. Approved childcare can also be registered in home care ie nanny and that's not my understanding I was told that the tax rebate is not means tested, although we were also told this would take four months so how accurate that is I don't know.
  8. My childcare bill is higher than our rent, that would be halved with PR
  9. Yes that pyramid scheme ended so well in Ireland it's definitely a grand idea everyone should get into BTL
  10. At the end of the day the young woman has a job, she is bringing up her child and unless proven otherwise will do as good a job if not better than plonking it in childcare (I say that as somebody who has used nursery's/nanny's/childminders etc). The young man with two able arms and legs is really the one that wants a kick up the arse but what can you do with them if there aren't the jobs around. My parents live in an area where the biggest employer is the NEC and the airport. In the JC you'll see ad after ad for min wage jobs all requiring the flexibility to start at 5am and therefore a car is required. So that's the end of that as the buses don't start running until 6am.
  11. You can't go wrong with John Hughes in victoria park
  12. Newspaper reporter with large property portfolio says house prices to climb ?
  13. Divide and conquer, the politicans don't need to do a thing do they, sit back and watch the peasants fight amongst themselves whilst they are busy robbing you blind under your nose.
  14. Go into the JC looking like you might actually get a job and you can expect to be treated to a three hour interrogation and to be humiliated beyond your wildest expectations. If we'd stayed I was going to buy DH a tracksuit to wear especially for signing on days and a stick on tattoo for his forehead.
  15. I haven't bought any none essential clothes in Australia yet, shoes nearly caused me to pass out last week and today $95 for a school dress :chatterbox: means i'll be getting everything sent over postage fre from M&S and Boden. Best of both worlds
  16. I cannot get angry about this when politicians stole, actually committed theft and didn't go to prison or even a police station in most cases.
  17. And the banks needed to follow their own due diligence procedures but they had the pound signs flashing in their eyes and couldn't see the bleeding obvious in front of them. The banks love suckers, and will pay for other peoples mistakes but you will whether they or anyone else goes bankrupt or not.
  18. You'll be able to get a rental withut a job if you have 6 months to put down in advance, otherwise i can't see it myself
  19. What's your definition of quality of life exactly ? See if you can find Stewart Lee's Quality of life sketch on you tube, sums it up perfectly !
  20. It hasn't been done yet, we cannot wait 12 months we'd have to go home before then there's just no way. We'd been told 4 months for WA
  21. We are in Australia. So we have to wait for them to request medicals ?
  22. We didn't bring the sofa because ours was about 4 years old, we did pay about £600 for something that's £400 in the UK but i'm sure it would have cost more than £200 to ship it and it's older if that makes sense. I brought, family photo's, chests of drawers that were in really good condition, under 3 years old, prams if you need them or might do, clothes, toys, tables, chairs. The only things I really threw out were things I would have naturally replaced over the next 12 months anyway.
  23. My husbands employer is sponsoring us for PR but they are being quite slow about it for one reason or another and being a complete control freak I need to "do" something. So I have sent off the police checks, can we get on with the health checks too ? Is there anything else I could be doing to help the process along ? Many thanks PP
  24. In your situation you should go bankrupt and ask somebody to give you $5,000 for flights throw your clothes in a suitcase and never look back. You'd be better off paying your OH parent's whatever their house is worth in the cash that you're saving by not paying the banks - that debt will never end with compounded interest, at least there is a final amount with the parents house.
